M O D E S O F P L A Y ====================================================================== ------------------------------- 2.1 - Free Ride ------------------------------- Manual Description: These sloped courses feature a variety of obstacles and numerous checkpoints, where extra time can be earned by performing tricks. Make sure your boarder makes it to the goal within the allotted time, or you're a loser! ------------------------------- 2.2 - Super Pipe ------------------------------- Manual Description: Bust multiple tricks and catch tons of air in this gnarly halfpipe mode. Make sure your boarder makes it to the finish line at the end of the course within the allotted time and then watch as the total performance results are displayed. In addition to the points acquired along the way, the overall evaluation also includes the content and the form of the tricks performed. ------------------------------- 2.3 - Match Race ------------------------------- ----------------- 2.3.1 - Battle ----------------- Manual Description: Compete against your favorite rival using this novel racing mode where trick expertise is key. By busting tricks you can earn attacking power or extra thrust, both of which can have more effect on the race outcome than mere speed. ---- 2.3.1.1 - Line Versus ---- Manual Description: A completely new and unique aspect to this mode is the ability to win a match by using the split-screen to your advantage. Execute tricks toeffect a "line attack" which will move the dividing line of the split screen, shrinking your opponents screen, making their race much harder. If done enough times, you can even shut them completely out, and win. ---- 2.3.1.2 - Trick Boost ---- Manual Description: In this battle mode, use the Guard Button to give your boarder a jet-boost that will propel them at super high velocity. However, activating the speed boost requires "boost power points" which can only be received by earning trick points at the trick areas. ----------------- 2.3.2 - Free Race ----------------- Manual Description: This mode is for those who prefer a pure and unadulterated race. Select whether you want to compete in time, trick, or total. You can even set a handicap, setting the handicap will give the lagging boarder a bit of extra speed. ====================================================================== ====================================================================== 3. C O U R S E S ====================================================================== ------------------------------- 6.1 FREE RIDE ------------------------------- ----------------- 6.1.1 - Mountain Review ----------------- Manual Description: Bone up on your skills with this slope-style practice level course. Be sure to mind the sheep! Jp's Description: A run down a slope which changes scenery alot. A quick run through an ordinary mountain town turns into a very ancient looking town after a run-by with a train. And it ends with a good set-up for a big jump passing by a highway, overlooking a moderate-sized city, after a small run through a cave. Trick Areas: 5 Shortcuts: -None really, multiple paths, no secrets... Other Things of Interest: - Watch for the helicopter that gets smashed early on in the stage. - The changing scenery is also noteworthy. - Hitting sheep across the mountain is kinda fun... - "You can land on the spectator bridge near the train trestle." - from Githyanki79 ----------------- 6.1.2 - Emerald Forest ----------------- Manual Description: Complete Course 1 to ride this tree covered run. Avoid the gullies and don't hurt the trees! Jp's Description: They like to change the situation of these runs a lot, apparently. A small cross on a wooden bridge, leads through a small cave into a beautiful forest, then another cave run leads to a cliff-run with some ruins dotting the edges. You then go through an ancient temple of some sorts, which while beautiful, seems kind of unrealistic(And like a Misty 2520 isn't?). Trick Areas: 5 Shortcuts: - The 4th Trick Area is somewhat hidden. When you first enter the temple, after the 3rd Trick area, the path splits, take the path to the right, and it will lead to the 4th Trick Area. - There are "Some hops you can take from ramp to ramp within the cathedral" - from Joe Ses Other Things of Interest: - Watch out for the falling pillars right before you enter the temple. Either ride up on the left, or hold the block button to get through. ----------------- 6.1.3 - Urban Striker ----------------- Manual Description: Place in the top 3 for Course 2 to hit the big bad city in a snowstorm. Don't broadslide the buildings! Jp's Description: A long run amongst a bunch of buildings, turns into a quick run through a factory. Trick Areas: 4 Shortcuts: - "Once you are about halfway through the city it seems that you can hit some flat rooftops on the right and take a different route down." - from Joe Ses - "When you first land [in the Factory], stay right and go through the doorway at the top of the incline, jump at the end of the catwalk to land below and cut outmost of the pipe stuff. Then stay right again and jumpas the path drops off two times to land right at the trick area jump off..." - from Joe Ses - "Where the 2 cranes are swinging, go to the right, along the wall, there is an opening, make 1 jump and it takes you to the last trick area." - from Githyanki79 - "After the entrance to the play ground, there is a small alleyway. Need to make 2 90 degree turns, but brings you to the trick area a little faster." - from Githyanki79 Other Things of Interest: - "If you jump onto the square below the clock tower, you will hear loud bells start ringing(if you don't have it on perma mute to silence that annoying guy) and they seem to keep ringing until you get far enough away." - from Joe Ses ----------------- 6.1.4 - Cave Slider ----------------- Manual Description: Place in the top 3 for Course 3 to go underground on this historical trek. Watch out for them bones! Jp's Description: An old, deserted city leads into a rather large cave, which leads out onto an apparent glacier, and ends in front of a factory. I hate this level... Tricks Areas: 6 Shortcuts: - The 3rd checkpoint is somewhat hidden. After the 2nd Trick Area, instead of overshooting the road and boarding alongside it, follow it, and you will come to it as the road ends. - The 4th checkpoint is often missed, as well. In the cave, once you pass the waterfall, stay on the top level of rock, and you will come to it. - "The best way to negotiate the entrance to the caves is to jump just to the left of the first big green stalagmite and land as far downhill as possible, without going too far to the left and landing in the dark brown death zone." - from Joe Ses - "Near the end of the glacier, you can jump just to the right of 3 yellow signs across a chasm and land on the path below." - from Joe Ses Other Things of Interest: - "At the end, it is possible not to fall down and break the ice.... if you jump at good angle to the side, you will land on top of the ice and go to the finish line that is viewed at the check point." - from Githyanki79 - You NEED the 3rd and 4th checkpoints to get through this level with good scores. They are good areas to pull of Misty 360's and the sort. ----------------- 6.1.5 - Dancing Devils ----------------- Manual Description: Place in the top 3 for TOTAL in Course 4 to board this radical track with some freaky hairpin turns! Jp's Description: And you thought Cave Striker was bad? this one will take you to the edge of multiple cliffs, throw boulders on you, throw you into a cave with many chances to fall, and send a train barreling after you. Trick Areas: 6 Shortcuts: - The 2nd Trick Area is somewhat hidden. After that first boulder takes you out, stay on top, and make all the jumps, and, you'll reach it. - It's almost impossible to beat this course without outrunning the train. It is possible, but, pretty hard. - "At the first set of arrows, jump across the gorge and there is a ledge that has shallower turns and takes you to the fencing just before the falling boulders." - from Githyanki79 Other Things of Interest: - umm... ----------------- 6.1.6 - Ending Course ----------------- *No Manual Description. Jp's Description: The practice course from Cool Boarders 2, an interesting way to roll the credits. Trick Areas: 19 Shortcuts: - No shortcuts, just, a straight downhill run with 19 jumps. Other Things of Interest: - It's the credits, it's cool, enjoy it! ----------------- 6.1.7 - Secret Force ----------------- *No Manual Description Jp's Description: The SECRET level! Take a ride through Area 51! I'm getting sick of this alien stuff in boarding/skating games... Trick Areas: 6 Shortcuts: - When the tunnel levels out, look for the signs on the cieling, pointing right, GO RIGHT, or else you will fall... badly. - Right after the underwater tunnel ends, and the tunnel splits up, stay to the left, it's the shortest direct way out. Other Things of Interest: - The plane crash at the beginning is cool, watch out for the jeep that comes racing out of the tunnel after the crash, though. - When you reach the end, look at all the little flying saucers darting around, kinda cool, eh? ------------------------------- 6.2 - SUPER PIPE ------------------------------- ----------------- 6.2.1 - Super Pipe ----------------- Manual Description: Compared with out previous halfpipes, this baby features a section with an oversized lip that'll gurantee you'll catch some major air. Jp's Description: Just a halfpipe, a large one, with an oversized lip, yes, but, still a halfpipe. ----------------- 6.2.2 - Extra Super Pipe ----------------- Manual Description: The design for this truly intense course was based on an Amusement Park. Conquer this bad boy, and you'll be ready for anything! However, to earn the right to ride this course, you'll have to place in the top three rankings for the Super Pipe. Good Luck! Jp's Description: A WICKED halfpipe, massively long, lots of turns, and twists, and variations. It will grow in height, drop down, just stop for a short gap. This one is impressive, and tough to beat... ====================================================================== ====================================================================== 7. S E C R E T S ====================================================================== ------------------------------- 8.1 - Characters ------------------------------- -There are 2 secret characters: The Snowman, and Gray the Alien. -You get the Snowman for beating the high score(i'm not sure if it's time, trick, total, or all) in the ending course. -You get Gray for just beating the Secret Force track. -Unfortunately in the domestic version, there is no third secret character, he is replaced with Jimmy(gee, aren't we lucky?). -In Cool Boarders Burrrn(Japan version), instead of Jimmy, there's a third secret character, Tightman. You get Tightman for beating the total score in the Secret Force track. ------------------------------- 8.2 - Costumes ------------------------------- -Every standard character has a third costume. -Standard characters means Axel, Tia, Ronnie, Monica, DJ Ken, Bob, and yes, Jimmy. -Snowman and Gray do NOT have third costumes. -To get a person's 3rd costume, you have to beat 5 levels in a row with them. Any 5 levels(Starting at level 1), You have to use the same board the whole time, and you can't quit or change. ------------------------------- 8.3 - Courses ------------------------------- -Only the one I know of, The Secret Force. -Get this by beating all of one of the score-types(trick/time/total) in the 5 main tracks. ------------------------------- 8.4 - Boards ------------------------------- -Each standard board has a second graphical version. I'm not sure how to get them, though, just, go through the courses, and beat some records, you'll get 'em. -And there are the Special boards, which you get for beating all the high scores in a score-type. Eg, to get the ALS, you'd have to beat all of the Time records for the Freeride tracks. -And the super-secret uber-board you get for beating the high score in everything, everywhere. -Jimmy has hidden boards, as well. Me and PufShePuf both got them in various ways, I got them for beating various tracks in a certain amount of time. Puf got them that way, and by beating the records in other courses. Jimmy does NOT have second graphical versions of his boards, and he does NOT have any uber-boards. ====================================================================== ====================================================================== 9.
