Did you know that Mario Party is currently second on the most rented games list? ------------------ Table of Contents ------------------ 1) Updates 2) Intro 3) Controls 4) The Basics 5) FAQ 6) Characters 7) Items 8) Hints and Tips 9) Boards 10) Credits ------------------ --------------- 1) Updates --------------- 7/15/99 (Version 1.0) - FAQ Release - All sections added. - Guide is complete. - Will be updated again, however. --------------- 2) Intro --------------- Mario Party is one hell of a game; probably one of the best so far for the N64. It's a party game, yet the fun board game idea and mini games make it an adventure as well. It supports multiplayer for up to four players; in fact, I recommend playing with some friends. Here is the game's story taken directly from the instruction manual: Mario looked around and smiled. Throwing a party had been an excellent idea. It had been a long time since they had all gotten together. All his friends were there: Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi - even Wario and Donkey Kong. They laughed and talked about all the adventures they had shared together in the past. But what was there to do now? The conversation turned to their dreams for the future. Amazingly, they all envisioned the same thing... To become a Super star upon whom everyone in the world could rely. Then Wario asked, "Which one of us is the biggest Super star?" "I am! It's me!" they all shouted. The gang couldn't come to an agreement because they each wanted to be the best. They needed to prove once and for all who truly was number one. Suddenly, Toad had an idea. "Isn't a Super star someone who helps others when they're in trouble?" Everyone realized he was right. Then Toad told them about a Warp Pipe in Mushroom Village that could take you anywhere you wanted to go. Surely there were people on the other side of that Pipe who needed their help. They all ran as fast as they could to Mushroom Village and jumped into the Warp Pipe. But none of them knew what exciting adventures awaited them on the other side... --------------- 3) Controls --------------- The controls are very basic in the game and there's not a lot you can say about them...... A - Jumps when rolling dice, selects options for you when beginning the game, and is used in some Mini Games. B - Used in some Mini Games. Analog Stick - Also selects options for you and is used in many Mini Games. For now, that's all you need to know about the controls. --------------- 4) Basics --------------- Beginning The Game When you begin the game, you see a small land with Toad sitting there and you are asked to choose your destination. Go right down the warp pipe to begin the board game (which is explained in the rest of this FAQ). Here are the other options: - Mushroom Shop: You buy things here using the coins that you've gained in the previous games that you have played. - Mushroom Bank: This is where you can deposit the things that you've bought from the mushroom shop, as well as learn how many stars and coins you've earned from previous games. - Option House: Obviously, this is where you can set a few of your options. You can do things such as changing the type of music you're going to hear and fool around with game data. - Mini Game House: This is where you play any mini games you have bought as well as buy mini games that you have already played. - The Raft: This leads you to Mini Game Island, the 1-player mode in the game. - Warp Pipe: Like said before, go in here to begin your four player game of Mario Party. Mario Party Game Beginning After going down the warp pipe, you are asked to set your options for the up-coming game...... Character Choosing You then select which character you are going to be out of six possible characters (see section #6). If you are playing by yourself, the other 3 players will be filled by the computer. Anytime there are not 4 human players, the other positions are filled by computers but you select their characters. Number of Turns When selecting your options before the game, you are asked how many turns you will do. You are given the option of twenty for light play, thirty-five for standard play, and fifty for heavy play. A turn is when all four of the players have each rolled. Fifty turns will take hours, believe me. I recommend twenty for a nice little game or thirty-five if you plan on playing for awhile. Rolling The Dice There's no actual dice in the game; instead, there is a spinning block above your head when selecting which place you will go in and to roll. The spinning block has numbers 1-10 on it, and when you press the A Button, your player will jump in the air and stop the block from moving. The number that you hit when you jumped appears and that's what you get. You can't see the numbers when the block is spinning or time your jump. It's all luck. --------------- 5) FAQ --------------- Q: What's considered a turn? A: When selecting your options before the game, you are asked how many turns you will do. You are given the option of twenty for light play, thirty-five for standard play, and fifty for heavy play. A turn is when all four of the players have each rolled. They are all rated in difficulty with a star (*). Here are the boards and the things you should know about them: #1 DK's Jungle Adventure Difficulty: * This is one of the easiest boards in the game. It's very normal as it holds a few multiple paths where you will have to choose a few times. There are also thwomps on the board, which are big, huge enemies made out of stone. If you want to get past them, the charge is ten coins. The object of this board is to collect the golden bananas at the end of the course. #2 Mario's Rainbow Castle Difficulty: * This is the easiest board in the game. There are no objects blocking your way, and there is almost no strategy needed. All you have to do is have 20 coins when you meet Toad at the end of the board. Then you cash in the coins for a star. It's the easiest board to get coins on. #3 Peach's Birthday Cake Difficulty: ** Peach's Birthday Cake is fairly difficult with one main hazard on it. You may have to face a part of the board where you are doomed; you meet Bowser. You'll find a Goomba in front of a loop. He tells you that you must buy a seed for 10 coins. You then choose out of 4 seeds. 1 seed is bad and it will lead you to the path of Bowser. The other 3 seeds are good and allow you to get to Toad via the main path. You must have at least 30 coins when you meet the Goomba! The Bowser path is brutal, believe me. #4 Yoshi's Tropical Island Difficulty: ** Yoshi's Tropical Island is actually made up of two islands connected with bridges. The bridges on the course are guarded by Thwomps who let you pass if you pay them. If you are the first to pass, you may determine how much it will cost to get by for the rest of the game. Every time another character comes to the Thwomp, the price is raised by one coin. #5 Wario's Battle Canyon Difficulty: ** This board is based on 5 islands with a bob-omb war occuring at the same time. On each island there is a bob-omb firing a cannon. If you reach the bob-omb on your island, they will shoot you to another one of the islands. This is what the islands look like on an overhead view: * * * * * #6 Luigi's Engine Room Difficulty: *** Luigi's Engine Room is huge and is full of loops, and turns. You will have to learn the concept of the doors for this board. After each turn, some doors go up, and some go down. If you come to a closed door you cannot pass. There is also a guy on the board that will open a door for you, but it burns a hole in your pocket (it costs 20 coins). #7 Bowser's Magma Mountain Difficulty: *** Being that this is Bowser's level, it is extremely difficult and will really annoy you. It is a long board, and everytime you want to take a shortcut, you must win 2 games in order to keep all of your coins. Also, if you land on a Bowser space, all other spaces on the board will be red for 2 turns. #8 Eternal Star Difficulty: *** This is the hardest board in the game without a doubt. Once again, it is run by Bowser, and he has gotten rid of Toad! In order to get a star, you must put 20 coins on the line and play one of Bowser's buddies in a Mini Game. Board Spaces Here is what happens when you land on the following board spaces: - Blue Space: Gain 3 Coins - Red Space: Lose 3 Coins - Bowser Space: Toad/Bowser Switch Places - Question Mark Space: Different things depending on the board. - Blue Exclamation Point Space: 1-Player Mini Game - Red Bowser Space: A Bowser Mini Game - Blue Mushroom: Options such as poison yourself and move roll again. After each turn (each player has rolled once) a mini game is played. They could be 2 on 2, or 1 on 3, depending on where you're standing. If you're on a blue space but the others are on a red space, it's the three of them versus the two of you. --------------- 10) Credits --------------- Nintendo (http://www.cheatcc.com) .....
