This FAQ was created for all those people out there who want to play a game, but don't want to wait a year until the game is released in America. In this early version of the FAQ I will provide a walk through for the FF8. Note that this FAQ will be updated as I get further in the game. I will try to give explain plot points to the best of my knowledge. The Journey to the Fire Cave! Squall will awaken in the infirmary. He has just been injured by Seifer, his rival while training. The nurse will have a brief chat with you about your injury and being more careful. She will call Quistis, your teacher, while a strange girl looks into your room. You will then see a FMV of Quistis walking through the doors. Once you can move, simply follow Quistis until you reach the class room. Quistis will tell the class today's agenda(The SeeD exam is today, if they pass it, students will be become full fledged SeeD members. After the class dismisses, talk to Quistis(she will have a group of kids around her). She will tell you that you are to go find a new Guardian Force, Ifrit. Go back to your seat and activate the tutorial. Watch it and you may get a slight idea how to use the junction system. Walk outside and proceed to the Elevator. A strange girl will bump into you. You will be given two choices of what to say. Pick the first one. A brief dialog will follow and she will ask you to show her around. Talk to the guy standing by the elevator. He will give you some cards that his little brother gave him. You can play cards with someone by going up to them and pressing the square button. Enter the elevator. When you exit it you will be on the first floor of the SeeD building. It will cut to a scene of what looks like one of the directories in a mall that tells where the stores are. Squall will tell the girl about all of the locations. If you happen to know the language, I suggest you listen :), otherwise read the following: THE SeeD SCHOOL! The SeeD school is actually laid out in a simplistic manner. It is clock shaped, with passages leading to all the rooms. Here is a brief diagram: 1 8 2 7 E 3 6 4 5 1. This is Squall's room. Go here to recover and change clothing when needed. 2. This is the Parking Lot. I take it you go here when you need to deploy cars..? 3. This is what I believe to be the training room. It is like a big jungle and you can be attacked. APPROACH WITH CAUTION!!! 4. This is the cafeteria. 5. This is the exit of the SeeD school and leads to the entrance. NOT THE WORLD MAP 6. This passage way leads to what appears to be a stage of some sort. 7. This leads to the infirmary 8. E The E stands for the Elevator You should get fairly used to the layout of the school in a little bit. When your done looking around head to the exit and walk through the little doorway that says 'OUT'. I know, it may be obvious, but I didn't see it at first. As you proceed, you will eventually find Quistis. Proceed to the world map. Once you are on the world map, head to the east. You will see a little cave to the east, this is where you want to go. If you get lost don't worry, because you are stuck on a little island with only one other location than the cave and the SeeD school. Once you arrive at the cave, you will be on a little walk way. Proceed forward and talk to the guards in front of the cave. They will ask you if you are ready to enter. Select the first response, which is 'yes'. Now, the guards will ask how long you want the time limit to be inside the cave. Even if you are a seasoned RPG player, I highly reccomend you choose 40 min. This is because you need to fight a boss and he has a lot of life and takes a while to beat. Once inside the cave just keep going along the path. There are no mazes and the whole thing is pretty linear. Make your way to the room with the pig pillars and the flaming hole in the floor. During you whole little 'cave trip' Quistis will be saying stupid things like "All my students always do their best when I'm around". Anyway, one you're in the room Ifrit will come out of the hole and attack you. !!!!BOSS FIGHT!!!! Congratulations, you made it to your first boss! But don't get all excited yet, you still have to beat him! Be sure you equipped all your Guardians. I highly suggest that your battle menu looks like this: Attack Item GF Draw You might want to give Quistis a Magic instead of Item if she has any spells stored that could be useful. DItto with Squall. But you always want someone who can use items, just incase you need to heal (Potions) or Revive (Phoenix Down). Alright, the most important thing to remember when fighting Ifrit(and all the enemies in the cave for that matter)is never use fire! It will only heal him(them) and make the battle longer. Use your Guardians to attack Ifrit and the battle should be pretty easy. He has a bit of life though, so it may take a while(I bet you wished you had chosen 40 minutes instead of 10, huh hotshot?). Take down Ifrit and he gives you the power to summon him in battler. Congratulations! If you're reading this you probably beat Ifrit! If not, then what are you doing? Get your butt back in the game! NOTE: Some of you might remember Ifrit and Shiva from FF7. They look much cooler now, don't they? Anyway, fight your way back to the entrance and the guards will compliment you on a job well done. Return to the SeeD academy and get ready for your final exam: A FIGHT AGAINST GALBADIAN SOLDIERS! Part 2: The Final Exam! The Battle at the Dolem Dukedom! Return to the school and Quistis will depart from your party. She will tell you to meet her in the lobby(remember that room like a clock? That's the lobby.) First return to your room and change into the SeeD uniform. Do this by going next to your bed and hitting the action button. When you get to the lobby you will be introduced to your partner, Zell Dincht. Zell will be introduced in an awesome FMV of him doing karate in the hallway. Quistis tells you 'He's uh, a lively boy!' Squall responds with '..You mean he's annoying.'. Zell introduced himself and Squall gives him the cold shoulder. Zell begins to comment about their 'mutual hate' for Seifer(that blond guy who gave you that nice ol' battle scar? "It's only a flesh wound". Yeah, sure it is.) Just as Zell begins to go off about how much about he hates are blond haired bud', Quistis gives him the exciting news that their Squad leader will be none other than, you guessed it, lovable old Seifer! Quistis calls out Seifer and he comes by with his "groupies" Fujin and Raijin. Seifer and Zell share some kind words which involves Seifer calling Zell a chicken punk. He's not quite the friendly type. Just as Zell as the verbal fist fight gets good, are lovable principal CID shows up. Now, you all know by now that Cid has been in every FF game to date, and this time he's the principal. Really puts the PAL in principal, huh? Cid briefs are happy threesome on what their to do, he also tell them that even if they die, the SeeD soldiers accompanying them will do the job. No pressure, no pressure. After your nice chat with Cid, you follow Seifer to a van and your off to kick some Galbadian butt. While in the van Zell keeps asking Squall if he can see his Gunblade. Squall doesn't respond and calls Squall a bastard. He stands up and practices some karate and Seifer tells him to sit down and shut up. You arrive in the port town and happily proceed to the docks. Here simply follow your buddies onto the ship. Inside you will be briefed. Here's the scoop: The Galbadian Army invaded the Dolem Dukedom a few hours ago. The Dolem Dukedom sent a help message to the Garden and they sent some SeeD recruits to check it out. The mission is to go in and wipe out enemy soldiers. You are also to keep them from activating the communications tower. Easy enough, huh? After the briefing Seifer will 'command' you to go up and check out the situation. Once you go up to the decks you'll be greeted with an FMV. Now unless you've been living under a rock for the last year you have probably played the FF8 demo. This is the demo, but is slightly modified to fit the game. For those of you who have not played the demo, read on, for those of you who have, skip this part. Once you arrive on shore just follow Seifer. You will be attacked multiple times before random encounters begin. Follow Seifer until you come to the town square. You will stop and Seifer will tell you to look for enemies. In the upper right hand corner(by the car) there is a soldier who you must kill. Kill em' and go talk to Seifer. You'll wait a bit and Seifer will comment on being bored. Talk to Zell, who is pacing around. After that you will see the dog bark and some Galbadian troops will march around the corner. Follow the troops and you'll go up a hill. You will be attacked by some monsters and such, nothing big. Continue up the hill until you come to the hill above the tower. You will be introduced to a new character named Selphie. She is part of Squad A(you are with Squad B)and is a messenger. The characters will babble and Seifer will run off. Follow Selphie down the hill(the first choice is to jump). She is now part of your party. Eventually you will see a scene of Biggs and Wedge arguing. No real relevance. Wedge says he saw a monster. When you come up the elevator the tower will activate in a cool FMV. Biggs and Wedge will attack you. FIght them off for a little while and a huge monster will attack all of you. It's time for another boss. Fight this one off using you Guardians, as you did with Ifrit. One minor note though, you might want to keep one character open to heal with potions, this guy can be a pain. After you slay the beast, proceed down the tower. SAVE. Once you get outside, Biggs will activate a huge crab monster that will chase you. Fight off the crab with Guardians and heal every now and then. When he falls over, run away. The crab only has a few attacks that really hurt you so be weary. Continue the same way you came until you get to the streets. The crab will chase you the whole way and you'll have to fight him 4 to 5 times. Once you get to the streets, keep going. You'll eventually see a way cool FMV which ends with Quistis pumping the crab full of led. Congratualations, you just passed. When you return to the port you'll have a brief chat in which Quistis congratulates you and Seifer is his normal asshole self. Fujin and Raijin come to greet Seifer and they take the van back home, leaving you, Zell, and Selphie to find your own way home. Doh! Just walk up the paths. You might want to stay at the hotel(first choice, the one with the 100 in it)for 100g. After you rest, go to the screen with the dude sitting on the bench. He'll talk with Zell and ask him how he's doing. The two are apparently familiar. Go over to the right side of the screen and enter the second little hole. It's Zell's house! Talk to Zell's mom and she'll comment about not having many visitors and how nice it is that Zell brought some friends over. Try to go to Zell's room(up the stairs)and he tells you it's 'sacred territory, y'know?'. Yeah, we know :). Continue to leave town and follow the road back home. Part 3: Squall Falls in Love! Dancin' the Night Away! When you return go to the lobby and talk to Cid. He will tell you nice job, blah, blah, blah. After his little speech, go to the right and talk to Seifer. Cid tells blondie that he was not accepted into SeeD(he failed the exam)because he did not use good teamwork. Seifer fumes. Go to the elevator and go upstairs. Talk to everyone and eventually CId will come up. He will inform everyone that Zell, Selphie, and Squall passed the test and are now official SeeD troops. Everyone else failed :). Our heroes are happy, everyone else gives a snap and a stomp on the floor. THe game cuts to the awards ceromony. After that, go to the second floor and everyone will clap. It should be night time now and you should go, or be in, Squall's room. Change into your SeeD uniform(isn't it pretty?). Talk to Selphie and leave. You will be in a big ball room now. Zell will talk to you and you'll shrug him off. While drinking you catch a glimpse of a lovely girl. You will first talk to Quistis for a while. An awesome FMV of Squall dancing with the girl in blue will follow. Afterwards, you will return to your room. Change back into leisure clothes and go to the training room. Quistis will meet you in the hall. Follow the left door passage until you get to the glowing door. Go through it. You will be on a balcony and will talk to Quistis for a while(I have no idea what is going on). After you leave, continue to the right. At the end of the passageways you will see a girl getting attacked by a huge dragonfly. Fight the dragonfly. He's very easy. Just use Guardians. You will go to bed. Part 4: TrAiN TrIpS! The Mysterious Laguna Loire! When you wake up make your way to the lobby, then to the screen right before the world map. Cid and Selphie will be waiting. You begin speaking and Zell comes ripping in on a cool airboard. Just as he finishes his entrance CId tells the guards to confiscate the board(a very funny scene) Cid gives you your first mission as SeeD agents. All I know is that it involves trains. After your briefing go to the world map and walk to the Sea Port. On the screen with the guy sitting on the bench go all the way to the left. There will be a train station there. Walk inside and get in the train. You and your party will chill on the train for a little and proceed to your room. Zell will chat, and suddenly Selphie walks in. She appears sick. She passes out on the couch and so does Zell. A annoying beep goes off and you get sent into a pscho trip a la Cloud from FF7. Before you know it you are controlling a group of three Galbadian soldiers. The leader of the group is Laguna Loire. HE is accompanied by two soldiers who are really cool. Simply follow the path in the grass till you come to the truck. You'll have to fight off lots of creatures before you get to the truck. The truck will pull into town. Get out of the truck and head down. You will see a hotel with 'Galbadia' on it. Go inside. Once inside the hotel, head down the stairs on the right side. Talk to the waitress standing in the center of the screen. You and your buddies will sit down and chat. Eventually a girl will start playing the piano. Go talk to her and you'll pretend to stub your foot. Go sit down when she finishes her song. As soon as your friends go to the bar go upstairs and talk to the guy at the desk. You will go up to the hotel room and chat with the piano girl again. The scene will eventually fade.... Part 5: Choo Choo! Offrail Adventures! When your party awakens you will once again control Squall and Co. You will eventually get off the train and be at a huge train station. Head down and watch the guy almost get hit by a train, very funny. You will get on that train. You'll chat with a bunch of people who seem scared, then one guy will just go and continually puke in the corner. Confused? I was. Go through the door at the top of the screen and save. Keep going up until you meet up with the blue dress clad girl. She will hug you and you will chat. She will tell you her name(Rinoa)and you'll meet her dog. Go back to the main room and everyone will talk. Evenytually you'll be led into a room with the puky guy and his friend. He will explain something about trains to you and it will show the same stupid animation of trains hooking together about 20 times. You will be prompted to enter numeric codes at one time. Look for the corresponding buttons. What's the point of this mess? To steal an engine from the Galbadian army? Why? I don't know. Alright, talk to the puky guy's friend. He'll ask you if you're ready, the top choice is yes. The scene will cut to your party and Rinoa on top of the train. Follow Rinoa until she makes you stop and the code thing starts. Here's what's going on: THE TRAIN GAME! The way this works is that you are trying to unhook the train car from the rest. You do this by jumping down and putting codes into a little device that looks like a calculator. Rinoa will tell you the code and you have to hit the corresponding buttons on the controller. Sounds easy enough right? WRONG. Galbadian soldiers are patrolling the cars and if they see you, you lose. The way you do this is you hit down to jump down. Rinoa will tell you the code and so forth. Hit L1 to look over to the left. If you see the soldiers walking towards you, hit up and you will return to the top of the train. Keep doing this until the car unhooks. You will have to do this again after you finish the first one. Overall, it's pretty easy. After you're done you'll be inside the train. Save. That's all for now. Please watch out for updates! Later, otaku!
