There are exceptions to this rule, however, such as Karla who gains new spells from different bodies, but keeps the ones she had previously. Spells cost MP to cast. They engage in battle, striking with all their strength and casting their most powerful spells, but nothing has any effect. Suddenly, their enemy casts a powerful spell in return, which hits a girl in the group. She falls over, injured. The knight looks into his soul. The only way to win is to use the Demon Sword, Soul Crusher. There is no other option. He draws the weapon and strikes the fiend.. Then everything is dark.. Until Karla awakens.. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [SCENARIO I] Part I - The Awakening ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Green Thief (40 LP - 50 Exp - 26 Gold) Red Thief (30 LP - 40 Exp - 15 Gold) Wolf (35 LP - 60 Exp - 9 Gold) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Karla will wake up in the basement of some house. After some text, walk up the stairs to the east. Exit the door to the south for some more text. Sleep in the bed to save. Exit to the south again and head down the staircase. The door under the stairs won’t open, so head south once more and exit the building. Head south to find a river and a freaked out thief. He’ll start to question Karla, then fight her. Don’t worry if he kills Karla in one hit, because the circlet posseses him and Karla will take over his body. Karla will automatically walk down to the ocean and say a few lines. Equip the new body, then head west and onto the map screen. To the south, there's a large face carved into a mountainside, but that spot has no importance yet. Head northwest to the empty house. Enter, and Karla will walk up to and examine the bookcase in the back. A robed person will enter and surprise Karla. He will then attack Karla with one of his spells and kill her. As before, Karla's circlet will possess his body, which is already level 20 and has the ability to cast a large assortment of spells. Head back to the mansion you started at and open the locked door. Open the chest. Then leave the mansion and head back to the town. Enter the dock house just up and to the right of the city, and the dwarf that is usually guarding his boat will be in his house. Walk up to the boat, and Karla will steal it as the dwarf runs out and yells at her. On the ocean, a huge monster will surface and Karla will freak out. It will then attack: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sea monster (600 LP - 10000 Exp - 1200 Gold) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the fight, Karla will dock at a port identical to the one she left. Talk to the dwarf in the hut to rest and save, then venture forth onto the new continent. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [SCENARIO I] Part II - Revelations ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Green Ogre (200 LP - 1800 Exp - 261 Gold) Special: Heal 10 LP randomly Brown Bandit (140 LP - 680 Exp - 85 Gold) Grey Mage (120 LP - 950 Exp - 270 Gold) Manticore (850 LP - 2900 Exp - 112 Gold) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the path to the west, but beware of the tougher enemies. Along the way, there is another mountain-carved face identical to the one on the last island. Also on the way is a wooden gate guarded by two knights that cannot be passed. Continue on southwest until to a city. Enter the house up the stairs from the city entrance, then talk to the man in the top right. He will attack Karla and kill her, thus leaving himself open for possessing. He’s a much stronger physical attacker than Karla's last mage body, with a level of 38. Karla will still have all the spells of her mage form. Enter the house in the top left to find a horde of dwarves, who will flee through the opposite door when they see Karla. There’s a temple in the top left corner of town. In the back room is a priest that Karla can possess. That body adds many more powerful spells to Karla's arsenal. The house with two doors in the southwest of town also has a body, this one being a thief who can hit enemies from anywhere on the battle board. Going into the basement of the bottom left house will meet Karla up with an elf girl named Rioso. She will begin to attack Karla, but another elf named Zuoso will stop her. Rioso will look at Karla and freak out. Both elves will kneel, then Karla will begin to black out. After a lot more dialogue, Zuoso will leave and Rioso will join the party. After Rioso joins, go up the stairs and exit the house. Leave the town and head east along the path to a lake, then head southwest until reaching a cave in the mountain range. Enter the cave. An inn is found right outside the caverns, so heal up and save. After that, head up all the stairs and enter the cave behind the dwarf. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Light Ghost (250 LP - 2350 Exp - 198 Gold) Special: Defense, Lightning Dark Ghost (500 LP - 1960 Exp - 136 Gold) Special: Defense, Lightning, FireBug Basilisk (400 LP - 3610 Exp - 144 Gold) Special: Long range, Pertify Blob (600 LP - 1690 Exp - 218 Gold) Special: Defense, Poison Manticore (850 LP - 2900 Exp - 112 Gold) _______________________________________________________________________________ Items: Heal Armor, ?, ?, ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Use Karla's Map skill to navigate the dungeon, and her Exit ability to return to the Inn outside if healing is needed. If you attempt to grab the chest around the corner from the entrance, the floor will give way and you'll drop to a lower floor. Enter the door way straight down-left from where you fall to be teleported back up floor. There's a treasure trove of five chests in the top-left room in the basement. Once you reach the basement, follow the bottom-right curve around to the top-left and enter the gold doors. From there, go up the stairs until you exit the dungeon and return to the overworld. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [SCENARIO I] Part III - Rescue ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Basilisk (400 LP - 3610 Exp - 144 Gold) Special: Long range, Pertify Small Green Dragon (1000 LP - 4890 Exp - 332 Gold) Special: Poison ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leaving that simple dungeon behind, head northwest to the tower in the desert, which is a town. Rest and save at the inn, then enter the house with the two large golems outside to meet a mage who will talk a lot, then cast a spell on Karla which causes her to black out repeatedly. After more dialogue, the mage will bring Karla over to his crystal ball. A short scene will follow in which Zuoso gets fried by an armored demon. Karla and Rioso exchange some words, then leave. Karla will also have gained around 20 level-ups after the mage encounter. Return to the first dungeon and go through it again. Rest and save at the inn, then leave. The weaker enemies that used to inhabit this area have become much stronger, so beware. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Spear Gargoyle (350 LP - 5580 Exp - 210 Gold) Dark Ogre (700 LP - ? Exp - ? Gold) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Head north to the path with the lake, then northeast to another dungeon. This one doesn't have an Inn outside, so be sure to heal and save beforehand. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Spear Gargoyle (350 LP - 5580 Exp - 210 Gold) Goat Gargoyle (950 LP - 9500 Exp - 290 Gold) Special: Blind, FireBug ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This dungeon is slightly more difficult than the last one, and makes use of teleporters to jump from one place to another. Get all the chests, then enter far right teleporter and enter the door near there. examine the golems and Karla and Rioso will say some things. examine the one beside the one in the top-left to take/destroy it. exit the room, step on the teleporter and return to the main room. now go up to the glowing door and examine it to destroy it, then step on the teleporter behind it. follow the path around and enter the door. Karla and Rioso will approach the next door, and Karla will cast a spell that awakens the two gargoyles there. A fight will start against two Spear Gargoyles, then the path will be open to the next hallway. Proceed there. The next hallway leads to a barred-off prison room with Zuoso in shackles. Rioso will freak upon seeing her, then smash the door down and free her. Zuoso sees that Karla's host body is dying and decides to sacrifice herself. Zuoso will attack Karla, killing her and getting possesed by the circlet. All of Karla's abilities will be given to Zuoso, along with the spells the elf already had. Don't forget to equip before proceeding to the next room. Enter the gold door to meet the demon that attacked Zuoso in the crystal ball vision. It summons a pair of Goat Gargoyles and attacks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Bull Demon (5900 LP - 31500 Exp - 2589 Gold) Special: Frost, FireBug Goat Gargoyle (950 LP - 9500 Exp - 290 Gold) Special: Blind, FireBug ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A long battle, but Bull Demon can be beaten by taking out his two Goat Gargoyles first, then putting Rioso and Karla on either side of it and attacking. If the Demon casts any spells, it will hit itself as well. When the Demon falls, Karla and Rioso will talk a bit, then the scene changes to Karla (still with Zuoso's body) standing in the basement room that the game started in, as a bunch of text scrolls past. The first scenario with Karla ends there. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [SCENARIO II] Part I - Entrance ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Light Orc (250 LP - 632 Exp - 97 Gold) Dark Orc (100 LP - ? Exp - ? Gold) Orc Shaman (400 LP - 3144 Exp - 738 Gold) Special: Flame Priest (300 LP - 2300 Exp - 800 Gold) Special: Blind, Cure, FireBug, Lightning Priest Warrior (300 LP - 2000 Exp - 632 Gold) Special: Cure Mage (300 LP - ? Exp - ? Gold) Special: Lightning Knight (500 LP - ? Exp - ? Gold) Bandit (300 LP - ? Exp - ? Gold) Special: Long range Treant (750 LP - 2600 Exp - 33 Gold) Manticore (850 LP - 2900 Exp - 112 Gold) Dark Elf (400 LP - 3000 Exp - 86 Gold) Special: Silence, Lit. Bolt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After Karla's scenario ends, the scene will change to a port town and more text will scroll by. Then the scene will change to a boat and a man named Beld will step off and speak. After that, take control of Beld and explore the town. (*NOTE: Beld is a tough character to keep alive. He doesn't regain LP from Inns, so be sure to stock up on healing potions. He does regain all his LP whenever the enemies' King is killed in battle, but be careful when walking because Beld loses 5 LP every few steps on the map. It's like he's poisoned, but can't be cured. This is all due to his evil sword and armor, which cannot be removed.) Go the the Inn and speak with Ashizue, then leave the Inn and go to the bottom-left house. Beld will enter and speak to the mage inside, then draw his sword. The mage will cast some shield spell and then die. Beld is surrounded by energy for a moment, then leaves. Now is the time to explore the island. Beld cannot enter the temple to the east for now. To the east is a field that goes into a close screen when entered, but is empty and can be left simply by moving off either the left or right side. There's yet another Face Mountain to the far east, but no use yet. Return to town after some exploring, and several people will flee past Beld in a panic. An orc will run forward and Beld will draw his sword for battle. Defeat the orc for an easy LP refill. Beld will run forward into town past many frantic citizens and come across another orc. Another easy battle. After this, Ashizue from the Inn will approach Beld and talk to him. They run towards the Inn together and see a trio of orcs, one of them a shaman. They draw their swords and attack. This battle is just as easy as the past two orc encounters, and now Ashizue will join the party. His level is lower than Beld's, so be sure to equip him well. With Ashizue in the party, Beld can now enter the temple to the east. Enter, then go into the door on the right. Beld will speak with the priest inside, and one of the acolytes will leave. A priest named Unisu will take his place, say a few words to Beld, then join the party. His many cure spells make him a great asset to the group. Leave the temple and head east to where the Face Mountain was to see that it is now a cave. Enter to find another dungeon. Since Karla's not around with her Map spell, navigating this dungeon is more trial-and-error than the last. Go up-right and try to open the door at the fork in the road. It's locked, so head up-left, down-left, up-left, up-right, then up-left and enter the door. Walk through the room and exit to the left. Continue to the right along the edge of the dungeon. Don't enter the door to the bottom-left or it will lock the party out at the dungeon's entrance. Instead, continue up-right to exit the dungeon and emerge into a field, as a frightened elf girl runs away. The party will walk forward and come face to face with three dark elves, the leader named Ruzebu and two others, one female and one male. A battle ensues. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Ruzebu - 800 LP Special: Lit. Bolt Female Dark Elf - 750 LP Male Dark Elf - 850 (16800 Exp - 473 Gold) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the battle, another dark elf will run onto the field, then a dragon will follow and kill her with its flame breath. The male dark elf from the previous battle, Sakirusu, will yell something as the other female dark elf attacks the dragon and dies. Beld and his party attack. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Enemies] Green Dragon (1100 LP - 10890 Exp - 139 Gold) Special: Poison ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ruzebu rejoices that the dragon is defeated, and Sakirusu joins the party. (to be continued...) _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ (IX) [Frequently Asked Questions] - What is 'Record of Lodoss War'? Record of Lodoss War is the Japanese equivalant of Dungeons & Dragons in America. It was translated into an anime movie and cartoon series, and this game is based upon that movie. I consider Record of Lodoss War the finest anime in existence. - Why does all the text make no sense? Because it's in Japanese. Record of Lodoss War is a Japanese game and was never ported to the American Super Nintendo system. - So how do I play it? Learn Japanese. Or wander aimlessly without knowing any of the story. - Can I play this game on my American Super Nintendo system? No, and yes. The cartridge will work in a U.S. system, but there are two plastic tabs inside the system that prevent imported game from fitting in properly. It is possible to remove them with pliers, but doing so voids your system's warrenty. Do so at your own risk. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ (X) [Acknowledgments] -CJayC, the tireless owner of GameFAQs.com _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Copyright 2000
