Final Fantasy 4 Item List By Ragnarosen (ragnarosen@hotmail.com) Original "Backwards" Version by Barubary (barubary@dal.net) ------------------------------------------MADD PROPZ------------------------------------- Madd Propz go to: Barubary (barubary@dal.net), for making the first version of the chart Mannyd (mannyd@hotmail.com), for teaching me how to use hexadecimal code and running probably the most comprehensive FF5 site Break Point Software (http://www.bpsoft.com), for their "Hex Workshop" program RPG Classics (http://www.rpgclassics.com), whose FF4 Game Shrine provided me with much of my information RPGamer (http://www.rpgamer.com), still the #1 site for RPG info and news J2E Software (http://members.aol.com/j2etrans), for making the uncut translation of FF4 Zophar's Domain (http://www.zophar.net), the one-stop video game emulation shop And, of course, Squaresoft (http://www.squaresoft.com), for making the game that made me buy the SNES ------------------------------------------HOW TO USE------------------------------------- We all remember playing FF2 for the SNES: laughing our butts off at Tellah's "spoony bard" comment, wondering what the heck a "portent" was when Prince Edward gave his Antlion speech, aimlessly wandering around gaining enough experience points so Rosa would finally learn the "Float" spell and your party could now enter the Cave of Monsters. We all remember trying to figure out why there weren't any normal human beings in the town of Silvera, and using Nintendo Power Maga- zine's "Double Your Arsenal" trick over and over and over again until we had 99 Crystal Swords to throw at the final boss. Ahh, those were the days. We would spend hours and hours sequestered in our bedrooms playing this game, never blinking, never sleeping, never stopping to go to the bathroom. Man, life was great then. What would you say if there was a way to play FF2 on your personal computer? What if there was a way to save your game's progress anywhere with the mere push of a single button? What if you could fast forward through the boring scenes by holding the right button of your mouse? And what if there was an all-new version of the game, filled with suggestive dialogue, adult language, and references to Quentin Tarantino movies (Cid: Yo Kainazzo! I'm gonna go medieval on your ass with a silver hammer!)? Dream no more, my RPG-crazed lunatic friends. Now there's a way to play console video games on your computer! All you need is Windows 95 and a Pentium or better, a program called WinZip, and a lot of time on your hands. First, download a Super Nintendo emulator (preferably ZSNES915) from Zophar's Domain. Then, download an FF4 English translation patch and the SNESTOOL program, also from Zophar's Domain. Finally, go to a search engine and run a search on "ROMS" until you find a website that has a ROM of "Final Fantasy II." The ROM will be in ZIP form, so use WinZip to decompress the archive and receive the ROM in its usable (*.SMC) form. Once you've downloaded everything, go to Windows Explorer and put SNESTOOL, the FF2 ROM, and the FF4 translation patch in the same folder. Open SNESTOOL and select the command "apply IPS." Attach the patch file to the ROM file, and you've got the new version of FF2! Now open ZSNES. To choose from a list of ROMS, select the folder that FF2 is currently in. If you do it right, you'll see the "Final Fantasy IV" logo. -----------------------------------------DIFFERENCES------------------------------------- The translated-from-Japanese FF4 is changed considerably from the American FF2. Parts of it are considerably more difficult. For example, you can't buy Ether Potions in towns anymore. And the Heal Potion, which cures almost every status ailment, has been replaced by a host of more expensive specialized items such as "Anti- dote," "Eyedrop," etc. (See the Item List below for a full list.) Many of the monsters' names have been changed. You'll first notice this when you step outside of Baron and fight a group of Goblins instead of a group of Imps. Also, Prince Edward's name has been changed to "Gilbert." When trying to equip Cid with a shield, or trying to use a Poison Axe or Avenger Sword, instead of giving you the enigmatic message of "To equip," the game will say "To equip, use both hands." Finally, a whole new area has been added: the Programmer's Room! Anyone who has played "Chrono Trigger" would be familiar with this place: you actually get to meet the Squaresoft staff behind the game. Random battles with Kiyoshi Yoshii, Hiromi Nakada, or Kazuhiko Aoki may occur. If you win, they might drop some, heh heh, "unique" items. And Takashi Tokita will even (temporarily) join your group! To find this odd place, look for a secret door between the weapon and armor shops' counters in Dwarf Castle. Once in the HOWDY SALOON, look for an invisible passageway in the southeast corner of the room. Go down the stairs, and you're there! Just try to stay away from the books they have down there... ------------------------------------------GAME GENIE------------------------------------- ZSNES has a built-in cheat code generator that uses codes from Galoob's Game Genie (TM) and other game enhancers. Inputting codes for FFIV is easy. Just type them in and press "Enter" when finished. Here are some of the best FFIV codes that I have gathered from RPGamer, GameFAQs, and www.galoob.com. 03CAE6BD: Your characters are invincible. No HP loss at all. Turn this code off when fighting a boss, or the boss will be invincible as well. 038532BD: Your characters have an infinite amount of MP for using magic. Again, turn this code off when fighting a boss. 7E359363: Gain about 6 million experience points at the end of every battle. After a couple of battles, you should reach Level 99 and have colossal stats. -------------------------------------------HACKIN'--------------------------------------- To alter the contents of your item list through hacking into your save state (or *.ZST file), you'll need to go to Break Point Software (http://www.bpsoft.com) and download a program called "Hex Workshop." Once you're finished downloading and the program is finished running SETUP.EXE automatically, open Hex Workshop and use it to open any FF2 ZST files you may have. Go to Offset #2053, where the hexadecimal coding for the item list begins. Type in the Hex Code Number for the item that you want (for example, Elixir is "D3") and then type in the amount of the item that you want (for example, 99 is "63"). To start with 99 Elixirs and 99 suits of Adamant Armor, input this code at Offset #2053: "D3639A63" Below is a comprehensive list of every single item in FF4 and its corresponding hex code to use with Hex Workshop. Remember this: Item Number First, Item Quantity Second. It's highly unlikely that you'll use anything other than 63 for the item quantity modifier. Heh heh heh... Who needs the Gunslinger code when you have something even better? Now, YOU GOT THE HOOK-UP!!!!! The three numbers under the "Power" column represent Attack, Defense, and Magic Defense, respectively. The numbers are taken from Barubary's chart; Ragnarosen is not responsible for any typographical errors. ------------------------------------------EQUIPMENT-------------------------------------- Hex Name Type Power Effects 01 FireClaw Claw 0/0/0 Fire Elemental 02 IceClaw Claw 0/0/0 Ice Elemental 03 Thunder Claw 0/0/0 Lightning Elemental 04 Charm Claw 0/0/0 Adds "Charm" 05 Poison Claw 0/0/0 Adds "Poison" 06 CatClaw Claw 1/0/0 Adds "Sleep" 07 Rod Rod 3/0/0 *Casts "RuneShot" 08 IceRod Rod 5/0/0 Ice Elemental, Casts "Ice-1" 09 FlameRod Rod 7/0/0 Fire Elemental, Casts "Fire1" 0A Thunder Rod 10/0/0 Lightning Elemental, Casts "Lit-1" 0B Change Rod 15/0/0 0C Charm Rod 30/0/0 Casts "Charm" 0D Stardust Rod 45/0/0 Casts "Comet" 0E Lillith Rod 13/0/0 Casts "Psych" * "RuneShot" Causes light non-elemental damage to one enemy 0F Staff Staff 4/0/0 Casts "Heal" 10 Cure Staff 8/0/0 Casts "Cure1" on group 11 Silver Staff 12/0/0 Casts "Heal" 12 Power Staff 33/0/0 Adds "Berserk" 13 Lunar Staff 36/0/0 Casts "Dispel" (not in USA version) 14 Life Staff 48/0/0 Casts "Life1" 15 Silence Staff 52/0/0 Adds "Mute" 16 Shadow Dark Sword 10/0/0 Adds "Blind" 17 Darkness Dark Sword 20/0/0 Adds "Blind" 18 Black Dark Sword 31/0/0 Adds "Blind," "Death" 19 Legend Knight Sword 40/0/0 Holy Elemental 1A Light Knight Sword 100/0/0 Holy Elemental 1B Excalibur Knight Sword 162/0/0 Holy Elemental 1C Fire Sword 65/0/0 Fire Elemental 1D IceBrand Sword 75/0/0 Ice Elemental 1E Defense Sword 105/0/0 +6 Defense 1F Drain Sword 45/-1/0 Absorbs damage as HP 20 Ancient Sword 35/0/0 Adds "Curse" 21 Slumber Sword 55/0/0 Adds "Sleep" 22 Medusa Sword 57/0/0 Adds "Stone" 23 Spear Spear 9/0/0 24 Wind Spear 55/0/0 25 Flame Spear 66/0/0 Fire Elemental 26 Blizzard Spear 77/0/0 Ice Elemental 27 Dragoon Spear 99/0/0 28 White Spear 109/0/0 Holy Elemental, Casts "Holy" 29 Drain Spear 88/-4/0 Absorbs damage as HP 2A Gungnir Spear 95/0/0 2B Short Ninja Sword 25/0/0 2C Middle Ninja Sword 32/0/0 2D Long Ninja Sword 40/0/0 2E Ninja Ninja Sword 49/0/0 2F Murasame Ninja Sword 54/0/0 30 Masamune Ninja Sword 65/0/0 31 Assassin Dagger 30/2/0 32 Mute Dagger 35/0/0 Adds "Mute" 33 Whip Whip 20/0/0 Adds "Para" 34 Chain Whip 30/0/0 Adds "Para" 35 Blitz Whip 40/0/0 Lightning Elemental, Adds "Para" 36 Flame Whip 51/2/0 Fire Elemental, Adds "Para" 37 Dragon Whip 56/2/0 Adds "Para," 2x hit on Dragons 38 HandAxe Axe 35/0/0 39 Dwarf Axe 62/0/0 3A Ogre Axe 80/0/0 3B Silver Dagger 20/0/0 3C Dancing Dagger 26/0/0 3D Silver Sword 50/0/0 3E Spoon Dagger 0/0/0 Can't use.
