---------------------------INTRODUCTION/HISTORY----------------------------

Version 1.5: The Pokedex has been updated, now with all info except TM/HM
compatibility for Nidoking to Mewtwo. That will be finished soon. Every
trainer strategy has also been revised, now with opponent Pokemon's moves! Oh
yeah, check out my request list in the In Conclusion section.

Version 1.4: The Pokedex is near complete, with entries for all 151 Pokemon,
extra data coming soon. Mew's abilties are also added at the end of the Ability
List section.

Version 1.3: The Walkthrough is now 100% COMPLETE! The only main section that
needs updating is the Pokedex section, which has been updated this version.
After that, I'll work on the other sections I need to complete. Stay tuned for
a complete version soon!

Version 1.2: The Walkthrough has been updated, and I have revised the strategies
for Gary (Nugget Bridge/Routes 24-25, S.S. Anne) and Misty. Also updated are
the FAQ and In Conclusion sections.

Version 1.1: The Pokemon Ability Lists are completed, plus I revised the Gary
strategies for Route 22, Nugget Bridge, and S.S. Anne. Look for the Walkthrough
and Pokedex to be continued next update.

Version 1.0: The first e-mail I get about this FAQ will probably be "Why did you
write this piece of junk?!". Well, sometimes you need to put your own $0.02 in
for something, and in this case, it's Pokemon. BTW, this is my first FAQ
written in my new FAQ format. Tell me what you think. Another thing, don't
look for the accented E's here. They are a waste of time. There are many
incomplete sections here, this being the first version and all. The next
version will be more complete, I promise.

-----------------------------------STORY-----------------------------------

You assume the role of a 10 year old named Ash, from Pallet Town, attempting to
become the greatest Pokemon trainer in the world. Aided by a Pokemon expert,
Prof. Oak, he travels around the world in search of the 150+ monsters. Along
the way, he will do battle with his rival Gary Oak, the 8 Pokemon Gym Leaders, a

------------------------------------FAQ------------------------------------

How do I get all three starters?

This question is asked a lot. If you can't get access to a Link Cable, pick
Bulbasaur. If you do have the goods, follow these steps:
1. Have one person start a new game, and the other have about 4-5 junky Pokemon
that can be lost.
2. Have him/her choose Bulbasaur.
3. After getting the Pokedex from Oak, go to Viridian City and trade the
Bulbasaur for a junky Pokemon.
4. Now, have that person start a new game, and follow the same steps for
Bulbasaur again.
5. Follow the steps until the person with the junky Pokemon has two of each
starter, except one of them, which will be the one the person that's starting
new games will pick.
6. After that, have the person with the doubles of starters trade the other
person the other two starters.

What's the difference between the Red and Blue versions?

Both games are basically the same, except the rarity of some Pokemon is changed
and some Pokemon you can't catch at all. Here's a list of Pokemon exclusive to
each version, and their counterparts:

Red: Blue:
Ekans Sandshrew
Arbok Sandslash
Mankey Meowth
Primeape Persian
Oddish Bellsprout
Gloom Weepinbell
Vileplume Victreebel
Growlithe Vulpix
Arcanine Ninetales
Scyther Pinsir
Electabuzz Magmar

Why won't my Pokemon evolve? It's at L100 and it hasn't evovled yet.

Not all Pokemon evolve from levels. In some cases, you will need to use an
elemental stone or even trade to another cartridge. Some Pokemon don't even
evolve.

How do I raise weak Pokemon, especially if they don't have any offensive
attacks?

This question is mainly referring to Abra and Magikarp. You can't battle with
them, because they have no offensive attacks (although Magikarp learns Tackle at
L15), so here'e what you do:
1. Put the weak Pokemon in front of the party, when you're ready to battle a
trainer.
2. As soon as the battle starts, replace the weak Pokemon with your strong
Pokemon.
3. When you defeat one of the trainer's Pokemon, the weak Pokemon will gain 1/2
of the experience.
4. When asked to change Pokemon, say yes, then change Pokemon.
5. Repeat Steps 2-4 until the battle is over.
6. Repeat Steps 1-5 each time you battle a trainer.
7. You'll have a Kadabra/Gyarados in no time!

What are the prices of items at each Pokemon Mart?

--------------------------------WALKTHROUGH--------------------------------

NOTE: For the Wild Pokemon listings, that only counts for Pokemon you can find
on land/swimming, not ones you can fish for. The fishing locations are in the
FAQ section.

After you start a new game and have set the names of you and your rival, you'll
appear in...

                                PALLET TOWN

Upon starting in Pallet Town, you will be in your bedroom. Go to your PC, and
select Withdraw Item. Select Potion, take it out, then go downstairs and
outside. The only way you can go for now is north, so head up towards Route 1.
Prof. Oak will then stop you, then take you into his lab. He will then give you
a choice on which Pokemon you wish to start out with. If you want the best
Pokemon for the beginning of the game, pick Bulbasaur. If you want the best
overall Pokemon, pick Squirtle. If you want a challenge, pick Charmander. Upon
choosing your Pokemon, Gary will choose his, obviously picking the one with the
elemental advantage. As you try to walk out, Gary will challenge you...
***************************************************************************
TRAINER: Gary
POKEMON:
*He Chose Bulbasaur*
L5 Bulbasaur- Tackle, Growl
*He Chose Charmander*
L5 Charmander- Scratch, Growl
*He Chose Squirtle*
L5 Squirtle- Tackle, Tail Whip
STRATEGY:
For the first battle, this is almost hard. It may be, if you forgot about your
Potion. The trick is to keep using Scratch/Tackle, and heal when your HP gets
about 5 or below (or the game beeps at you). Don't worry about the opponent's
Growl/Tail Whip, just keep pounding them.
BASICALLY:
You have only your starter, so that's it.
***************************************************************************
After battling Gary, it's time to FINALLY head north to...

                                  ROUTE 1

Wild Pokemon:
#016 Pidgey
#019 Rattata

Items:
Potion

Have your Pokemon healed fully before you enter Route 1. The Pokemon you will
face are at Levels 2-4, so you shouldn't have much of a problem getting by them.
Now would be a good time to begin raising your Pokemon's levels, as you will be
needing it soon. Other than that, talk to the guy near the sign for a Potion,
then go north to...

                               VIRIDIAN CITY

Items:
Oak's Parcel

The first major town, you can't do a lot here. The passage north to Route 2 is
blocked, the gum is closed, Route 22 to the west leads to Gary, and you still
don't have a Pokedex. So, go to the Pokemon Center if your Pokemon needs to be
healed, then go to the Pokemon Mart. The clerk there will give you Oak's
Parcel. Now, go south to...

                                  ROUTE 1

Just keep going south to...

                                PALLET TOWN

Items:
Pokedex
Town Map

Now that you have Oak's Parcel, go to Prof. Oak's lab. Walk up and give him the
parcel. Then Gary will walk in. Oak will then tell you about his dream to have
a catalog of all the Pokemon in the world. He will give you the Pokedex, then
you can go, when he's done. Before leaving, go into Gary's house and talk to
his sister to get a Town Map. Now, head north, again, to...

                                  ROUTE 1

Since you STILL can't catch Pokemon, just go north to...

                               VIRIDIAN CITY

First thing, go into the Pokemon Center and buy some Poke Balls (finally!).
Now, if you need to, go south to Route 1 to catch a Pidgey or Rattata, or you
can just wait until Route 2. This next area is optional, but if you want, go
to...

                                 ROUTE 22

Wild Pokemon:
#019 Rattata
#021 Spearow
#029 Nidoran F
#032 Nidoran M

Go west to the grass patch to find some Nidoran and maybe a Spearow. If your
Pokemon is at a high enough level, go up past the patch, then west to run
into...
***************************************************************************
TRAINER: Gary
POKEMON:
*He Chose Bulbasaur*
L9 Pidgey- Gust, Sand-Attack
L8 Bulbasaur- Tackle, Growl, Leech Seed
*He Chose Charmander*
L9 Pidgey- Gust, Sand-Attack
L8 Charmander- Scratch, Growl
*He Chose Squirtle*
L9 Pidgey- Gust, Sand-Attack
L8 Squirtle- Tackle, Tail Whip, Bubble
STRATEGY:
No matter who you/he picked, you should go into the Viridian Forest (further
down) and pick up a Pikachu. Build it to about L8, then bring it here. Pidgey
will fall to 2 Thundershocks from Pika. As for his starter, use Spearow on
Bulbasaur, Bulbasaur (Tackle/Leech Seed) on Charmander, and Pikachu on Squirtle.
BASICALLY:
Have a Pikachu, and whoever else depending on who he picked.
***************************************************************************
After you've beaten Gary, and you've gotten all the Pokemon you can, go back
east to...

                               VIRIDIAN CITY

If you still have money left, buy about 2-4 Antidotes, then you should go north
to...

                                  ROUTE 2

Wild Pokemon:
#010 Caterpie (Blue)
#013 Weedle (Red)
#016 Pidgey
#019 Rattata

Don't worry about finding a Caterpie/Weedle in the grass patch just before the
building to Viridian Forest. They're abundant in the forest. If you haven't
already caught a Pidgey or Rattata, catch one here, then go north, through the
house, to...

                              VIRIDIAN FOREST

Wild Pokemon:
#010 Caterpie
#011 Metapod
#013 Weedle
#014 Kakuna
#025 Pikachu

Items:
Poke Ball
Antidote
Potion

This is the first area you'll meet the nasty rival trainers that will pester you
until you get through Victory Road. They're all Bug Catchers, so have a L9 or
so Charmander/Spearow to get rid of them, plus a lower level one to weaken the
Pokemon to catch them. You're better off catching a Caterpie/Weedle rather than
Metapod/Kakuna, because all that wild Metapod/Kakuna know are Harden. One more
thing, no matter how long it takes, CATCH A PIKACHU! They are worth it, and
they are the best electric Pokemon until you run into Jolteon or evolve it into
Raichu, so catch one NOW. You'll regret not catching it later. After defeating
the last trainer, go through the next building to get to...

                                  ROUTE 2

Since you already have all the Pokemon from earlier (hopefully), just go in to
the grass and get your Bulbasaur/Squirtle to about L13 or your Charmander to L17
(so he evolves) for the next challenge, inside...

                                PEWTER CITY

You can't go east to Route 3 until you beat the local gym leader, so go into the
Pokemon Center to heal your Pokemon, go buy some Potions, then enter the local
gym...
===========================================================================
PEWTER CITY: POKEMON GYM

Upon entering the local gym, go up and inspect the statues. They will say that
Gary already won. Man, he's fast. Oh, well. Walk up until you see the Jr.
Trainer. If you want to avoid battling, walk behind him. If you want to
battle, just walk up in front of him. He will field ground-type Pokemon. Your
best bet is to use Grass/Water attacks, or high-level Fire attacks. He'll go
down very easily. Now, walk up and talk to the trainer at the back of the gym
to go into battle...
***************************************************************************
TRAINER: Brock
POKEMON:
L12 Geodude- Tackle, Defense Curl
L14 Onix- Tackle, Screech, Bide
STRATEGY:
For you Charmander fans, this will be a long battle. If you picked
Bulbasaur/Squirtle, you have it easy. 1 Vine Whip/Water Gun or around 1-2
Bubbles will delete each of his Pokemon. As for Charmander, get him to around
L14 and keep using Ember. Or, raise a Butterfree to L12 and keep using
Confusion.
BASICALLY:
Water/Grass/Butterfree good, Fire bad.
***************************************************************************
For winning, he'll give you the Boulder Badge and TM 34, teaching Bide.
===========================================================================
After eroding Brock's Pokemon, go to the Pokemon Center, them buy some potions
at the mart, then go to...

                                  ROUTE 3

Wild Pokemon:
#016 Pidgey
#021 Spearow
#039 Jigglypuff

After defeating Brock, you probably need a break from battling trainers. Too
bad Route 3 has a whole load of them. Eight, to be exact. At this point, your
starter should be at least to L14. Have a Pikachu handy also, as some of the
trainers have Pidgeys. Use your Spearow against any Bug types that are brought
out. The last trainer has a Jigglypuff, which is capable of putting your
Pokemon to sleep, so have some Awakenings available. The only new Pokemon to
catch is Jigglypuff. Bring a few Poke Balls if you wish to catch her. Bring
some for Mt. Moon, also. Once you reach Mt. Moon, go into the Pokemon Center.
Heal, then talk to the man near the right side of the center. He will offer to
give you a Magikarp for $500. BUY IT! Sure, you can catch a free one later,
but it'll evolve before you have the chance to fish for it! See the FAQ section
on how to raise it, because it learns no offensive attacks until L15, and it's
at L5. Anyways, have your strongest Pokemon at around L16, and start raising
your Pikachu very well. Now you are ready to enter...

                                 MT. MOON

Wild Pokemon:
#035 Clefairy
#041 Zubat
#046 Paras
#074 Geodude

Items:
Potion (x2)
TM 12
Rare Candy
Escape Rope
Moon Stone (x2)
TM 01
Ether
HP Up

This is basically a three level series of caverns. It's more like a maze of
ladders. This area has around 10 trainers, 4 of them being from the infamous
Team Rocket, a gang of Pokemon thieves bent on world domination. You will find
their base soon, but just get rid of them for now. Catch all four species of
Pokmon here, because you may not get another chance for a while. Here's the
walkthrough:

After entering, go up to the sign, then go left. Defeat the trainer, then pick
up the Potion and TM 12 (Water Gun). Now, go back right, defeat the trainer,
then go right and up. Go down the first ladder you run into, then follow the
path to the next ladder. Defeat the Rocket member, then go right and pick up
the HP Up. Now work your way back to the main level and go down. Defeat the
trainer, then pick up the Potion. If you wish to, go right and defeat that
trainer. Anyways, go to the right wall and pick up the Rare Candy and Escape
Rope. Personally, I say use it on your Magikarp, if you have it. Otherwise,
just use it on whoever you want. Go up to the top, then go left. Defeat the
trainer if you want to, then keep going left, then down, then down the ladder.
Go left to the next ladder. Defeat the Rocket member, then pick up TM 01 (Mega
Punch). Also, inspect the rock to the right for an Ether. Work your way back
to the main level again, then go down. Defeat the trainer, then go left to the
left wall, then go up. You'll find a Moon Stone at the top. Defeat the trainer
near the ladder if you wish, then go down the ladder. Follow the path to the
next ladder. Go down it, then go up, then right, then down the steps to the
Rocket member. He has a L16 Raticate that knows Hyper Fang, so beware.
Anyways, continue along the path until you reach another Rocket member. After
deleting him, keep going up. Before battling the Super Nerd, go into the small
alcove up and to the right of the Rocket member. Inspect the far end of it for
a Moon Stone. Now, defeat the Super Nerd. He'll let you choose a fossil. Take
the Dome Fossil (left) for Kabuto, or the Helix Fossil (right) for Omanyte.
Store it in the PC first chance you get, because you won't need it until you get
to Cinnabar Island. After picking it, go up, left, and down to the ladder, then
go right to reach the exit, leading to...

                                  ROUTE 4

Wild Pokemon:
#019 Rattata
#021 Spearow
#023 Ekans (Red)
#027 Sandshrew (Blue)

Items:
TM 04

There is not much to do here. Just go right, then up to the item, which is TM
04 (Whirlwind). After jumping over the ledge to the grass patch, going back is
impossible. While you're in the grass, catch an Ekans or Sandshrew, depending
on the version you have, build your starter/Pikachu to around L20, then go
into...

                               CERULEAN CITY

Again, you can't advance until you beat the local gym leader, so go to the
Pokemon Center to heal, stock up on Potions, and have either your Ivysaur, if
you chose him, and/or your Pikachu up to at least L20. If you have a Wartortle
instead, try teaching it Mega Punch or Bide. Now, enter the gym...
===========================================================================
CERULEAN CITY: POKEMON GYM

You will have to battle two trainers before you get to Misty. They will bring
out a total of three Water type Pokemon. If you have an
Ivysaur/Pikachu/Wartortle, only if it knows Mega Punch or Bide, you should have
no problem. Watch out for the second trainer's Goldeen, because its Peck move
will hurt Ivysaur pretty badly, because it's a Flying attack. After disposing
of the two trainers, talk to Misty to fight...
***************************************************************************
TRAINER: Misty
POKEMON:
L18 Staryu- Tackle, Water Gun
L21 Starmie- Tackle, Water Gun, Harden, Bubblebeam
STRATEGY:
Again, you Charmeleon fans have it very hard here. Wartortle might do OK, but
Ivysaur will drain her Pokemon's energy like crazy. 1-2 Vine Whips should do
the job for each (maybe 3-4 for Starmie). Wartortle can only win with Bide, so
equip him with it. Charmeleon will die in 2-3 hits, so forget it. The best way
to defeat these pains is to bring in your Pikachu (L20+ for Bubblebeam) or go
past Nugget Bridge and come back with an Oddish/Bellsprout. Their
Grass/Electric attacks will chop off great amounts of HP.
BASICALLY:
Have a good Grass-type or Pikachu with you, and don't use Charmeleon except in
the case of an emergency.
***************************************************************************
For winning, she'll give you the Cascade Badge and TM 11, teaching Bubblebeam.
Wartortle/Gyarados or your main Water-type deserves this.

After defeating Misty, go north to...

***************************************************************************
TRAINER: Gary
POKEMON:
*He Chose Bulbasaur*
L18 Pidgeotto- Gust, Sand-Attack, Quick Attack
L15 Abra- Teleport
L15 Rattata- Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Hyper Fang
L17 Bulbasaur- Tackle, Growl, Leech Seed, Vine Whip
*He Chose Charmander*
L18 Pidgeotto- Gust, Sand-Attack, Quick Attack
L15 Abra- Teleport
L15 Rattata- Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Hyper Fang
L17 Charmander- Scratch, Growl, Ember, Leer
*He Chose Squirtle*
L18 Pidgeotto- Gust, Sand-Attack, Quick Attack
L15 Abra- Teleport
L15 Rattata- Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Hyper Fang
L17 Squirtle- Tackle, Tail Whip, Bubble, Water Gun
STRATEGY:
After defeating Misty, you should have at least 2-3 Pokemon around L18-20, so
this won't be a problem. Pikachu will down Pidgeotto quickly. Abra can't
Teleport away, so just bring in anyone. Rattata isn't too hard, just watch out
for Hyper Fang. As for his starter, use Spearow/Butterfree on Bulbasaur,
Gyarados (if you have one) on Charmander, and Pikachu/Grass-type on Squirtle.
BASICALLY:
A well-rounded party will make this battle easy.
***************************************************************************
After defeating Gary, you'll stumble across Nugget Bridge. There are five
trainers here, with Pokemon ranging from L14-18. After defeating the five, the
last guy will give you a Nugget. Since he's a Rocket member, looks like you'll
have to beat him. He only has two Pokemon, so it won't be a problem. After
that, go west, beat the trainer, and look in the grass for an Oddish/Bellsprout
and an Abra. When you find an Abra, throw a Poke Ball right away. It doesn't
work always, but you can catch him before he gets the chance to teleport. Use
the trick from earlier to raise him up to L16. Go north of this patch to find
TM 45 (Thunder Wave). Now, proceed right through yet another long line of
trainers. To get the item behind the trainer, either make him walk out far
enough to get in, or come back with the Cut ability. The item is TM 19 (Seismic
Toss). Anyways, after making it past the last trainer, enter the...

Apparently Bill made a mistake with his machine, so help him to return back to
his normal form. After he's back to normal, talk to him again to recieve the
S.S. Ticket, giving you access to the S.S. Anne in Vermilion City. Before going
back, leave, then come back in. Get on his computer and get some pictures for
Eevee, Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon. Now, you need to take...

...all the way back to...

                               CERULEAN CITY

Items:
TM 28

Now that you're back in Cerulean, go into the house that was once blocked by the
police officer. Go through to the back entrance. Defeat the Rocket member out
back for TM 28 (Dig). If you have a Geodude, he's the best candidate for this,
unless you wish to save it for later. Now, proceed down and out of the city
to...

                                  ROUTE 5

Wild Pokemon:
#016 Pidgey
#043 Oddish (Red)
#052 Meowth (Blue)
#056 Mankey (Red)
#069 Bellsprout (Blue)

Route 5 is home to the famous Pokemon Daycare, where you can leave one of your
Pokemon behind to gain experience points. For every step Ash takes, the
deposited Pokemon gains one experience point. If you have any weak Pokemon you
wish to raise, dump him in here, because you'll be coming back anyways. The
risk is he won't evolve at the right time and the attacks he learns are chosen
by the game. Anyways, you can't go to Saffron City to the south yet, so take
the Underground Path under Saffron to...

                                  ROUTE 6

Wild Pokemon:

#043 Oddish (Red)
#052 Meowth (Blue)
#056 Mankey (Red)
#069 Bellsprout (Blue)

Following the outlined path between the grass patches, you will encounter 6
trainers, one having a L20 Butterfree. Just defeat them all, then go south to
reach...

                              VERMILION CITY

Items:
Old Rod
Bike Voucher

Famous for the luxury cruise ships that dock at the harbor, Vermilion City is
your next stop. You can't enter the gym yet, so explore the city. Go into the
house right above the gym and talk to the guy in the back. If you let him tell
you about his Rapidash, he'll give you a Bike Voucher. Go into the house next
to the Pokemon Center and talk to the man for the Old Rod. I suggest not taking
it, simply because you can only catch Magikarp with it, and you probably already
have a Gyarados. Now, take Routes 5-6 back up to...

                               CERULEAN CITY

Items:
Bicycle

Now that you're back, go back up, and jump over the ledge just right of the gym.
Go into the building in the lower-left corner of town. Go inside and talk to
the clerk behind the counter to get a Bicycle (provided you still have the
Voucher). Now, yet again, take Routes 5-6 to...

                              VERMILION CITY

Pokemon to Trade For:
#083 Farfetch'd

Before going aboard the S.S. Anne, go into the house next to where you got the
Bike Voucher. The person inside will give you a Farfech'd for a Spearow. This
is the only place to get a Farfech'd, so I suggest you trade. Remember, you
must have Spearow in your party to trade. Now, go east, and travel down the
dock. If you have the S.S. Ticket, the guy at the end will let you pass. Go
down to enter the...

HM 01

This famous cruise ship, known as the S.S. Anne, is on its annual Pokemon
Cruise. That means you'll find trainers all over the place. Actually, there is
only one trainer you MUST defeat, unfortunately it's Gary. Before you go lay
the smack down on him again, explore each floor and room to find trainers and
items. Most of them have water Pokemon, so bring out your Ivysaur/Pikachu.
Some of the trainers also have Growlithes, so use your
Geodude/Wartortle/Gyarados. After you're done searching every room, and every
crevice (find the Great Ball in the kitchen, lowest trash can), go to the first
floor, up the staricase in the upper-left corner, then go down, and all the way
right to find...

POKEMON:
*He Chose Bulbasaur*
L19 Pidgeotto- Gust, Sand-Attack, Quick Attack
L16 Raticate- Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Hyper Fang
L18 Kadabra- Teleport, Confusion
L20 Ivysaur- Tackle, Growl, Leech Seed, Vine Whip
*He Chose Charmander*
L19 Pidgeotto- Gust, Sand-Attack, Quick Attack
L16 Raticate- Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Hyper Fang

*He Chose Squirtle*

L16 Raticate- Tackle, Tail Whip, Quick Attack, Hyper Fang
L18 Kadabra- Teleport, Confusion
L20 Wartortle- Tackle, Tail Whip, Bubble, Water Gun
STRATEGY:
Gary needs to raise his Pokemon better. Anyways, Pidgeotto will bow down to
Pikachu again. Raticate and Kadabra warrant a strong Pokemon. As for the
starters, use Flying-type/Butterfree on Ivysaur, Gyarados/Geodude/Diglett on
Charmeleon, and Pikachu/Grass-type on Wartortle.
BASICALLY:
Get the picture on battling Gary yet?
***************************************************************************
After laying the smack down on Gary, go into the room behind him and talk to the
captain. After rubbing his back, he'll give you HM 01, which teaches Cut.
Teach it to your Ivysaur/Charmeleon/somebody that's compatible with it. Make
sure you've gotten everything, then leave the ship. It will sail away. You'll
end up back in...

                              VERMILION CITY

You have Cut, but don't go into the Gym yet. Go east, and into the cave to find
a Diglett/Dugtrio (more on that later), put it at the front of the line, THEN
come back and cut the bush leading to the entrance of the gym...
===========================================================================
VERMILION CITY: POKEMON GYM

The three trainers before Lt. Surge are all dedicated to electric-type Pokemon.
Be prepared to battle Pikachus, Magnemites, and Voltorbs. If you have a
Diglett/Dugtrio at L19 so it knows Dig, or a Geodude equipped with TM 28 (Dig),
you should have no problem. Now you're asking yourself "How do I get by the
door to Lt. Surge?". After defeating the trainers, they'll reveal the puzzle.
To open the door, you must find two randomly placed locks inside the cans. Look
around every one until you find a lock. Then try looking in the can TO THE
RIGHT of it. More often than not, it'll be there. If you find one switch, and
the next can doesn't have another one, the puzzle resets. If you find both
locks, the door will open, leading to Lt. Surge...

TRAINER: Lt. Surge
POKEMON:
L21 Voltorb- Tackle, Screech, Sonicboom
L18 Pikachu- Thundershock, Growl, Thunder Wave, Quick Attack
L24 Raichu- Thundershock, Growl, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt
STRATEGY:
This time, all of the starters stink. Electricity can only be short-circuited
be one other type: Ground. So, bring in a Ground-type with Dig
(Diglett/Dugtrio/Sandshrew/Geodude) and they will fall in 1-2 shots. Raichu
will take about 2 shots depending on your level.
BASICALLY:
Use only a Ground-type or get toasted.
***************************************************************************
For winning, you get the Thunder Badge and TM 24, teaching Thunderbolt. Pikachu
or any dominant Electric-type deserves this.

After short-circuiting his Pokemon, it's time to continue. Go east of Vermilion
and into the cave...

                              DIGLETT'S CAVE

Wild Pokemon:
#050 Diglett
#051 Dugtrio

If you followed my advice for Lt. Surge, you've probably already caught a
Diglett/Dugtrio from here. If you haven't, catch one now. If you have, just go
through the cave to end up all the way back at...

                                  ROUTE 2

Pokemon to Trade For:
#122 Mr. Mime

Items:
Moon Stone
HP Up
HM 05

Remember the eastern half of Route 2 you couldn't access? Here it is. First,
go all the way down, past the buildings, to find the Moon Stone and an HP Up.
Now, reenter the larger building. If you've caught 10 kinds of Pokemon, the
Prof. Oak's Aide will give you HM 05, which teaches Flash. Save it until you
get to Route 9. Go into the smaller building, where a person will give you a
Mr. Mime for an Abra. You can always come back if you don't have an Abra. Now,
you need to get back to Cerulean City. You can either take Diglett's Cave back
to Vermilion, then go north, of go north to Pewter, then east through Mt. Moon.
Either way is good, but stop at Pewter first...

                                PEWTER CITY

Items:
Old Amber

You probably noticed the other entrance to the Museum. You probably also
noticed the bush blocking the way to it. Use your new Cut ability to go by it
and enter the door. Talk to the scientist next to the display in the back to
get the Old Amber. Go to the Pokemon Center and deposit it in the PC, because
you don't need it until you get to Cinnabar Island. Now, however you do it, go
back to...

                               CERULEAN CITY

Remember the bush blocking the eastern passage out of Cerulean City. Cut it

Wild Pokemon:
#019 Rattata
#021 Spearow
#023 Ekans (Red)
#027 Sandshrew (Blue)
#100 Voltorb

Items:
TM 30

Have at least 3-5 Poke Balls on hand for Route 9 and the Rock Tunnel. If you
catch a Voltorb, teach it Flash, because you won't need it after Rock Tunnel.
There are 10 trainers leading up to Rock Tunnel. One of them has 2 Beedrills,
so watch out. Don't forget to pick up TM 30 (Teleport). Upon reaching the
Pokemon Center, withdraw your new Voltorb, teach it Flash, have a couple Pokemon

Wild Pokemon:

#095 Onix

If you didn't pick up Flash, you're in trouble. Sure, you can see the walls and
maybe the ladders, but you can't see the trainers. Navigating through the
tunnel isn't very hard anyways, considering there's only one path going through.
You will battle a total of 14 trainers, including Hikers, Pokemaniacs, and Jr.
Trainers F. After working your way through this LONG path, you'll appear at...

                                  ROUTE 10

Items:
Max Ether

Nothing much to do here. There are 4 more trainers to annoy you. Fortunately,
you can dodge all of them. Inspect the bush in the upper-right corner for a Max
Ether, then go south to...

                               LAVENDER TOWN

A townsperson is missing, and is supposedly at the top of the Pokemon Tower by
mischievious spirits. Since you can't identify the spirits to stop them, you'll
just have to go west to Celadon. Before you do, pick up some Great Balls for
the trip west. Now, head towards...

#027 Sandshrew (Blue)
#037 Vulpix (Blue)
#052 Meowth (Blue)
#056 Mankey (Red)
#058 Growlithe (Red)

Along this route you can now catch a Growlithe/Vulpix, quite good Fire-type
Pokemon. You must use Cut to get to the grass patch. There are 9 trainers
leading west to Saffron. Since you can't enter Saffron, take the Underground
Path to...

into...

                                CELADON CITY

Pokemon to Recieve:
#133 Eevee

Items:
Coin Case
TM 13
TM 48
TM 49

The largest town in the game is bustling with activity. You can visit the giant
Dept. Store, compete for a badge, or go to the Game Corner to play slots. I'll
start with finding Eevee. Go up the path to the right of the Pokemon Center,
and follow it left, up, and left again to the back door of the mansion (second-
largest building). Go up the steps to the small "building". Go in and pick up
the Poke Ball. That's Eevee! You have three choices on what to evolve him into
(see below). Now, go into the Dept. Store.

Go buy all you need on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th floors. On the 4th floor, you can
buy special evolution stones. Who do you use them on? Look no further than
here (Note: This is not the same as the Evolution diagrams in the Pokedex
section. Also, you can't buy Moon Stones.):

#025 Pikachu--Thunder Stone-->#026 Raichu
#030 Nidorina--Moon Stone-->#031 Nidoqueen
#033 Nidorino--Moon Stone-->#034 Nidoking

          |--Water Stone-->#134 Vaporeon
#133 Eevee+--Thunder Stone-->#135 Jolteon
          |--Fire Stone-->#136 Flareon

Buy a Fresh Water, Soda Pop, and Lemonade from the vending machines. Give them
to the girl who says I'm thirsty, and she'll give you TM 13 (Ice Beam), TM 48
(Rock Slide), and TM 49 (Tri Attack). Equip someone with Ice Beam, you'll need
it. Pick up an extra Fresh Water for later, and maybe a Poke Doll from the 4th
Floor. Now, go to the second building from the left in the bottom-right corner.
Talk to the guy in the upper-left corner to get a Coin Case to hold your coins.
Now, enter the building directly right from the pond. Talk to the people to get
some coins, and if you come back with the Itemfinder, you can find coins
scattered on the ground. What do you use the coins for? Go to the building to
the right to exchange your coins for Pokemon/TMs. The prizes are:

What you REALLY want to do is go back to the Game Corner, and talk to the Rocket
(?!) member to battle. After he moves from the poster, walk up and inspect the
poster. You'll unlock a hidden staircase leading to...

CELADON CITY: ROCKET GAME CORNER BASEMENT

Items:
Escape Rope
Hyper Potion
Nugget
TM 07
Moon Stone
Super Potion
Rare Candy
TM 10
Lift Key
TM 02
HP Up

Silph Scope

You have now landed in Team Rocket's hidden base. The leader, Giovanni, holds a
Silph Scope, which will help you back in Lavender Town. 11 Rocket members guard
the base, and they aren't much of a problem. The tricky part is getting your
way to Giovanni. You need to find the Lift Key to activate the elevator leading
to Giovanni. First, you must navigate some small tile mazes. Step on an arrow
one to move that way, and you'll keep moving through arrows until you find a 4-
square tile, which will stop you. You'll find these again later, so get used to
them. Note: This is not a very challenging area, just the arrows might get you
frustrated the first few times. This walkthrough tells how to get all 13 items.
I will note the floors as B1, B2, B3, B4.

After appearing down in the base on B1, go left and defeat the Rocket, then go
down and pick up the Escape Rope. Now go down the steps to B2. You don't need
to worry about the tiles on B2 yet, so just go down and left, defeat the Rocket,
then go down the stairs behind him to B3. Go down and defeat the Rocket, then
keep going down to find TM 10 (Double-Edge). Now, work your way over to the
tiles. This one is a piece of cake. Go to the left and hop on the < arrow.
After stopping, go down and step on the > arrow. After stopping, go back
towards the arrow, then go down. Do NOT use either of the > arrows right below
you. Instead, go left, down, and go on the TOP > arrow. Upon stopping, go left
and defeat the Rocket, then go down, right, and up to the staircase, leeading to
B4. Go down and left to find an HP Up, then go all the way up to the top of the
room. Go left and into the small alcove below the Rocket to find TM 02 (Razor
Wind). Now defeat the Rocket, and he'll give up the Lift Key. Now go back up
the steps to B3. Go up to the ^ arrow, then go right to find a Rare Candy.
Now, go left, then up to the next ^ arrow. After stopping, go back to the
staircase leading to B2. NOW you have to worry about the tile maze here. I'll
start a new paragraph to end the confusion.

From the start of the tile maze on B2, use the lower < arrow. When you stop on
the other side, backtrack to the item you missed (Nugget). Double back to the
stop panel, then grab the item below it, by going down, then left, and up (Moon
Stone). If you want to, use the > arrow right there to find TM 07 (Horn Drill).
After getting it, go right and up to the ^ arrow. This path will take you back
to the first stop panel. Go down to the two > arrows and use the lower one.
Now, go straight right from the stop panel to the next > arrow. After stopping,
go left to the < arrow. After stopping again, go right, down, and take the
lower < arrow. Upon stopping, go down, right, up to the double ^ arrows. After
stopping, go down 1 step, then left to pick up the Super Potion. After doing
this, go up to the < arrow, then go UP this time from that panel snd step on
either the > or ^ arrows, which will lead you to about the spot you got TM 07.
Refollow the directions from TM 07 until you reach the two < arrows, which you
took the lower one. This time, take the upper one. After stopping, go down to
the > arrow and follow that path. Now, go up, and right to the staircase to B1.
In this new room, defeat the two Rockets, then pick up the Hyper Potion in the
upper-left corner. Take the staircase back to B2, then go up and right to the
door. Now that you have the Lift Key, you can activate the elevator. Take it
to B4. Upon exiting, go left, down, and all the way left to find an Iron. Now
go back and talk to the Rockets. After defeating both of them, go to the back
and talk to the man in the suit to battle...

TRAINER: Giovanni
POKEMON:
L25 Onix- Screech, Bind, Rock Throw, Rage
L24 Rhyhorn- Horn Attack
L29 Kangaskhan- Comet Punch, Rage, Bite
STRATEGY:
You will battle him again sometime, so get used to him. Any Grass/Water-type
will defeat Onix and Rhyhorn. Kangaskhan is stronger, so pound him with Psychic
or Fighting attacks, or anything that you have to kill him. Charmeleon won't be
of much help in this battle... (go down to next strategy)
BASICALLY:
Like Brock, Water and Grass are good, Fire is bad.
***************************************************************************
After defeating Giovanni, he'll give you the Silph Scope, to identify the ghosts
in Pokemon Tower. Now, take the elevator to B1, then defeat the two Rockets on
the way out. Finally, you're out of the base.
===========================================================================
After leaving the Game Corner, go back to the Pokemon Center to heal and go to
the Celadon Dept. Store to pick up some healing items (Antidote, Paralyze Heal,
Awakening) and some Super Potions, then cut down the bush near the lowest Rocket
member and follow the path to...
===========================================================================
CELADON CITY: POKEMON GYM

You probably thought after covering the Game Corner, I was going to miss the
Gym. Nice try. Anyways, all of the trainers here use Grass-types around L20+.
Bring along a Fire-type (Charmeleon/Growlithe/Vulpix), Flying-type
(Fearow/Pidgeotto), a Psychic-type (Kadabra or even Butterfree), and/or the
Pokemon you taught Ice Beam to. They will all come in handy on the trainers.
Just make sure they are at least L25 (L30 if you bring along a Water-type).
After defeating the trainers around the center, use Cut to enter the center
"garden". Defeat the three normal trainers, then talk to the girl with the
black hair to fight...
***************************************************************************
TRAINER: Erika
POKEMON:
L29 Victreebel- Wrap, Poison Powder, Sleep Powder, Razor Leaf
L24 Tangela- Constrict, Bind
L29 Vileplume- Poison Powder, Mega Drain, Sleep Powder, Petal Dance
STRATEGY:
... but he is here. Charmeleon will make short work of these dancing plants.
Wartortle's only hope is teaching it Ice Beam. Ivysaur will be limited to
attacks like Tackle and Cut. If you don't have a Charmeleon, a good suggestion
is to pick up a Fire-type from Route 8 (Growlithe/Vulpix), have a Bug-type
(Butterfree preferably), a Flying-type (Pidgeotto/Fearow), or a Psychic-type
(Kadabra/Drowzee). Overall, not too challenging.
BASICALLY:
Fire/Psychic/Flying/Bug will do the job, but Grass, Water, and others simply are
not useful.
***************************************************************************
For winning, you get the Rainbow Badge and TM 21 (Mega Drain)
===========================================================================
After defeating Erika, and having the Silph Scope, take Routes 7/8 back to...

                               LAVENDER TOWN

Now that you have the Silph Scope, enter...

LAVENDER TOWN: POKEMON TOWER

Wild Pokemon:
#092 Gastly
#093 Haunter
#104 Cubone

Items:
Escape Rope
Awakening
Elixer
HP Up
Nugget
X Accuracy
Rare Candy
Poke Flute

Pokemon Tower is famous for being the resting place of many departed Pokemon.
Something has gone bad here, and a bunch of ghosts have taken over and possessed
the Channelers, the people that staff the tower. Bring along a strong Psychic-
type and a strong Water-type when entering here, plus a well-rounded team of
others.

Go up the steps to the second floor, where an old rival is waiting...

TRAINER: Gary
POKEMON:

L25 Pidgeotto- Gust, Sand-Attack, Quick Attack, Whirlwind
L23 Gyarados- Bite, Dragon Rage, Leer, Hydro Pump
L22 Growlithe- Bite, Roar, Ember
L20 Kadabra- Teleport, Confusion, Disable
L25 Ivysaur- Growl, Leech Seed, Vine Whip, Poison Powder
*He Chose Charmander*
L25 Pidgeotto- Gust, Sand Attack, Quick Attack, Whirlwind
L23 Exeggcute- Barrage, Hypnosis
L22 Gyarados- Bite, Dragon Rage, Leer, Hydro Pump
L20 Kadabra- Teleport, Confusion, Disable
L25 Charmeleon- Growl, Ember, Leer, Rage
*He Chose Squirtle*
L25 Pidgeotto- Gust, Sand Attack, Quick Attack, Whirlwind
L23 Growlithe- Bite, Roar, Ember, Leer
L22 Exeggcute- Barrage, Hypnosis
L20 Kadabra- Teleport, Confusion, Disable
L25 Wartortle- Tail Whip, Bubble, Water Gun, Bite
STRATEGY:
This won't be very hard, provided you're raising your Pokemon. For Pidgeotto,
use some electricity from Pikachu. Now his party depends on who he picked. Use
Pikachu on Gyarados, Fire/Flying on Exeggcute, and Gyarados/Wartortle/Dugtrio on
Growlithe. For Kadabra, use a strong Pokemon. As for starters, use
Flying/Fire/Psychic/Butterfree on Ivysaur, Dugtrio/Gyarados/Graveler on
Charmeleon, and Pikachu/Grass-type on Wartortle.
BASICALLY:
I'm not going to say it again...
***************************************************************************
Now you can explore. Don't worry, you will not be attacked until you reach the
3rd floor. One quick note: Despite what nearly every battle chart on the
Internet says, GHOSTS DON'T HAVE AN ADVANTAGE OVER PSYCHICS!!!!! (Did I make
that clear?). It's the other way around. To tell the truth, Psychics only have
advantages over Ghosts because they are also Poison. I'm sorry for that. I
just had to clear things up. Also, if you want to catch a Ghost, use Water-type
attacks because Psychic-type may kill them in one hit (useful against
Channelers).

Anyways, go up to the 3rd floor. In the upper-right corner is an Escape Rope.
Defeat the trainers here, then go up to the 4th floor. Pick up the Awakening,
Elixer, and HP Up, go through more Channelers, then go up to the 5th floor.
Defeat the Channelers, but note the one near the little tiles in the middle.
She won't battle. Instead, step in the little tile area to restore your
Pokemon. Pick up the Nugget, then go up to the 6th floor. Defeat the
Channelers and pick up the X Accuracy and Rare Candy, then try to go up to the
7th floor. You will go into battle with a L30 Marowak (the evolved form of
Cubone). Angered by the deaths of her childen, she wishes to be put to rest.
Defeat her and she will do that. Anyways, go to the 7th floor, defeat the
Rockets, then talk to Mr. Fuji, then guy in the back. After teleporting back
into town, he'll give you the Poke Flute as a reward.
===========================================================================
After receiving the Poke Flute, go to Route 8 and up to the guardhouse. In
exchange for the Fresh Water, that guard and all the others will let you in to
Saffron City. Finally! Now, go in...

                                SAFFRON CITY

Pokemon to Recieve:
#106 Hitmonlee/#107 Hitmonchan

Items:
TM 29
TM 31

First things first, go to the Pokemon Mart and buy some Hyper Potions (?!).
Then, go into the building in the same row as the Mart, all the way to the
right. Talk to the guy and he'll give you TM 29 (Psychic). Now, go to the
upper-left corner. A Rocket member is guarding the house, but if you come back
after he's gone, go upstairs to the 2nd floor and give the girl your Poke Doll
to recieve TM 31 (Mimic). Now, go to the upper-right corner of town. The gym
to the right is blocked by a Rocket, but you should go into the other one. Use
a Flying/Psychic-type to defeat the five trainers' Fighting-types and the leader
will let you have either a Hitmonlee or a Hitmonchan. I suggest Hitmonchan
because he has elemental attacks. Now, you want to go to the large building in
the center of town...

SAFFRON CITY: SILPH CO.

Pokemon to Recieve:
#131 Lapras

Items:
TM 36
Hyper Potion
Escape Rope
Max Revive
Full Heal
TM 09
Card Key
Protein
HP Up
X Accuracy
Calcium
TM 03
TM 26
Rare Candy
Carbos
Master Ball

This place is HUGE! Imagine an 11 story building full of warp tiles and Rocket
members. 28, to be exact, and that doesn't even count two special guests. Now,
the warp tiles. They will teleport you from floor to floor, and sometimes get
you confused. You won't need to use them, except to get to the end. I suggest
you get the Card Key first. So, use the elevator to go to the 5th floor, then
left, defeat the Scientist, then down, past two doors. Step on the tile to be
teleported to the 9th floor. Go up 1 step, then step on the tile from the top.
Upon going back on the 5th floor, make 1 step down, defeat the Rocket, then go
right to pick up the Card Key. Now, I will list the items by floor:

*1F: None
*2F: TM 36 (Self Destruct). You must talk to the lady in the upper-left room on
this floor to recieve this. It also requires either the Card Key or coming from
a teleporter on the 3rd floor, near the staircases.
*3F: Hyper Potion. Requires the Card Key. From the staircases, go left, down,
defeat the Rocket, then open the two doors leading left to the item. (Remember
this area. You'll be coming back to it.)
*4F: Escape Rope, Max Revive, Full Heal. Requires the Card Key. From the
staircases, go left, down, left, defeat the Rocket, then open the leftmost door
to find the room.
*5F: Card Key. See the above directions.
TM 09 (Take Down). Requires the Card Key or coming from a teleporter on
the 3rd floor, in the lower-left corner. Open the door near the Rocket member
leading to the Card Key (see above).
Protein. Requires the Card Key. Open the door above the one to TM 09.
*6F: HP Up, X Accuracy. Requires the Card Key. From the staircases, go left,
down, and open the door (lower-left corner).
*7F: Calcium. From the staircases, go down the narrow hallway, left to the left
wall, then up.
     Gary (see below).
     Lapras (see below).
TM 03 (Swords Dance). Requires the Card Key. Right from the staircases,
defeat the Rocket, then open the door right below him.
*8F: None
*9F: Healing Lady. Requires the Card Key. From the staircases, go down the
hallway, defeat the Rocket, then open the door. Look near the beds. Or, go
through the teleporter on the 3rd floor, in the room where you got the Hyper
Potion. Defeat the Rocket, then go down and open up the door.
*10F: TM 26 (Earthquake), Rare Candy, Carbos. From the staircases, go left,
down, defeat the Rocket, then collect.
*11F: Giovanni (see below)
      Master Ball (see below)

After ransaking the whole building except for Gary, Lapras, Giovanni, and the
Master Ball, go back to the 3rd floor. Go to the room the leads to the room
with the Hyper Potion. Go onto that warp pad to the 7th floor, where Gary is
waiting...

L38 Gyarados- Bite, Dragon Rage, Leer, Hydro Pump
L35 Growlithe- Roar, Ember, Leer, Take Down
L35 Alakazam- Confusion, Disable, Psybeam, Recover
L40 Venusaur- Leech Seed, Vine Whip, Poison Powder, Razor Leaf
*He Chose Charmander*
L37 Pidgeot- Sand-Attack, Quick Attack, Whirlwind, Wing Attack
L38 Exeggcute- Reflect, Leech Seed, Stun Spore, Poison Powder
L35 Gyarados- Bite, Dragon Rage, Leer, Hydro Pump
L35 Alakazam- Confusion, Disable, Psybeam, Recover
L40 Charizard- Ember, Leer, Rage, Slash
*He Chose Squirtle*

L38 Growlithe- Roar, Ember, Leer, Take Down
L35 Exeggcute- Hypnosis, Reflect, Leech Seed, Stun Spore
L35 Alakazam- Confusion, Disable, Psybeam, Recover
L40 Blastoise- Bubble, Water Gun, Bite, Withdraw
STRATEGY:
After defeating 28 trainers, your Pokemon should be at least around L34+. For
Pidgeot, use Pikachu/Raichu/Jolteon. Now, the part that depends on who he
picked. For Gyarados, use who you used for Pidgeot. For Growlithe, use any
Water or Ground type. For Exeggcute, use any Flying or Fire type. As for
Alakazam, use your strongest Poekmon. For his starter, use
Fire/Flying/Psychic/Bug on Venusaur, Gyarados/Graveler on Charizard, and your
Electric or Grass-type on Blastoise.
BASICALLY:
Just be sure your well-rounded party is at least at L34.
***************************************************************************
After defeating Gary, talk to the guy near the next warp pad to recieve a

L35 Kangaskhan- Comet Punch, Rage, Bite, Tail Whip
L37 Rhyhorn- Horn Attack, Stomp, Tail Whip
L41 Nidoqueen- Scratch, Tail Whip, Poison Sting, Body Slam
STRATEGY:
Quite easy, if you beat Gary easily. Nidorino will fall to Ground/Psychic
attack. Kangaskhan is easiest when using Psychic/Fighting attacks. Rhyhorn
will fall to Water/Grass attacks. As for Nidoqueen, any
Ground/Psychic/Water/Ice attack will harm it very much.
BASICALLY:
Water, Grass, Ground, and Psychic are good here.

===========================================================================
SAFFRON CITY: POKEMON GYM

You will hate this gym. Not that the trainers will wear you down, it's getting
around the place. You must use the warp pads to go from room to room, all the
way to Sabrina, in the middle. To do this, enter the first warp pad, then keep
going in the warp pad to the left or right of the one you just landed on. Going
around, you will make it to Sabrina, plus have a shot at getting every trainer.
You will battle Channelers here (use your Kadabra/Alakazam, sorry for not using
their names for a while) and some others. They will all have Psychic-types. If
you ever find Slowpokes/Slowbros, use Pikachu/Raichu/Jolteon. Eventually,
you'll find your way all around the gym to...
***************************************************************************
TRAINER: Sabrina
POKEMON:
L38 Kadabra- Disable, Psybeam, Recover, Psychic
L37 Mr. Mime- Confusion, Barrier, Light Screen, Doubleslap
L38 Venomoth- Poison Powder, Leech Life, Stun Spore, Psybeam
L43 Alakazam- Psybeam, Recover, Psychic, Reflect
STRATEGY:
This is probably the toughest battle you will have in the game. Bug Pokemon
won't help much, considering most of them are also Poison. Ghost types are also
part Poison, and their attacks won't be very effective. There are two
solutions. One, go ahead through the game and raise a Jotleon to L48, then come
ALL the way back to Saffron, then use Pin Missile to get rid of Kadabra, Mr.
Mime, and Alakazam, and use Flying/Fire/Psychic on Venomoth. Or, just pound
them all with your strongest attacks before they use their attacks to Confuse
you. This will be a very tough battle, although Venomoth will fall to nearly
anything.
BASICALLY:
Except for Venomoth, her Pokemon are nearly indestructible. L40+ Pokemon are
recommended.

For winning, you get the Marsh Badge and TM 46, teaching Psywave, which is not

After defeating Sabrina, you should go to Fuschia City. There are two ways to
get there, by taking Routes 12-15 or 16-18. You need the Poke Flute to wake the
Snorlaxes on each path, so take it with you. The best way to go is Routes 12-
15, but first go to Route 16...

                                  ROUTE 16

Items:
HM 02

Go west of Celadon to get to this. Don't wake up the Snorlax yet. Cut down the
bush, then go into the upper building. At the other end is a little house. Go
inside and talk to the trainer to recieve HM 02, which teaches Fly. Besides
being a powerful combat technique, it will let you fly to any city you've
already been to. Equip it to any Flying-type you have, then fly to Lavender
Town, then go south to...

#143 Snorlax

Items:
Super Rod
TM 16
Iron

Also known as Silence Bridge, Route 12 is the start of the longer of two ways to
Fuschia. This one is better to take on because the tons of trainers will
definitely give you tons of experience. After battling the first trainer,
you'll see an item on an island. To get the item (TM 16, Pay Day) come back
here with Surf. After going by four trainers, you'll see the almighty Snorlax.
Use your Poke Flute to wake him up. Then you will have the chance to
battle/catch him. To catch the L30 giant, weaken him down, then put him to
sleep and throw Great Balls. If you can't catch it, don't worry because you'll
get another chance. After another trainer, you'll find a small house. Go
inside and the man will give you a Super Rod. This will let you catch ANY water
Pokemon. Try fishing right off the birdge. Very soon afterwards is a small
enclosed area with a trainer and an item. Cut down the bush, defeat the
trainer, and pick up the iron. To get to the grass patch further down, use Cut
on the bush. You're approaching the end of the bridge, and also approaching...

#043 Oddish (Red)
#044 Gloom (Red)
#048 Venonat
#069 Bellsprout (Blue)

#132 Ditto

Follwing the bridge, you have made it back to the mainland. To access the grass
patch, go around and use Cut on the bush on the far left side. The only new
Pokemon is Ditto. There are 14 trainers along Route 13, most of them Bird
Keepers. Use an Electric-type for quick victories. Just work your way through
the maze, and onto the brick path leading to...

#044 Gloom (Red)
#048 Venonat

#070 Weepinbell (blue)
#132 Ditto

To get to the first grass patch, use Cut on the bush on the bottom wall of it.
To get to the upper path leading west, use Cut on the bush past the 5th trainer
on a bike. At the end of the path (after a trainer) is TM 20 (Rage). There are
16 (?!) trainers along this route. Prepare to meet Bikers, who will throw

to Celadon City, and go west to...

                                  ROUTE 16

Wild Pokemon:

#143 Snorlax

Welcome to Cycling Road...err...Route 16. To access the grass patch, Cut down
the bush leading to the path to HM 02 (you already got it). Catch a Doduo if
you can. Now comes your second chance to catch a Snorlax. This time, if you
don't catch it, you'll never get another chance, so save before you battle him.
Since you have Ultra Balls, you can catch him easier. Use the same strategy as
before and you should get him. Now, go through the guardhouse. You need the
Bicycle to get through this part. Upon emerging at the other side, defeat the 6
Bikers/Cue Balls there, then go south to reach the slope of Cycling Road, also
known as...

The slope will automatically send you south here. If you wish to stop sloping,
hold the A or B buttons to manuever. There are about 10 trainers on the way
down, including some on the two outer paths. To dodge them, take the middle
path, the one with the water. After reaching down to the bottom, you'll stop,
which will put you on...

Upon reaching the bottom, go east into the guardhouse. Go upstairs and talk to
the trainer. He'll trade you a Lickitung for your Slowbro. If you don't have a
Slowbro, just come back later when you have one, and it must be in your party.
After exiting, go down to the grass patch and defeat the three Bird Keepers,
then go east to end up back at...

                                FUSCHIA CITY

Items:
Good Rod
HM 04

The upper half of town runs along a winding path. Use Cut to make some
shortcuts, preferably to the Pokemon Mart and Safari Zone. First, go to the
lower-right corner of town, and go into the right house. The guy will give you
a Good Rod. You don't need it if you already have the Super Rod. Go fishing in
his backyard anyways. When you're done, go to the Pokemon Mart and buy LOTS of
Full Heals and some Super Potions, then enter the gym, right next to the Pokemon
Center...
===========================================================================
FUSCHIA CITY: POKEMON GYM

The first thing you'll notice here is that the gym leader looks immediately
accessible. Walk straight toward him and you'll notice another thing: near-
invisible walls. I said near-invisible becuase you can barely make them out.
To get to him, you must go counter-clockwise around the gym and battle basically
EVERY trainer. They are ninja-style trainers, so they'll bring out Psychic and
Poison types (what a combination). Bring a party with a Ground-type, Psychic-
type, and something strong to get rid of Psychics. After getting around the
long maze of walls, talk to Koga to battle...
***************************************************************************
TRAINER: Koga
POKEMON:
L37 Koffing- Tackle, Smog, Sludge, Smoke Screen
L39 Muk- Disable, Poison Gas, Minimize, Sludge
L37 Koffing- Tackle, Smog, Sludge, Smoke Screen
L43 Weezing- Smog, Sludge, Toxic, Self Destruct
STRATEGY:
Compared to Sabrina, Koga is a push-over. The best solution is to use Ground or
Psychic-type Pokemon/attacks and they will fall. The only things you need to
worry about are Weezing's Self Destruct and Toxic attacks, which will seriously
damage your Pokemon. Very easy.
BASICALLY:
As long as you have a Ground or Psychic-type, this will be a piece of cake.
***************************************************************************
For winning, you'll get the Soul Badge and TM 06, teaching Toxic, which is
actually a quite good attack.
===========================================================================
After defeating Koga, go to the Pokemon Center and heal, and make sure to open a
new box for the next activity. Yes, you're going to the Safari Zone...

Carbos
TM 40
Protein
Max Revive
Gold Teeth
TM 32
HM 03

As you can see, this place is a goldmine for Pokemon and items. But first, you
must pay a $500 fee to get in. This includes 500 steps inside the park, and 30
Safari Balls to catch Pokemon. There are four areas here. There is the Center
Area (where you start), Area 1, Area 2, and Area 3. Each contains a different
set of Pokemon with different odds. I will list here the different Pokemon you
can find in each Area, per version (no version next to one means it's in both):

CENTER AREA: Nidoran F (Blue), Nidorina, Nidoran M (Red), Nidorino, Parasect,
Venonat, Exeggcute, Rhyhorn, Chansey, Scyther (Red), Pinsir (Blue)
AREA 1: Nidoran F, Nidorina (Blue), Nidoran M, Nidorino (Red), Paras, Parasect,
Doduo, Exeggcute, Kangaskhan, Scyther (Red), Pinsir (Blue)
AREA 2: Nidoran F (Blue), Nidorina, Nidoran M (Red), Nidorino, Paras, Venomoth,
Exeggcute, Rhyhorn, Chansey, Kangaskhan, Tauros
AREA 3: Nidoran F, Nidorina (Blue), Nidoran M, Nidorino (Red), Venonat,
Venomoth, Doduo, Exeggcute, Kangaskhan, Tauros

To catch a Pokemon, refer to the writing after the walkthough.

Basically, the reason you're here is to find the Warden's Gold Teeth and HM 03
(Surf). So, here's the walkthrough, gathering all of the items, and hopefully
within 500 steps (your time limit):

To start out, go all the way right, then up, then right to Area 1. Go right to
the first staircase, then go up them, then go up and pick up the Carbos. Go
back towards the steps and go left, and down the steps at the end. Go up, and
to the small peninsula going into the center pond to get TM 37 (Egg Bomb). Go
left, then up some more to find a Max Potion. Go right, up the steps, right,
down the steps, and right to pick up a Full Restore. Now go up, and all the way
left, to the passage to Area 2. Go left until you can't anymore, then go up to
the raised land and go up the steps, then go left, then down, then down the
steps. Now go left, then up, then righ to pick up TM 40 (Skull Bash). Now keep
going right, then up, then left to find a Protein. Now keep going left, then
all the way down to find the passage to Area 3. Go down and pick up the Gold
Teeth (Yay!), then go left and down to pick up TM 32 (Double Team). Now, go
left, up, and into the house. Talk to the man to recieve HM 03 (Double yay!).
Now, equip it with a Water-type, then leave the house. Go down, and Surf across
the pond. Go down, then right to pick up a Max Potion. Go up the steps, then
right, up a couple steps, then right, then go down the steps. Go left to pick
up a Max Revive, then go right to find a passage to the Center Area. Go right,
and Surf to the island to pick up a Nugget. Then, surf right, then down, then
go out the exit. You should be almost out of time by now. If he asks if you
want to leave, say Yes.

You can always come back and add to your Pokemon collection. I guess you didn't
need that box, unless you want to go straight back in and catch. To catch
Pokemon in the Safari Zone, you aren't allowed to weaken it the normal way. You
must use Bait and rocks to get them ready to throw a Safari Ball, or another
good method is to just keep pitching Safari Balls until it catches. When you
throw a rock, though, the odds are very good it'll run away, so be careful.

Now, you're ready to go claim another prize, and it's time to leave...
===========================================================================
Now that you have the Golden Teeth, go to the house next to the house where you
got the Good Rod. Talk to the Warden inside. By giving him the teeth, he can
talk again, and he'll reward you with HM 04 (Strength). Equip it to one of your
Pokemon, then test it out on the boulder blocking the item on the other side of
his house. Pick the item up. Now, since you have Surf, there are a few things
you need to do. First, stock up on LOTS of Ultra Balls. Plus, if you have a
Poliwhirl, make sure it's in your party and doesn't know Surf. First, fly to...

                                CELADON CITY

Items:
TM 41

Go to the pond in the middle of town. If you need to, use your Super Rod to
fish for a Poliwhirl. Surf across it and talk to the man to recieve TM 41
(Softboiled). Remember, only Chansey (and Mew) can use it. Now, Fly to...

Wild Pokemon:
#025 Pikachu
#026 Raichu (Blue)
#081 Magnemite
#082 Magneton
#100 Voltorb
#101 Electrode
#125 Electabuzz (Red)
#146 Zapdos

Items:
Carbos
TM 33
TM 25
Rare Candy
HP Up

If you are missing any electric Pokemon, this is the place to look. Also, if
you're lucky, you can catch one of the legendary birds, Zapdos. Be aware that a
lot of the item balls are actually Voltorbs/Electrodes in disguise. I hope you
have a Dugtrio or any Ground-type, or this could be a long trek.

First, go forward. Pick up the first item ball for some Carbos. Now keep going
up, then right, then down. You can pick up all the item balls in the first
passage to the right, but they're all Pokemon. Keep going down, all the way to
the bottom, to the small room, then go right to pick up TM 33 (Reflect). Now,
go up, then right through the main hallway. Watch out for the next two item
balls, they are Pokemon. Go down the next small passage, and go left. Pick up
the item ball, it's TM 25 (Thunder). The one to the far right is a Pokemon.
Now, go back to the main hallway and go up, then left a little ways, then up.
On the left side of the room is an HP Up, the right a Rare Candy. Go back to
the main hallway, then keep following it (the rest of the item balls are
Pokemon) until you find Zapdos. Before talking to him, SAVE YOUR GAME!!!!!

To catch Zapdos, have an Electric-type, Rock-type, or anyone that knows those
kinds of attacks. First, use Electric and Rock attacks (preferably Rock Throw
and especially Rock Slide) until Zapdos is down pretty low. Then, bring in a
weak, stupid Pokemon and watch him die. After that, bring in your Pokemon with
Sleep attacks. Odds are, you may have to survive one attack, depending on your
speed. After Zapdos is asleep, and his HP is REALLY low, start pitching Ultra
Balls. After above 2-4 Ultra Balls, Zapdos should be yours! Now, SAVE, then
leave. Now, fly to...

                                FUSCHIA CITY

Go to the Pokemon Center and (if you want to), replace your Electric-type with
Zapdos, then go south of the Pokemon Center to arrive at...

                                 ROUTE 19

Wild Pokemon:
#072 Tentacool

You will need to use Surf to take this route. All the trainers from here back
to dry land are dedicated to Water-type Pokemon. Have Zapdos and maybe another
Electric-type to get rid of them. You should also have your Pokemon with Sleep
with you. After Surfing all the way down, Surf left until you find land. Go on
land, Surf down and defeat the trainer near the cave entrance, then enter...

                              SEAFOAM ISLAND

Wild Pokemon:
#041 Zubat
#042 Golbat
#054 Psyduck
#055 Golduck
#079 Slowpoke
#080 Slowbro
#086 Seel
#087 Dewgong
#090 Shellder
#098 Krabby
#099 Kingler
#116 Horsea
#117 Seadra
#120 Staryu
#144 Articuno

This maze-like cavern holds the second of the Legendary Birds, Articuno. You
will need to use Strength to solve this puzzle. How, you may ask? Follow this
walkthrough and you should have no problem. As in the Safari Zone, the Pokemon
vary by floor. You'll figure it out. Note: You need to do these directions in
the right order, or you may get lost, or miss a boulder or hole. Exiting the
cave resets the puzzles.

First, after entering, go up, then right, and push the boulder into the hole.
Go up the steps, but don't go down the ladder yet. Instead, go up, right, and
down the steps and push that boulder into the hole. Now go down the nearby
ladder and push the boulder into the next hole. Go back up the ladder, then go
to the other ladder and go down it. Go down the steps, then down, right, and up
the steps. Go right, up (Don't go down the ladder yet), right, and down the
stairs to push the boulder down into the hole. Now go back up the steps, then
left, down (Still skip the ladder), left, and down the steps. Now, go all the
way left, then all the way up, and down the ladder. Now go all the way right
and push the boulder down the hole. One more to go. Now, go back left and up
the ladder, then go all the way down, all the way right, up the steps, then
down, up, and (Finally) down the ladder. Now, go down, left, and down, then
down that ladder. Now, go right, down, right, down the steps, then left. To get
one boulder into each hole, first push the boulder blocking the passage to the
left hole all the way left, then push the boulder above the left hole down the
hole. Now, go to the two boulders near the right hole. Push the RIGHT one up as
far as you can, then push the left boulder one space down, two spaces left so
it's above the hole, then push it down the hole. Now, go right, up the
steps, left, up, left, up, right, down the steps, then down the ladder. Go
right, up, right and up the ladder. Go up the last ladder, the go down the
steps and push that boulder into the hole. Now, go back up the steps and down
the ladder, then go down the next ladder. Now, go left, down, left, past the
ladder, go down the steps, and Surf left, then all the way up to Articuno's
platform. SAVE before you talk to him.

To catch Articuno, use a couple Electric attacks to get him down low, then bring
in a weak Pokemon and watch his death. Then, bring in your Pokemon with Sleep
and put Articuno to sleep. Now, bring out the Ultra Balls. After a few tries,
Articuno is yours! Now, to get out, go back to the main platform, and go down
the left ladder. Go up the steps, then left, down, right (Avoid the ladder),
up, right, down the steps, and Surf to the other side. Now, go right, down, and
down the ladder. Just go up the ladders until you reach the exit, which leads
to...

Wild Pokemon:

I hope my Seafoam Island walkthorugh wasn't very confusing, and helped at least
SOMEONE. Anyways, defeat the 6 Water-type themed trainers and Surf left, all
the way to...

Pokemon to Recieve:
#138 Omanyte/#140 Kabuto
#142 Aerodactyl

You probably need to heal, so go straight to the Pokemon Center. While inside,
go to the PC and withdraw your Dome/Helix Fossil and your Old Amber. Now, go to
the Pokemon Mart and buy some Hyper Potions (?!). Now, enter the building to
the left of the Pokemon Center. Go to the far right room. Talk to the guy in
the back, and give him one of your fossils. That's it for now. So, go to the
gym. One problem: the door's locked up tight. Where's the Key? Well, there's
only one building in town you haven't been to, and it's the mansion...

#058 Growlithe (Red)
#077 Ponyta
#088 Grimer
#089 Muk
#109 Koffing
#110 Weezing
#126 Magmar (Blue)

Items:

Carbos
Calcium
Iron
Max Potion
Rare Candy
TM 22
Full Restore
Secret Key
TM 14

If you dig Fire and Poison-type Pokemon, this is the place for you.
Unfortunately, the place is in ruins. A group of scientists genetically
engineered the ultimate fighting machine Mewtwo, from the cells of Mew, the
rarest Pokemon. Unfortunately, Mewtwo, how should I put this, escaped,
destroying the lab in the process. The key to the Cinnabar Gym is in here,
though, so you need to go in. To get around, you must flip the switches on the
statues to open the doors to get deeper into the mansion.

First, walk up the red carpet. Inspect the 5th box from the entrance on the
right side to find a hidden Moon Stone. Then, keep going up, then right, then
up, then right to find an Escape Rope. Now, go up the steps. Go down and
defeat the trainer, then inspect the statue near the steps to flip the switch.
Now, go right, up, and up the lower staircase. Pick up the Max Potion, then go
down the staircase and use the upper one this time. Go down, right, down, then
all the way right, past the statue, to find an Iron. Now, go back and flip the
switch on the statue, then go down, right, and defeat the Scientist. Walk by
him, then go down the staircase and find the Calcium. Now, go back up the
staircase, then fall down one of the edges near the Scientist. Pick up the
Carbos, then go down the staircase to the basement. Defeat the trainer, pick up
TM 14 (Blizzard), then flip the switch and go all the way left for a Full
Restore. Go back towards the switch, then go up, right, down, right, up, defeat
the Scientist, then go up. After going up, go left and go up at the second
passage to find a Rare Candy, then go down, right, and into the other passage
and flip the switch. Go back to the main hallway and go all the way left. Pick
up TM 22 (Solar Beam), then go down and pick up the Secret Key. Now, use your
Escape Rope to leave...
===========================================================================
Before going inside the gym, make sure you have a good Water and/or Ground-type
(2+ is good), and make it back to the Cloning Lab. Go pick up your resurrected
Pokemon, then give him the other Fossil. Now, go to the Pokemon Mart and get a
few Full Heals, then enter the gym...

CINNABAR ISLAND: POKEMON GYM

OK, try to advance past the first trainer here. The door is locked. There are
two ways to unlock it. You can either defeat the trainer, or go to the machine
in the corner and answer a simple question. The choice is yours, but I
recommend defeating the trainers to gain experience. If you want to go straight
to Blaine, use the questions. You can get to him without battling! Since all
Pokemon in here are Fire-type, a Water-type or Ground-type is the best type to
have. Once making it to the upper-left corner, you can battle Blaine...

TRAINER: Blaine

L40 Ponyta- Tail Whip, Stomp, Growl, Fire Spin
L42 Rapidash- Tail Whip, Stomp, Growl, Fire Spin
L47 Arcanine- Roar, Ember, Fire Blast, Take Down
STRATEGY:
I haven't mentioned much about starters for a while. If you have Venusaur,
forget bringing him in, he'll die in a couple attacks. Charizard can defend,
but he'll be reduced to non-Fire attacks. Blastoise will totally obliterate his
Pokemon in 1-2 hits each. If you don't have Blastoise, a Ground or Water-type
will do.
BASICALLY:
Water and Ground are very good here, just don't forget.

For winning, you get the Volcano Badge and TM 38, teaching Fire Blast, the best
Fire attack in the game.

Before heading off again, make sure you have enough Hyper Potions to last a long

VIRIDIAN CITY: POKEMON GYM

Revive

Oh no, you're thinking. More of those tiles from Celadon City. This one is
easier to navigate, but the trainers will annoy you. They are all dedicated to
Ground and Fighting-type Pokemon. Bring a Water-type and a Psychic-type to get
rid of them. To solve this, go up and step on the ^ arrow. After stopping,
step on the < arrow above it. Talk to and defeat the trainer right there, then
step on the > arrow. Step on the v arrow after you stop. Now, go one step
down, the go left, up, left, up, right, down to pick up the Revive, then up,
defeat the Trainer, then go left, up, and follow the rest of the path to the gym
leader...

L43 Nidoqueen- Scratch, Tail Whip, Poison Sting, Body Slam
L45 Nidoking- Tackle, Horn Attack, Poison Sting, Thrash
L50 Rhydon- Stomp, Tail Whip, Fissure, Horn Drill
STRATEGY:
You've probably battled Giovanni already (actually, you HAVE). As you know,
he's dedicated to Ground-types (and he dumped the Kangaskhan! Yay!). Water,
Ice, and Grass are more than a match for Ground-types. Psychic and Ground work
well against Nidoqueen and Nidoking. Rhyhorn and Rhydon will also fall to
Ground-type attacks (yes, Rock are weak against Ground).
BASICALLY:
Water, Ice, Ground, and Psychic help here a LOT (especially Articuno,
Blastoise/Gyarados, Dugtrio, and Alakazam).

STRATEGY:
You know you're getting close to the end. This is a test of your abilities. As
long as your Pokemon are at high levels, this is just like the last few battles
with him. For Pidgeot, use an Electric or Rock-type or those kinds of attacks.
Water, Ice, Ground, and Grass will down Rhyhorn quickly. Now, the differing
part. Electricity works well on Gyarados, Growlithe will fall with
Water/Rock/Ground-type attacks, and Exeggcute will go down to Bug/Fire/Flying
attacks. Alakazam will require physical attacks from your strongest Pokemon
(Fissure works well). For his starter, use Flying/Fire/Bug/Psychic on Venusaur,
Water/Electric (?!)/Rock on Charizard, and Electric/Grass on Blastoise.

Before you lies Victory Road, the last challenge to trainers before they reach
Indigo Plateau. To get through, you must solve another boulder puzzle.
Thankfully, it isn't as complicated as in Seafoam Island. Basically, all you do
is push the boulders onto pressure plates to open the doors. You can also try
to catch Moltres, the last of the Legendary Birds. Now, the second-to-last
dungeon walkthrough I will give (I hate my job). If you ever mess up, just
enter the previous room and come back and the boulder will be reset.

After entering, you'll see a boulder to your left. You need to push it to a
pressure plate not too far away. To do this, push it down 1 step, right as far
as it will go, up 1 step, right as far as it will go, 2 steps up, 1 step right,
and 1 step down. Now, go back to where the boulder was and go up the steps.
You can now go past the door. Go right, up, right, down the steps, right, up,
and left. There are two items here. The upper one is TM 43 (Sky Attack), and
the lower one is a Rare Candy. Push the boulder toward one of them to get the
other, then come back and get the other one. Now, work your way back to the
left-right intersection and go left. Defeat the trainer, then follow the path.
Defeat the next trainer, then go up the ladder. The next boulder you see is
easy. Push it 1 space left, as far down as it will go, then as far left as it
will go. Now, go up the nearby steps and defeat the trainer. Follow the path
on the raised land and defeat another trainer. Now, go down one of the
staircases and go left. You see a pressure plate, but no boulder (?!). You'll
be able to solve it later. For now, just go up from the plate to find TM 05
(Mega Kick). Now, go down, and ALL the way right, then follow the path to the
ladder. Pick up the Full Heal, then go past the ladder and go up, then right.
Defeat the trainer, then pick up TM 17 (Submission). Now, go back to the ladder
and go up it. You'll see a boulder. First, go up, then right. Defeat the
trainer, then pick up the Max Revive. Now, go left, past the boulder, and all
the way left to another ladder (remember to pick up the item near there, which
is TM 47, Explosion). Go up it, defeat the trainer, go right to pick up the
Guard Spec., then SAVE YOUR GAME because Moltres is right there.

To catch Moltres, use a weak Water attack or Rock Throw/Slide to get him down
REALLY low. Then bring in a weak Pokemon and watch him die, then bring in your
Pokemon with Sleep attacks and put Motlres to sleep. Now, start with the Ultra
Balls. After catching him, SAVE, then go back up the previous ladder. Go back
to the boulder, because you need to push it to the next plate. Push it 1 space
up, as far left as it will go, 1 space down, 4 spaces left, 3 spaces down, and 1
space right. Now, go back to where the boulder was, then go left and up the
staircase. Defeat the trainer, then follow the path to the next staircase.
Defeat the two trainers, then follow the path right to the boulder near a hole.
Push the boulder down the hole, then jump down it. Now, push the boulder all
the way left to the pressure plate. Now go up one of the sraircases, then go
right to the ladder. Follow the path until you get outside. Now, keep
following the path, past the statue mini-maze (keep right) until you reach the
double doors, signalling you have made it to...

                              INDIGO PLATEAU

This place is no more than a mini-city: A Pokemon Center and Pokemon Mart in
one. HEAL, get your party ready, and buy LOTS of Full Restores and Max Revives,
and stuff like that. Once you go down the steps to the Elite Four, you don't
return until you have defeated each one or you lose. your Pokemon need to be
around L55-60 if you want a chance. If you are prepared, save right before the
staircase, then go down the steps to the...

INDIGO PLATEAU: ELITE FOUR

The final battle commences. I haven't done this yet, but before I go over the
strategies, I should give my recommendations for a party. Here is a really good
party to take the Elite Four on with:

*Jolteon (Defeats Water, Flying, Rock, Ice, Grass, and Psychic)
Attacks: Thundershock/Bolt, Double Kick, Pin Missile, Thunder
*Kadabra/Alakazam (Defeats nearly anything, except other Psychics, especially
Poison and Fighting)
Attacks: At least Psychic and Psybeam, mix in any other two attacks
*Gyarados/Blastoise (Defeats Fire, Ground, and Rock)
Attacks: Surf, Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam/Skull Bash, Bubblebeam
*Articuno (Defeats Grass, Ground, Flying, Rock, Bug, Fighting, and Dragon)
Attacks: Peck, Fly, Ice Beam, Blizzard
*Two other Pokemon to come along, maybe a Grass-type or Ghost-type

Now, the wonderful walkthrough to make you Pokemon League champion...

ROUND #1
TRAINER: Lorelei
POKEMON:
L54 Dewgong- Growl, Aurora Beam, Rest, Take Down
L53 Cloyster- Supersonic, Clamp, Aurora Beam, Spike Cannon
L54 Slowbro- Growl, Water Gun, Withdraw, Amnesia
L56 Jynx- Doubleslap, Ice Punch, Body Slam, Thrash
L56 Lapras- Body Slam, Confuse Ray, Blizzard, Hydro Pump
STRATEGY:
If you bring the right Pokemon, this will be an easy battle. For Dewgong and
Cloyster, use Electric and Fighting attacks. For Slowbro, use Electric or Bug
attacks. For Jynx, use Fighting or Bug attacks. And for Lapras, use Electric
and Fighting. In other words, Jolteon is a one man army here...
BASICALLY:
If you have a Jolteon, USE IT HERE!
***************************************************************************
After wiping the floor with Lorelei's Pokemon, go to the next room and challenge
the next trainer...
***************************************************************************
ROUND #2
TRAINER: Bruno
POKEMON:
L53 Onix- Rock Throw, Rage, Slam, Harden
L55 Hitmonchan- Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Mega Punch, Counter
L55 Hitmonlee- Jump Kick, Focus Energy, Hi Jump Kick, Mega Kick
L56 Onix- Rock Throw, Rage, Slam, Harden
L58 Machamp- Leer, Focus Energy, Fissure, Submission
STRATEGY:
Another easy match. The two Onixes will fall to Water/Ice/Ground/Grass-type
attacks. Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Machamp will fall to Flying and Psychic
attacks. Putting Ice and Flying together means that Articuno can be a one man
army here. Psychics work well, even against the Onixes.
BASICALLY:
If you have an Articuno or Kadabra/Alakazam, USE THEM HERE!
***************************************************************************
After Bruno's failure, go into the next room and prepare to battle again...
***************************************************************************
ROUND #3
TRAINER: Agatha
POKEMON:
L56 Gengar- Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Hypnosis, Dream Eater
L56 Golbat- Supersonic, Confuse Ray, Wing Attack, Haze
L55 Haunter- Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Hypnosis, Dream Eater
L58 Arbok- Bite, Glare, Screech, Acid
L60 Gengar- Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Toxic, Dream Eater
STRATEGY:
There are a few easy ways to defeat Agatha easily. One, bring out
Kadabra/Alakazam and use Psychic 5 seperate times, and Psybeam to clean up.
Two, bring in a Dugtrio/Graveler/Golem with both Ground and Rock attacks to
clean up here (use Ground on ghosts and Arbok, and Rock on Golbat). If they
don't have Rock attacks, then just use an Electric-type. Very easy.
BASICALLY:
Psychic and Ground dominate this battle.
***************************************************************************
The final challenge awaits! Follow the long winding hallway and talk to the
last trainer to battle...
***************************************************************************
ROUND #4
TRAINER: Lance
POKEMON:
L58 Gyarados- Dragon Rage, Leer, Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam
L56 Dragonair- Agility, Slam, Dragon Rage, Hyper Beam
L56 Dragonair- Agility, Slam, Dragon Rage, Hyper Beam
L60 Aerodactyl- Supersonic, Bite, Take Down, Hyper Beam
L62 Dragonite- Agility, Slam, Barrier, Hyper Beam
STRATEGY:
You may think there are two misprints here. Yes, he does have 2 identical
Dragonairs, and yes, all 5 of his Pokemon know Hyper Beam, so be careful who you
choose. For Gyarados and Aerodactyl, use the basic Electric-type attacks. For
the Dragonairs and Dragonite, use Ice attacks (Rock works well against Dragonite
also). Jolteon and Articuno make a good team here.
BASICALLY:
If you have a good Electric and Ice team, and they can withstand Hyper Beam,
they will work VERY well here.
***************************************************************************
Congratulations, you're the new Pokemon League Champion...or are you?
Apparently, one person defeated the Elite Four before you. Any wild guesses?
One thing's for sure, you have to battle him, AGAIN...

THE POKEMON LEAGUE CHAMPION
TRAINER: Gary (gee, what a surprise)
POKEMON:
*He Chose Bulbasaur*
L61 Pidgeot- Whirlwind, Wing Attack, Sky Attack, Mirror Move
L59 Alakazam- Psybeam, Recover, Psychic, Reflect
L61 Rhydon- Tail Whip, Fury Attack, Horn Drill, Leer
L61 Gyarados- Dragon Rage, Leer, Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam
L63 Arcanine- Roar, Ember, Leer, Take Down
L65 Venusaur- Razor Leaf, Growth, Mega Drain, Solar Beam
*He Chose Charmander*
L61 Pidgeot- Whirlwind, Wing Attack, Sky Attack, Mirror Move
L59 Alakazam- Psybeam, Recover, Psychic, Reflect
L61 Rhydon- Tail Whip, Fury Attack, Horn Drill, Leer
L61 Exeggutor- Barrage, Hypnosis, Stomp
L63 Gyarados- Dragon Rage, Leer, Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam
L65 Charizard- Rage, Slash, Fire Blast, Fire Spin
*He Chose Squirtle*
L61 Pidgeot- Whirlwind, Wing Attack, Sky Attack, Mirror Move

L61 Rhydon- Tail Whip, Fury Attack, Horn Drill, Leer
L61 Arcanine- Roar, Ember, Leer, Take Down
L63 Exeggutor- Barrage, Hypnosis, Stomp
L65 Blastoise- (e-mail me with attacks)
STRATEGY:
If you can defeat the Elite 4, you can defeat Gary's somewhat strong party. For
Pidgeot, use Electric or Rock-type attacks. Alakazam will go down to Bug
attacks (Jolteon's Pin Missile definitely) or strong physical attacks. Rhydon
will fall to Water/Ice/Ground/Grass-type attacks. Now comes the split. For
Gyarados, use Electric-type attacks. Rock, Ground, and Water attacks will
defeat Arcanine. Exeggutor will go down to Bug/Fire/Flying attacks. Now, his
starter. Fire/Flying/Psychic/Bug will eliminate Venusaur. Charizard will fall
to Rock/Water/Electric-type attacks. Blastoise is weak against Electric and
Grass attacks.
BASICALLY:
You have proven yourself a Pokemon Master if you can defeat Gary.
***************************************************************************
If you can manage to overcome Gary's strong party, you will be named the Pokemon
League Champion. Enjoy the short ending!

This cave contains many second-form Pokemon, at L45+. You can either explode
your Pokedex or gain about 1,000 Exp. per fight. You can also catch the genetic
Pokemon, Mewtwo. In standard fashion for many caves/dungeons, the Pokemon you
can catch depends on the floor. In my standard format, I will give a
walkthrough for this area, although I don't think it requires it.

After entering, follow the path to the first ladder and go up it. The path is
easy to follow, just remember while going up to go right to pick up a rare PP
Up. Follow the path up to the ladder. Go down the steps and surf right. Pick
up the Max Elixer while you're there. Go up the next steps and up the ladder,
after picking up the Nugget. This path is REALLY easy to follow, just remember
to pick up the Full Restore on the way. From that ladder, Surf through the
water left to find a Full Restore. Now go back, and follow the path on the
bottom of the screen to the next ladder. This path is a little harder to
navigate, just don't forget the Ultra Ball. At the end, you'll go down a
ladder. Follow the small path to the ladder going to the basement. Go right
after going down the steps to find a Max Revive. Then, just follow the path,
finding another Ultra Ball on the way. Keep following the path until you find a
monster. SAVE YOUR GAME NOW! After saving, talk to Mewtwo to fight. If you
have the Master Ball, just pitch it and catch him. If you don't, use Jolteon
with Pin Missile or other strong attacks to weaken him, then bring in a weak
Pokemon to be killed, then bring in your Pokemon with Sleep and put him to
sleep, then pitch Ultra Balls. I caught all of mine with the Master Ball, so I
wouldn't know.

Now that you have Mewtwo, go catch or trade for the rest of the Pokemon you
need. After that, go to Celadon City and go inside the mansion the normal way.
Go up to the Game Freaks, Inc. level and talk to the guy not on a PC to recieve
your prize, a pathetic diploma (in Japan, you get MEW!). Now, the game is over.

Here it is, a complete listing of all 151 Pokemon. The abilities for each
Pokemon are listed at the end of the Ability List section. Thanks to Nintendo
Power's Player's Guide, I can list what TMs and HMs each Pokemon are compatible
with. The Found is divided into (R/B) (found in both versions), (R) (only in
Red version), and (B) (only in Blue version). The found is where it can be

Now, more ability lists. This time, I will list when each Pokemon learns an
ability. Each chart will contain the first form Pokemon, and include all of its
evolutions and when they learn abilities. Thanks to Nintendo Power's Player's
Guide for this info. Blank spots mean that Pokemon doesn't learn that ability.
Dotted spots mean that Pokemon already had a chance to learn it or knows it
already. I also had to edit the info here a little bit, to make sure confusion
is at the minimum.
