Pokemon Snap Faq V1.0 (Game should be released June 28/99) June 04,1999 Daniel (Pokegod) Engel wengel@netcom.ca ICQ: 9722762 INTRODUCTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You play as Todd, a gifted photographer in a vehicle that travels through each stage of Pokemon Island. Each stage is actually a different area of the island. (Eg: A beach, a tunnel, a volcano, etc.) You do not have complete freedom of movement, the vehicle (known as the Zero-One) has a path that it follows every time you play a stage. In some levels it is on a rail, in others it floats down river on pontoons, even using jet boosters in one stage to fly about. Every time you play a stage you get a fresh roll of film that has room for a maximum of 60 pictures. PICTURES Your basic goal in the game is to get the best possible picture of each pokemon. You start out the game with only a camera, but you will be given other items to use as you progress further. Different pokemon are located in different areas (stages), so you must open up new stages by either getting a high enough score from Dr. Oak, based upon the pictures that you have taken. Or by hitting a switch in the level, usually though these switches cannot be hit by you, usually you must get a pokemon to hit it for you by using some of the extra items. SCORING Once you have gone through a stage and taken all the pictures that you wanted. (60 or less) You can then go see Dr. Oak and get them graded. He grades based on the following criteria: Size-How close the pokemon is in the picture? Position-Is the PKMN centered, or off to the side, or even facing the camera? Friends-Are there more than one PKMN in the picture? Pose-Is the PKMN just sitting there? Get extra points if the PKMN is displaying some sort of unusual reaction, or interacting with other PKMN. *You also get points when you get a picture of a PKMN that you haven't documented yet.* ALBUMS You can go see Dr. Oak and give him one picture per species of PKMN. He will take these pictures and put them in an album. (Eg: Get your best picture of Pikachu graded, and it will go into his album for the Pikachu section) Now there is also a gallery where you can keep any pictures that you like. *I do not know how many pictures the gallery can hold as of this date.* EXTRA ITEMS These extra items will help you in your PKMN journey: Apples-You can throw these and get a picture of a PKMN eating. You could also use these to lure a PKMN to another PKMN or an object. (Eg: try throwing an apple between two PKMN and see if they fight for a great picture.) Pester balls-Use these to annoy, distract, or wake up PKMN. These also can be thrown in certain locations on the landscape to cause certain things to occur. (Eg: In the volcano stage try throwing a pester ball into one of the many craters and see what happens...) Flute-Use this to get a reaction out of a PKMN. Some may like the noise and dance, or even use special moves. Others may not, and might try attacking things. Speed up-I do not yet know the real name of this item, but once found it can be used to make the Zero-One travel faster. *I am not completely sure about how these extra items are obtained, but I think that you get most of them from Dr. Oak when you complete certain stages.* EXTRA STUFF/HINTS Now what's the point of taking all these pictures if you have nothing to remember them by? Well Nintendo has teamed up with Blockbuster Video to help players of Pokemon Snap get more out of the game. What I mean is that you can print out your pictures IN COLOUR at your local Blockbuster Video store. What you do is take your game pak to the store, and purchase a collectable Pokemon Snap smart card at the counter. (There are 5 of them and they feature Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, and Jigglypuff) Once you have purchased your smart card, you plug your game pak and the smart card into the display at the store. Now you are ready to choose your pictures. You pick 4 pictures that you want printed out, these can be taken either from Dr. Oak's album, or your gallery. Once you have your 4 pictures chosen you print them out. You get a sheet of 16 stickers, that is 4 copies of each picture. Now you just have to decide what to do with them. Now according to Nintendo Power Magazine, the price to print out these 16 stickers is 3 dollars. Though that is the US price, it will obviously be higher in Canada. Also I don't know how much the smart card costs right now. Anyway I will definitely try this interesting feature at least once, and add to this FAQ my opinion of it. Last, but not least are a few tips. Basically try to get a feel for each level, and the locations of the PKMN. After all you can replay a course an infinite number of times, and then you can get as many pictures as you want of the PKMN, if you know where they are. You could even use 10 of your pictures on one PKMN. Then you'll have all the more pictures to choose from when Dr. Oak grades that particular PKMN. Also be sure to revisit previous stages once you have received the extra items. Who knows what you may find? SECRET STAGE If you can find Dr. Oak's secret cove, he will send you out into the six stages to find some scenery pictures. Once you return to him with these six pictures he will grant you access to the Rainbow Cloud stage where you will try to get a picture of MEW, pokemon #151. I will try to update this FAQ whenever possible, and if anyone has any questions about this FAQ or Pokemon Snap, feel free to email me at wengel@netcom.ca or ICQ at 9722762.
