Welcome to THE Final Fantasy IV FAQ! v1.0, by Dan Orner (omegaonyx@geocities.com) http://start.at/centerworld/ ----------CONTENTS---------- I. Manual II. Skills and Magic III. Status Problems IV. Tips V. Walkthrough VI. Items VII. Weapons VIII. Armor IX. Shops X. Monster list (incomplete) XI. Game Genie Codes XII. Credits ----------------------------- First, a note about the game and then a note about the FAQ. Final Fantasy IV was released in North America as Final Fantasy 2. Although most of the game is the same, the original Final Fantasy IV was much more challenging than the version released in NA. (For a complete list of changes, and I do mean COMPLETE, check out Ian Kelley's FAQ at http://members.aol.com/j2etrans/ff4faq.txt .) However, thanks to the work of some very nice people, the original FF4 is now available in English! You will need three things to play this game: 1. An SNES emulator (I recommend ZSNES at http://www.zsnes.com/ ) 2. The Final Fantasy IV ROM (I got mine at http://homepages.go.com/~snesrox4/final_fantasy_ 4-jap.zip ) 3. The J2E translation patch (available at http://members.aol.com/j2etrans/ff4.html ) One thing: throughout this FAQ I will be referring to items, monsters etc. in the following syntax: Item'sGivenName (Item'sFullName). What I mean is that due to space considerations, item names have been condensed into (sometimes horrible) contractions. The real name (IMO) of the item is in the parentheses. Anyway, let's go! ----------I. Manual---------- For those unacquainted with the game, here are the controls: -----In towns, castles, dungeons, etc.: A: talks to people, reads signs, etc. The "action" button. X: opens menu. L or R: switches lead character. This doesn't change anything but the appearance of your character. -----In shops: First press A on 1 or 10 to go to the item list. Press A on an item to buy it. If you want to buy a number other than 1 or 10, go to 10 and press up or down until you reach the desired number. -----On the map: X: opens menu. L or R: switches lead character. -----On the menu: A: accepts. B: cancels. -----In battle: A: accepts. B: cancels. Right: selects "Defense". Left: selects "Row", which switches the rows. Front row goes to the back and vice versa. L + R together: Tries to run away. A note about rows: There are five positions in your party; the characters can be switched using the "Form" menu command. Each position by default has a front/back position; there are originally 3 front row positions and 2 back rows. Unlike other FF's, you can't change it so all characters are in one row. You CAN switch the rows' designation (change to 2 front and 3 back) by choosing "Change" on the menu. ----------II. Skills and Magic---------- Magic will be dealt with at the end of this section. -----DWave (Dark Wave): Used by Cecil. An attack which hits all enemies for a fairly low amount of damage, but also takes off 8-9% of Cecil's HP. Takes a very little time to set up. -----Cover: Used by Cecil. Makes Cecil continually protect his allies from physical attacks. After use, changes to "Off"; using that takes off the effects of "Cover". Note that Cecil ALWAYS Covers characters who are low on HP once he becomes a Paladin. The only difference made by using "Cover" is that he will protect even the ones who are not low on HP. -----White: Uses white magic. -----Black: Uses black magic. -----Call: Uses summon magic. -----Jump: Used by Cain. It takes a little time to set up, but Cain jumps up (he cannot be attacked when he does this) and soon after comes down on an enemy for some nice damage. -----Recall: Used by Tella. Notice that he doesn't know a lot of magic for a great sage? That's because he's forgotten a lot of it. Using Recall uses a random magic spell (black or white) from his forgotten spells. MP use is normal. -----Pray: Used by Rosa. Attempts to cast a Keal spell on the party (less than 100 HP recovery per person in a 5-person party) without any MP cost; doesn't always work. -----Aim: Used by Rosa. When equipped with Bow and Arrows, raises the accuracy and strength of the shot. -----Boast: Used by Palom. Raises magic power a bit. -----Tears: Used by Porom. Makes running away easier. -----Twin: Used by Palom and Porom (both must be healthy). It takes quite a while to set up and uses both their turns; it releases one of two powerful magic attacks, Flare (uses 10 MP from each of them and hits one target) or Comet (uses 20 HP and hits all targets). -----Sing: Used by Gilbert. Depending on the harp equipped, he will sing a song which does various effects to the enemy (sleep, confuse, etc.) -----Heal: Used by Gilbert. Takes one Potion and spreads it out to the entire party. Kind of a waste, since one Keal spell can do the same thing with better effects. -----Hide: Used by Gilbert. He will leave the battlefield, but will still gain experience from the battle. You should use this when he's still a weak character. This command changes to "Show" once he's hidden; using it makes him come back into battle. -----Peep: Used by Cid. Takes a look at enemy stats; doesn't work for bosses. -----Build: Used by Yang. Takes a long time to build up a powerful attack against one enemy. Kind of pointless, because it does the same amount of damage just using regular attacks would in the same amount of time. -----Kick: Used by Yang. Takes a little time to set up, but hits all enemies with weak to moderate damage. -----Endur (Endurance): Used by Yang. Raises his defense by a small amount. -----Ninja: Used by Edge. Uses Ninja magic. -----Sneak: Used by Edge. Steals an item from an enemy. Sometimes if it doesn't work, he loses a very small amount of HP. Can steal infinite times from the same enemy in the same battle. -----Dart: Used by Edge. Throws a weapon or dart from your inventory. Usually does quite a bit of damage. -----Spirit: Used by FuSoYa. The party's HP gradually recovers. Note that he cannot move for the rest of the battle when he uses this! -----MAGIC----- Syntax: Magic spell (full name - optional) (MP Cost) (targets) To switch the target from a single target to the entire party, press the cursor behind the last member of the party. In other words, in a normal battle, press left a few times to target the entire enemy party. -----White Magic (healing/effects magic; raises strength with the Will stat) ---Keal (3MP), Keal2 (9MP), Keal3 (18MP), Keal4 (40MP) (One/all): Restores increasing amounts of HP. Can be used against undead monsters for damage. ---Sight Can only be used on the map screen. Shows you a bit of a larger view of the map. Completely useless once you have the Airship. ---Mini (6MP) (One/all): Toggles on/off Miniature status. ---Bersk (Berserk) (18MP) (one): Makes target Berserk. ---Raise (8MP) (one): Heals target from Wounded status with minimal HP. ---Arise (52MP) (one): Heals target from Wounded status and restores all HP. ---Rabur (1MP) (one): Sees enemy stats and weaknesses. Will not work on bosses. ---Rflct (Reflect) (30MP) (one): Reflects magic spells away from the target so it hits someone in the opposite party. ---Esuna (20MP) (one): Very useful spell! Restores target from ALL status problems. ---Silnce (Silence) (6MP) (one): Gives target Mute status. ---Hold (5MP) (one): Gives target Stop status. ---Conf (Confusion) (10MP) (one): Gives target Confusion status. ---Slow (14MP) (one/all): Gives target Slow status. ---Haste (25MP) (one ally, all enemies): Gives target(s) Haste status. ---Blink (8MP) (one/all): Gives target(s) Blink status. ---Levita (Levitation) (8MP) (one/all): Gives target(s) Float status. ---Telep (Teleport) (10MP) (none): Takes party out of a dungeon or escapes from non-boss battles. If it doesn't work, there's still an event which needs to happen before you exit. ---Holy (46MP) (one): Powerful Holy attack spell. ---Shell (10MP) (one/all): Raises target's protection against magical attacks. ---Protc (Protect) (9MP) (one/all): Raises target's protection against physical attacks. ---Displ (Dispel) (12MP) (one/all): Removes any status-changing spells cast on target (Shell, Rflect, etc.) -----Black Magic (attack magic; raises strength with the Wisdom stat) ---Fire (5MP), Fire2 (15MP), Fire3 (30MP) (one/all): Increasingly powerful fire-elemental attack magic. Useful against ice-elemental enemies and undead creatures. ---Blizrd (Blizzard) (5MP), Blizd2 (Blizzard 2) (15MP), Blizd3 (Blizzard 3) (30MP) (one/all): Increasingly powerful ice-elemental attack magic. Useful against fire-elemental enemies. ---Thund (Thunder) (5MP), Thnd2 (Thunder 2) (15MP), Thnd3 (Thunder 3) (30MP) (one/all): Increasingly powerful lightning-elemental attack magic. Useful against water creatures and flying enemies. ---Pois (Poison) (2MP) (one/all): Causes HP Down status in target; does not work on undead. ---Piggy (1MP) (one/all): Toggles Piggy status on/off on target. ---Toad (7MP) (one/all): Toggles Frog status on/off on target. ---Break (15MP) (one/all): Adds Petrify status to target. ---Sleep (12MP) (one/all): Gives Sleep status to target. ---Stop (9MP) (one/all): Paralyzes target. ---Quake (30MP) (all enemies): Strong earth-elemental attack magic. Flying creatures are immune to it. ---Drain (18MP) (one): Drains HP from enemy to caster. The lower the caster's HP is, the more HP he/she will gain from this spell. If used on undead, the effects will be reversed. (DON'T DO IT!) ---Aspir (0MP) (one/all): Drains MP from enemy to caster. The lower the caster's MP is, the more MP he/she will gain from this spell. ---Bio (20MP) (one/all): Magical attack which also gives target HP Down status. ---Dejon (4MP) (none): Teleports one room back in dungeons; also can be used to escape from battles. ---Tornd (25MP) (one): An all-or-nothing Wind attack which depletes the target's HP into single digits. Misses often. ---Death (35MP) (one): All-or-nothing non-Elemental attack which either destroys the target or misses. ---Flare (50MP) (one): Very powerful Fire-elemental attack. ---Meteo (99MP) (all enemies): Most powerful attack spell. Takes a very long time to set up and damages everyone. -----Summon Magic (attack magic; raises strength with the Wisdom stat) Nearly all Summon Magic is used against all enemies (no single targets or allies) and cannot be reflected. ---Chocb (Chocobo) (7MP) (all enemies): "Kick" Non-elemental attack. ---Dragn (Dragon) (20MP) (all enemies): "MistBrth" Either holy or non-elemental attack; haven't really found out. *^_^* ---Titan (40MP) (all enemies): "Anger" Earth-elemental attack; useless against flying enemies. ---Shiva (30MP) (all enemies): "SnowStrm" Ice-elemental attack. ---Ifrit (30MP) (all enemies): "Hellfire" Fire-elemental attack. ---Ramuh (30MP) (all enemies): "Judgment" Lightning-elemental attack. ---Asura (Ashura) (50MP) (all allies): "Ashura" Random effect - either casts Raise on all allies, Keal4 on all allies, or Protc on all allies. ---Levia (Leviathan) (50MP) (all enemies): "Big Wave" Water-elemental attack. ---Sylph (25MP) (one enemy): "Whisper" Drains HP from enemy and gives to ally party. ---Odin (45MP) (all enemies): "IronSwd" All-or-nothing non-elemental attack; either destroys target or misses. ---Baham (Bahamut) (60MP) (all enemies): "M.Flare" Most powerful summon spell; non-elemental. ---Mind (MindFlayer) (18MP) (one enemy): "Mindblst" A strange attack; kind of weak. Supposedly gives paralysis and HP Down to target. Can only learn this by getting the MindFlay item that the MindFlayers drop (they can be found in the Dark Elf's Cave Of Power). ---Cockt (Cockatrice) (15MP) (one enemy): "StonBeak" Turns one enemy to stone. Can only learn this by getting the Cockatric item that the Cockatrices drop (they can be found in Mt. Hobs, the Fabul area, or the Mysidia area). ---Bomb (10MP) (one enemy): "Destruct" Fire-elemental attack on one enemy. Can only learn this by getting the Bomb item that the Bombs drop (they can be found in Mt. Hobs, the Fabul area, or the Mysidia area). ---Goblin (1MP) (one enemy): "Punch" Physical attack against one enemy, kind of weak. Can only learn this by getting the Goblin item that the Goblins drop (they can be found in the Baron, Fabul, and Mysidia areas). -----Ninja Magic (mostly attacks; raises strength with the Wisdom stat) ---Katon (15MP) (all enemies): Fire-elemental attack. ---Siton (20MP) (all enemies): Water-elemental attack. ---Rajin (25MP) (all enemies): Lightning-elemental attack. ---Kagsh (5MP) (one/all): Paralyzes target. ---Bushn (6MP) (one/all): Gives target(s) Blink status. ---Kemur (10MP) (none): Escapes from normally unescapable battles (except boss battles). ----------III. Status Problems---------- Permanent status (remains after battle): Mute: Cannot cast spells. Cure with EchoHerb. Poison: HP goes down with every battle turn and every step taken. Cure with Antidote. Blind: Regular attacks miss frequently. Cure with EyeDrop. Mini: Attack and defense go way down. Cure with Aprntice or the Mini spell. Frog: Attack and defense go way down and cannot cast spells. Cure with MaidKiss or Toad spell. Piggy: Speed goes down; cannot cast any spell but "Piggy". Cure with DietFood or the Piggy spell. Cursed: Attack power goes way down. Cure with Cross. Float: A good status change, it keeps Quake spells from harming the character; also prevents harmful floor squares (e.g. Sylph Cave) from hurting character. Must be re-cast every time you enter another room or staircase. Stone: Cannot move or attack. If all characters turn to stone, the game is over. Cure with Gold-Pin. Wounded: Basically dead. If all characters are wounded, the game is over. Cure with FenixDown, or the Raise or Arise spells. Temporary Status (disappears after battle) Confusion: Cannot be controlled. Will use any skill against any member of either party; tends to do opposites, though (heals enemies and hurts allies). Any regular attack will cancel this status. Blink: Good status. Enemy regular attacks will miss. Usually lasts 2-3 hits. Reflect: Usually good status. All magic spells (including cure spells!) will be reflected off onto the opposing party. Cannot reflect a spell which has already been reflected off the opposing party. Lasts for a limited time. HP Down: The result of special enemy attacks, your HP will decrease even though you are not poisoned. You cannot cure this! Sleep: Cannot move or attack. Lasts for a limited time. Slow: Takes longer to be ready to attack. Haste: Good status. Takes less time to be ready to attack. Stop/Paralyze: Cannot move or attack. Wears off after a fairly long time. Petrify: Slow stone. If you wait long enough (or if the spell is re-cast) the target will turn to stone; otherwise, no ill effects. Berserk: All stats are up by about 10%, but character cannot be controlled. Death Sentence: A timer appears; when it reaches 0, the character dies. ----------IV. Tips---------- 1. Item Conservation! a) You only have a limited space for items. You can either sell items you don't need, or give them to the Chubby Chocobo. (To do this, buy or find a Veggie, then go to a Chocobo Forest and press A by the big empty space. Then use the Veggie.) Don't keep any excess status recovery items like Apprentice, Maidkiss, etc. Usually you don't need them; and even if you really need them, the Esuna spell works very well. There's almost always someone in your party who knows this spell! b) Sell all defunct weapons and armor. For example, if you already have Mithril equipment, sell all the iron ones. Sell or give away more or less anything you don't need which can be bought in stores. c) Buy lots of items at a time (see the Stores part of the manual) so you don't clutter up your inventory screen. d) Use the apples, SomaDrops, and PornoMag as soon as you get them. 2. Tents! You will always find at least one save point in a dungeon. Because of this, use Keal spells instead of healing items whenever possible. (If Rosa's in your party, have her use the Keal spell instead of Cecil; her spells are about three times as effective!) When you get to the save point, use tents. Stock up on LOTS of tents; remember that even using 4 tents is cheaper than 1 cottage. You can have 99 tents at once, and they're very cheap! 3. Item Duplication! A must-have trick! This can only work with items in a character's right and left hands. Start a battle. Now select Item. Press A on an empty space in the inventory window. Now press Up all the way until the character's equipment is displayed. Press A on the item you want to duplicate. Now run away from battle. Now open the menu, go to Equip and select the character which held the item before. Re-equip the character with that item and there will be a 2 next to it! Now de-equip and re- equip it, and it will have split in two! 4. Keep magic users and people with low defense in the back position. 5. Always have Rosa use her Aim attack. 6. If you find that you have trouble with a certain boss, you may have to raise some levels. Find a convenient save spot or town and fight monsters there until you raise three or four levels. Remember that there's still a lot of luck in these fights! 7. If you find a town with better stuff than you have at the moment, and you don't have enough money to buy it, fight the monsters around the town to get more money and then buy the new stuff. It's essential! 8. Always stock up on at least 40 arrows at a time. 9. Be strategic in the elementals - use the correct weapons against the correct enemies: Fire against undead and ice enemies, ice against fire and mechanical enemies, lightning against water and air enemies. 10. Keep an eye on HP, especially those of weaker characters. Heal after almost every battle. 11. Attack quickly! The battle clock is more merciless in this game than other FFs. 12. Move the -Sort- option to the top of the item list; it's annoying to have to scroll all the way down all the time. 13. Never run from battles unless you're sure you're going to die. 14. Always check pots, chests and drawers. 15. Talk to everyone. 16. Items in chests are sometimes guarded by monsters; be careful! 17. You can switch items in battle by choosing "Item" and then pressing Up. Be strategic! 18. Keep trying! 8-) If you're still stuck, e-mail me at omegaonyx@geocities.com . ----------V. Walkthrough---------- By bellybutton21@hotmail.com; edited by me. Four things were changed: Spelling/grammar, changing item/monster names to suit FF4, some boss strategies, and spoilers were taken out! Note that the original walkthrough was written for FF2, and as the items are different in FF4 (especially the Medicines), the item info may be inaccurate. Besides for the Medicines, though, the items seem to be more or less accurate. One more thing - most of the monster names (besides the bosses) will be inaccurate because I do not have a list on hand of the FF4 names. If anyone wants to write down the exact items found in the chests and e-mail me, PLEASE DO! *^_^* THE NIGHT BEFORE THE JOURNEY After the introductory scenario you can talk to Cain if you want. Now head down into the next room; on the right side of the screen is a door with a switch that will open a room with three treasure chests. One has 300 Gil, another one has a POTION, and the other is a TENT. Now head to the left side. After that just head towards the stairs. In this room you'll have a scene with Rosa. For now just continue on. Once you're outside, head for the tower on the left side above you. Before you can reach the tower, Cid, the Chief Engineer of Baron, sees you and wishes to talk to you. Hear you'll get a brief history about Cid. You can choose to explore the rest of the Castle if you want but you won't get very far due to the fact that the guards around the Castle of Baron will not let you through unless they have the King's orders. Once you reach the tower a maid will be standing in front of your room to tell you that your sheets were made. When you're in your room just go up to the bed and the room will darken and Cecil will take a rest. During the middle of the night Rosa will come to Cecil. The next morning, Cecil and Cain start off on their journey. TOWN OF BARON Once you're outside: to the sides of the Castle of Baron is the Town of Baron. Inside here there really isn't much to do except talk to the people and gather information if you want, but right now it's not neccessary. The door on the left side of town is locked; the doors leading to the Weapons and Armors shops are also locked. You can't unlock them now, but what you can do is go buy some items for your long journey ahead. What I would recommend is buying two TENTS and buying three POTIONS. You really don't need to buy exactly what I say because the battles ahead really aren't that hard, and if you want to stock up on more items you can fight battles outside. Those battles really won't give you much experience, but they can give you some nice Gil. Also, there is a training room in this town; if this is your first time playing an RPG I suggest you get to know the basics first, so that it can help you advance further into the game without much hassle. Also notice one of the students telling you that Lightning damage is weak towards water opponents. Once you're done, head north. Pass the bridges until you see a cave. DANGERS LIE AHEAD IN THE CAVE OF MIST You'll notice that when you check your status that both Cecil and Cain are at level 10. Cain has to gain nearly double the experience points to gain a level than Cecil has to; I'm not sure why. You can gain levels by fighting monsters inside the Cave of Mist if you want. If you do, stay near the entrance and once you're outside use a TENT to heal your wounds. If you're too weak to fight any more battles hold the L & R buttons down at the same time during battle to escape from battle. Once you have reached the entrance of the cave you can save the game if you want. When you're all set to go, enter the cave and take the right side to find a ladder. In this cave you will also notice a fog or mist of some sort surrounding the cave that gives the cave a white transparent look. Be sure to collect the treasure chests in here as there are two POTIONS and two MEDICINES. Occasionally when you advance deeper into the Cave of Mist, Cecil and Cain will hear a voice telling them to go back. Don't worry about it, just keep advancing through until you're near the exit. Once you've reached near the exit, the mysterious voice that is talking gives you a second warning to leave. Don't bother to listen, just keep advancing. Once you've reached the exit, the mysterious voice will ask you one more time if you want to leave. If you choose "No" you will not be able to advance but if you choose "Yes" you will initiate a fight with the Summoned Monster. BOSS FIGHT: Mist Dragon HP: 400 This boss fight shouldn't be too hard but I'm here to help in case you're stuck! First off just continue to attack the mist having Cecil pound the Dragon with his regular attacks and having Cain Jump the Dragon. When the dragon turns into mist, DON'T ATTACK! It'll counterattack with a nasty spell. Either select defense, or use POTIONs during this time. Wait until it reforms to attack again. Repeat this process until you have defeated the Mist Dragon. By now Cecil should have easily gained a level and don't be surprised if Cain doesn't. Once you're done, head out of the Cave of Mist and save the game before entering the town of Mist. Before you enter the Town of Mist, make sure you deequip Cain! After you have saved the game enter the Town of Mist. THE PACKAGE REVEALS ITSELF! A rather long scene happens now. In the only fight, don't waste any money as you're meant to die. 8-) When you get back to the map, you'll notice that the mountains are caved in blocking your way back to Baron. TO THE DESERT TOWN OF KAIPO After the scenario head towards the town of Kaipo which is found on the south side of an oasis in the middle of the desert. Go to the inn to continue the scene. BOSS FIGHT: OFFICER AND THREE BARONGUARDS HP: 30(BaronGuards) 120(OFFICER) Well this battle shouldn't be too hard, I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to use the word hard at all! You can choose to take down the Officer if you want, but mainly focus your attention on the BaronGuards. If you take out the BaronGuards first that means the Officer will just retreat. However if you do manage to take down the Officer along with the BaronGuards you will recieve a significant amount of experience points. Rydia will join you now. She's at level 1 with very little HP and MP. At first she doesn't know any WHITE or BLACK magic but later after gaining a level or two she will learn some basic BLACK and WHITE magic. Afterwards, head towards the northeast side of the town of Kaipo and in the room you'll find Rosa, who is serverely sick and can barely speak. She has an extremely high fever and the only thing that can cure her condition is the Desert Light located in the cave of the Antlion. For now, head outside and look for a weapons shop. By a Bow for Rydia and about 25 Iron Arrows. In the armor shop you do not need to buy anything because Rydia is equipped with all the armor the store has to offer, but if you want, buy the extra LEATHER HELM for now. When you're done, leave the town and head northeast towards a cave. Now is a good time to save your game. SEARCH FOR THE DESERT LIGHT Once you have reached inside go up and take both treasures in the treasure chest which is a MEDICINE and POTION. Now head to the left side and you'll see an old man near the end of a bridge. First take the treasure chest below you which is a TENT and talk to the old man. He will tell you that a Bard has tricked his daughter into running away with him at Damcyan, coincidentally where Cecil and Rydia are headed to find the Desert Light to heal Rosa's high fever. Afterwards Tella the Sage will join your party and he will need the help of the Black Sword to defeat the monster that dwells in the waterfalls. Surprisingly Tella's stats are higher than Cecil's. Tella's knowledge of both BLACK AND WHITE magic should help back up Rydia as she is just learning her magic potiential. However this is just the icing on the cake because Tella has lost most of his knowledge of the stronger spells. Also Tella's MPs are pretty high as of now, but even if you gain him levels his MP will not rise. He is at level 20 with about 340 HP, but he cannot attack very well with weapons. Continue on but don't forget the treasure chest to the right, you'll need to enter the waters to retrieve the treasure chest. Inside the treasure chest is an IRON RING. Equip it on Tella and also the Leather Helm you bought earlier at Kaipo. Now continue on back and make your way to the next room. In this next room head up and you'll have to walk in the water again (which is harmless) and then make your way to the left side and pick up yet another POTION. Now continue along down and take the next ladder. To the left of this room is an ETHER. Afterwards just make your way to the room to the left side. Here in this room, Tella will use a TENT, so you won't need to worry about using one of your own. Here you will see Rydia sleeping and Cecil and Tella have a quiet conversation. After the little scenario you will be given the chance to save. When you head out of this save room, continue on and don't forget to take a look inside the treasure chest to the right to pick up an ICEROD. Afterwards make your way through to the middle of the room and enter through. In this next room there really isn't much here except for a POTION; however, you will see some regions of the room that are oddly shaded with a black color. Go through that region and go towards the right. On the right side is a FEATHER CAP. It's hidden but at the same time its not hidden because its kinda conspicuous that the area is shaded. (NOTE: This is only true for the NA version! There are no special shades in the original FF4! Sorry!) 8-LEGGED OBSTACLE Once you enter this cave just keep going right. There are only two treasure chests in this room. One is an ETHER and the other one is another HADES equipment for Cecil. Equip the new piece of armor and continue on. Also in this room are only two treasure chests. Both of them contain HADES equipment for Cecil, equip those on and head towards the middle of the waterfall to engage in the battle that was foretold by Tella the Sage. BOSS FIGHT: OCTOMAMM HP: 1400 Although there are eight parts to OCTOMAMM he is still only going to be one target. At first OCTOMAMM can attack rather fast, but as you start to attack he will begin to slow down. Here have Rydia attack with her CHOCB summon (you can use THUND if you have it, but CHOCB is stronger), and have Tella attack with THUND. Cecil's attacks should do quite a bit of damage against OCTOMAMM, probably about 130 HP of damage with each hit. As you continue to attack you will notice that each leg of OCTOMAMM dies, so I think that every 150 HP you lose OCTOMAMM he will die, except for his last leg which is about 350 HP. This boss fight shouldn't be too hard and when you hear Tella saying that you have slowed down the monster you're about near victory. After the boss fight, head through the waterfall and onto your next destination, the Castle of Damcyan. It's not a bad idea to save here after your battle with OCTOMAMM, but don't bother using a TENT. UNEXPECTED SURPRISE BY THE RED WINGS Before you reach the Castle of Damcyan the Red Wings come out of nowhere and bombard the castle reducing it to a pile of rubble. Here just enter the castle. Midway through you will see a room full of treasure chest, all of them are already opened except one on the top of the room, open that treasure chest to obtain a TENT and continue on towards the center of the castle of Damcyan. Upon entering the castle you will see the remains of the once beautiful castle of Damcyan and also the downed guards. Once you have reached the center of the castle you'll see a rather long scenario. Once you're outside you can get off your Hovercraft by pressing the A button and re-entering the castle. If you have bothered to talk to the guards you'll notice that one of them said that a recovery pot is above, the guard that told you that was in the same room you got the tent. Once you've reached inside the middle of the castle you'll notice that all the dead guards are gone. The pot on the left will completely heal your party members and also reverse any negative status effects. The pot to the left will completely restore your MP. Once you're done head out to your Hovercraft. THE ANTLION'S CAVE AND THE DESERT LIGHT >From Damcyan go northeast through the shallow rocks and you should find another part of the continent. When you reach this place you will see Mt. Hobs; don't bother going in. Now head down into the cave below. You should save right now because the enemies inside are pretty strong. Inside here there are several treasure chests. To the left side of the cave is a POTION and 190 Gil, to the right of the cave is 210 Gil and a POTION. Towards the bottom left of the cave is a TENT and a POTION yet again. After you have collected the six treasure chests, head down to the bottom right. In this next room you will find your first FENIXDWN of the game in the treasure chest below. The door next to it contains Gilbert's strongest harp, the LAMIA HARP. Equip it on Gilbert because it doubles his attack power. Afterwards ignore the obvious hidden area below you and go up towards the door; the treasure chest above the door contains a MEDICINE. Go into the door. When you're in the next room go into the door and you will see a save point and three treasure chests. Collect the FENIXDWN, ETHER, and the TENT from the three treasure chests and save and heal your wounds if any. Now continue back to the room before and head to the left side to pick up 250 Gil and head towards the center of the room and into the Antlion's nest. Rhere is basically nothing in here except for the DESERT LIGHT. Just head towards the center of the room and you will see Gilbert stop. He will casually take try to take the DESERT LIGHT from the Antlion but the Antlion snaps and attacks. BOSS FIGHT: ANTLION HP: 1000 ITEM: DESERT LIGHT This boss fight is fairly easy, but a few mistakes can cost you. Here the Antlion attacks are nothing to worry about because they only do 1 HP of damage, but watch for the COUNTER attack. There isn't much you can do about this because each time you attack him with a Physical attack he will counter. Each one of those counter hits are about 21 HP of damage which can be very serious towards Rydia and Gilbert because Gilbert starts out at level 5 with 60 HP and three shots can easily wound him. But Cecil's attacks are too strong to pass up so just have Cecil constantly attack the ANTLION, have Rydia use her CHOCB summon and Gilbert be the healer and part time attacker. Once your HP starts to drop below 40, you should consider using POTIONS to help keep your HPs up. After a while you should be rid of the ANTLION and obtain the DESERT LIGHT. Afterwards you should head out of the cave and back to the desert town Kaipo. With your newly aquired Hovercraft you can reach the desert town of Kaipo rather easily by going all the way to the west side and you will see shallow rocks that the Hovercraft can travel by. RETURN TO THE DESERT TOWN OF KAIPO Here return to the house you saw Rosa in earlier. When you enter here talk to Rosa and your item box will appear; hit the "A" button over the DESERT LIGHT to use the DESERT LIGHT on Rosa. She will awaken and a scenario will begin. BOSS FIGHT: WATERHAG HP: 60 Here Gilbert must fight this battle alone. Anna will help guide Gilbert towards victory as Gilbert should be able to easily conquer this battle. Just have Gilbert constantly attack and the WATERHAG should be gone. Before you leave make sure you stock up on a good amount of Arrows for Rosa and Rydia (if you have bought Bow and Arrows for Rydia earlier). Rosa starts off at level 10 with 150 HP, but her defense is still weak so keep her in the back row. Now head back to Mt. Hobs via the Hovercraft; it's northeast of the Antlion's nest. THE JOURNEY OF FABUL THROUGH MT.HOBS After the short scene, continue on towards the mountain. When you first see a door, take the door and you will be on the side of a mountain with a save point and four treasure chests; they contain a TENT, POTION, MEDICINE, and 350 Gold. Save your game and heal your wounds if any and continue on back to the right side of the mountain. Also take a chance to look down at the valley below, despite it being 16-bits it looks quite breathtaking doesn't it? Now head to the Summit and you will see a Karate Master being attacked by a group of monsters. The Karate Master easily dismantles them, but the MOMBOMB comes after him. The party realizes that it will be a difficult battle alone and they decide to help. BOSS FIGHT: MOTHER BOMB HP: 3200 Now this is what I'm talking about! 5 against 1! Despite your overpowering numbers this is still going to be a very difficult fight. Have Rydia use her CHOCB summon, have Cecil attack normally, have Rosa use her AIM command, have Yang attack (not Kick), and have Gilbert be your part time attacker and healer. After you do about 1500 HP of damage the MOTHER BOMB will change form; just continue to attack and if your party's HP drops below 75, heal them. The MOTHER BOMB will give you a warning when its about to explode, that is the sign to heal yourself if your HP is below 75. When it does Explode the party suffers extensive damage - about 50-60 HP of damage to every character - quickly heal your party because your party's HP (besides Cecil) is still pretty low. Now it turns itself into 3 BOMBs and 3 GREYBOMBs. That's 6 targets for you to attack now. Each one of the targets only have 100 HP and this time have Yang use his KICK command to attack all the BOMBs at once; then continue your usual attack pattern. After the little scenario go towards the east side of the mountain and continue on. There are no treasure chests along the way. Once you have reached outside, keep going east and past the mountains to find the Castle of Fabul. Here save and use a TENT just in front of the Castle before entering the castle. DEFEND THE CASTLE OF FABUL NOW!! Here once you get inside keep going and you will see a Weapons/Armor shop to the right and the INN is on the left side. Go buy Yang an extra claw of your choice, buy Cecil all the available DEMON armor, helmet, and gloves. Sell any Black and Hades equipment you may have and continue on towards the center of the castle. Here you will approach the King of Fabul. After a short scene, the King will ask you if you want to help defend the castle. If you choose "no" then you will be given time before the battle; if you choose "yes" the battle will begin. Here you will only be a party of three, so Cecil, Yang, and Gilbert are the castle's main defence and Rosa and Rydia will be the healers of the wounded people of Fabul. Here the three take stand at the entrance of Fabul as they prepare for battle. Also make sure you can keep your HP during the middle of the battle because the battles keep going on and you will not be given time in between to heal yourself or your party members. Here after first battle defeat the FIGHTERS and ignore the General. After this first battle the RED WINGS of Baron attack the castle and the party does not have any defense against the airships so they must retreat back into the castle (lousy cheaters!). The next battle is a WEEPER, IMP CAPTAIN, and a WATERHAG. During these battles use Gilbert as your healer in case your party's HP is low. The next battle will occur with the two FIGHTERs and a GENERAL, once again ignore the General and kill the fighters. Here the party has to fall back. The next battle is against the GARGOYLE, which shouldn't be too much trouble. Afterwards keep a close check on your party's HP and await the next battle. It's a battle against a WEEPER, WATERHAG, and an IMP CAPTAIN again. The next battle is against the two FIGHTERs and the GENERAL. Once again take out the two FIGHTERS and continue on. Your party's HP should be pretty low right now, so make sure you heal first before you attack. Another scene plays out now. THE TOWN OF MYSIDIA AWAITS Ignore the people here because they will turn you into a Pig or Toad to avenge the death of their friends. Just in case you did not listen to me, talk to the person who cast the spell on you again and you will be changed back into your normal form. Now head towards the center of the town and talk to the Elder of Mysidia. After the scenario go to the Weapons shop and buy Porom about 60 HOLY ARROWS and buy Palom a FlameRod. Also buy Palom and Porom all the Gaea equipment you can buy and head out. When you're out here head towards the east. It's a long walk to Mt. Ordeals so make sure you have enough healing supplies as well. Also Porom the White Wizard starts out at level 10 with 110 HP while Palom starts at level 10 with 100 HP, so you might want to consider some level gaining before you head on. CONFRONTATION AT MT. ORDEALS After the scenario continue on but don't forget to pick up two POTIONs. Also monsters here are in the undead category, so make sure you have plenty of HOLY ARROWS and have plenty of MP to use FIRE magic. In the 3rd screen you will once again meet up Tella, who joins your party. Now continue on and in the next area be sure to pick up an ETHER and another ETHER. Continue onto the Summit and you will reach a save point. Save your game and heal your wounds. When you encounter the bridge you will face off against Scarmiglione, the Emperor of Earth. BOSS FIGHT: SCARMIGLIONE and FOUR REVENANTS HP: 2500(SCARMIGLIONE) 120(REVENANT) This fight will drain you down quite a bit. Here have Palom use his FIRE2 spell against everybody and have Tella use his FIRE spell as well. Always have Cecil attack Scarmiglione. Use Porom as your healer. Also keep your HP up above 50 for the twins, above 100 for both Cecil and Tella because SCARMIGLIONE can and will use his Thund spell serveral times in a row: this is enough to weaken your party. Afterwards you should be rid of Scarmiglione. NOTE: PALOM MUST BE AT LEVEL 14 TO LEARN FIRE2. For now do not continue to go forward, but go back to the save point and save your game. Also don't forget to heal your wounds. Here switch the rows of your party members, putting Cecil in the back and Palom, Porom, and Tella in the front. Now continue onto the bridge, but just as you try to reach the end of the mountain Scarmiglione once again attacks you. This time he back-attacks you but luckily you switched rows. If for some odd reason you did not listen to me, you can switch rows during the middle of your battle by hitting the direction pad left on your command box. BOSS FIGHT: SCARMIGLIONE HP: 3000 Here this battle shouldn't be too hard. Attack Scarmiglione with Cecil constantly, Scarmiglione will have alot of trouble harming Cecil because Cecil is in the Shadow Armor. Have Palom use FIRE2 and Tella use FIRE. Porom should be the healer and if your party's HP is not low then let her attack with the HOLY ARROWs. This battle shouldn't be that hard. Afterwards continue on, towards the cave of Mt. Ordeals. Don't bother healing yourself after this next battle because after this next event your party will be fully healed. BOSS FIGHT: DARK KNIGHT HP: Infinite Just let the DARK KNIGHT attack Cecil three times and the DARK KNIGHT will be gone. After the scenario, the party leaves Mt. Ordeals. When you're heading out, take a few battles to earn Cecil some levels. After one battle you can find Cecil gaining 5 levels! Once you leave, outside you can save and use a TENT if your HPs are low. You do not have to take that long walk back to Mysidia because there is a small square shaped forest surrounded by another forest just south of Mt. Ordeals. Inside is a Chocobo Forest. Look for the fast moving White Chocobo, each time you talk to it, it will refill your entire MP. Also look for the large gap at the north part of the village and press the "A" button and it will smell like a Chubby Chocobo. Use a VEGGIE if you have bought one and a Chubby Chocobo will appear. There really isn't much to do here because all the Chubby Chocobo will do is just store your items. So in case all your 46 slots are filled in your Item Box, you can store your items here. Now talk to one of the yellow Chocobos and you will be able to ride it. Return to Mysidia, you really don't have to ride on a Chocobo; you can just walk back if you want. THE LEGEND OF MYSIDIA IS TRUE! Just go to the middle of the town and talk to the Elder. After the scenario, make sure you buy all the Paladin equipment for Cecil. They are quite costly but if you had fought every battle you encountered along the trip you should have had more than enough. Also buy some equipment for Tella because he is poorly equipped. Afterwards head for the Devil's Road (in a house at the right side of town) and continue your way to Baron. DE-THRONE THE KING OF BARON When you arrive here you will be at the town of Baron, make sure you go to the Inn first, but before you go in, check the pot to the right outside of the Inn to collect a POTION and collect the items in the stored room inside the Inn. The switch is the two crossed swords; you should get a POTION, MEDICINE, and a FENIXDWN. Afterwards talk to Yang and the guards around him will attack you. BOSS FIGHT: BARONGUARD HP: 200(each) This fight won't take long, but the attacks of the BARONGUARDs can be pretty damaging. Also watch out when they try to cast MINI on one of your party members, quickly use Esuna or Apprentice. They can attack very powerfully; even if Cecil has all of his Paladin equipment they can still do about 100+ HP of damage. Try to finish them off as quickly as possible. BOSS FIGHT: KARATE HP: 3000 This fight can be pretty hard, but with Tella's newly aquired magic you should even things up. KARATE will always use his KICK command; it will do quite a bit of damage to all your party members. Have Tella attack with THND3, Palom attack with FIRE2, have Cecil attack with his normal attacks and have Porom be your healer. Quickly dispose of KARATE so that you do not suffer extensive damage. After the scenario, use the BARON KEY to unlock the weapon and armor shops. Yang is poorly equipped so buy him all the neccessary equipment, and you might need to fight a few battles outside town before you go on. After you are done go to the left side of town and you will see a locked door; unlock it and enter. RAID ON THE CASTLE OF BARON VIA THE OLD WATERWAY Once you enter here the enemies are quite strong, but luckily you listened to me and bought all that equipment for Yang right? When you first enter here go to the bottom of the waterway and collect three treasure chests which contain a HI-POTION, FENIXDWN, and an ETHER. Now make your way to the top of the room and enter through the stairway. In this next room you will find a hidden path at the bottom: go through it to pick up a HI-POTION and a FENIXDWN. Continue on to the next hidden area and make your way to the center of the room to recieve a FENIXDWN. Continue onto the next room to the right. In this next room you will find an ETHER; after you have taken that proceed to the next room. In this next room immediately head for the door and in there you will find a save room. To the right side is the ANCIENT SWORD. Do not bother equipping it on Cecil because its a bit weaker than Cecil's current sword. Now proceed outside and onto the moat of the castle of Baron. BATTLE WITH THE KING OF BARON HIMSELF Here when you are outside keep walking to the left and at the bottom left hand side of the castle is the entrance to the castle. In case you were left hurt during those battles in the old Waterway you can rest in Cecil's room in the left tower. If your not hurt from those battles in the Old Water Way then proceed right and head towards the King's Throne Room. Before you reach the King's throne room there will be a short scenario and a boss fight. BOSS FIGHT: BEIGAN, RIGHT ARM, LEFT ARM HP: 2700(BEIGAN) 250(ARMS) This fight will leave you wounded, so you must make quick moves. At any given time BEIGAN will set up RFLCT on himself but not his arms. Note that the arms will not disappear when the body is destroyed! If Palom is at Level 19 have him cast BIO on BEIGAN which will do about 1200 HP of damage. Also when BEIGAN does set up RFLCT have Tella cast RFLCT on any other party member and have your magic user focus their magic attack on your party member with the RFLCT. Don't do it too often because the RFLCT can only bounce back attacks about two or three times. Quickly eliminate the ARMs because that is what's causing most of the damage against your party. Continue to attack and after a while BEIGAN will lose his RFLCT, have Palom use BIO to finish him off, but only when you know he has lost his RFLCT, otherwise it will be a gamble. Or you can have Tella use BLIZD3, FIRE3, or THND3. After the battle you might want to return to Cecil's room and heal yourself before continuing on towards the King's throne room. Now head towards the King's Throne room which is on your way. Before you head anywhere, go to the right and take the staircase. Then you will be outside the castle; continue on to the next staircase. In this next room you will notice a hidden door. Use the "A" button to switch open the door (the switch is on the left torch), enter through the hidden area and collect six treasure chests. The items inside the treasure chests are ETHER, another ETHER, HI-POTION, a FENIXDWN, another FENIXDWN, and finally a HI-POTION. After that go outside the castle and go under the gate and into the tower. In this room are two staircases to the right and left and four treasure chests. The treasure chests contain a POTION, a MEDICINE, a TENT, and a another POTION. If you enter the staircase and then re-enter the staircase, you should stop right in front of the treasure chest. up there. Now take the left staircase going down and check the second pot from the left to recieve an ELIXIR. Don't advance any further because a mysterious force will push you back and you will lose some HP if you do go near the mysterious force. Now take the right staircase to collect a HI-POTION and a FENIXDWN. The next room is full of treasure chests and pots; however there are only three treasure chests that are accessible to you because the others are already opened or out of your reach. The treasure chests contain two TENTs and an ETHER. Also check the pots for another ETHER. Afterwards head towards the King's Throne Room (I've said that three times already). BOSS FIGHT: CAIGNOZZIO HP: 4000 This boss fight is extremely easy, if you know what to do. Have Palom use his BIO magic attack to easily wipe away 1000 of his HP, then have Tella use THND3 to cleanly dust off about 3000 of his HP. If he is not dead by that then just keep attacking him until he's nothing but plankton. After the lengthy scenario, land your airship in front of Baron and return to the King's chambers in the basement below. Remember the place with the mysterious force? It's gone now so enter it and watch the short scene. Now head back to your airship and fly towards Toroia, which is northwest of Baron. Cid starts out at level 20 with 788 HP, so he can be put in the front. He can do quite a bit of damage even though he carries a WOODEN HAMMER. ONWARD TO THE CASTLE OF TOROIA AND THE CRYSTAL OF EARTH Enter the castle of Toroia. For now keep going towards the center of the castle and meet the eight Clerics who govern the country of Toroia. Talk to the eight Clerics of Toroia and they will give you some info. Now head out and take the right staircase and take the path down towards the door. Inside this room you will find three staircases. The middle one contains an ETHER, the staircase to the left contains a lady guarding the door to the secret treasure of Toroia (you don't have permission to obtain those treasures yet) so take the right staircase and you will be in a room with eight treasure chests. First flip the switch in the middle of the room by standing on it, and take the two treasure chests on the left which are both TENTS, then take the next two treasure chests which are both HI-POTIONs, then the next treasure chests which are both ETHERs, and then finally the last two treasure chests to the right, both contain RUBY RINGs, keep the RUBY RINGs for now, even though they are a lot weaker than your SILVER RINGS. Now head back to the 1F of the castle of Toroia and take the left staircase, and head towards the door on the bottom. In this room you will find an old friend. Now leave the castle and head north of the castle of Toroia, which is the Chocobo's village. Here is home to two Black Chocobos that have the ability to fly and land on forests. Talk to a Black Chocobo and head towards the cave which is northeast of the Castle of Toroia and southeast of the chocobo's Village. Remember to have BOTH non-metallic and metallic equipment on hand. THE DARK ELF'S CAVE LEADS TO THE CRYSTAL OF EARTH Here in this cave the metallic seal goes into effect. Yang can use his Claws, Tella can go with his Magic, and Cecil should have a Bow and Arrow equipped. If you want, you can just run away from battles in this area until you face off against the Dark Elf. Now continue on to the wooden bridge. Take the right path to collect the HI-POTION and continue on keep going until you find the next ladder (pick up the treasure chest to the left to collect a MEDICINE) and enter through the ladder. In this next room take the right path and collect the ETHER. Continue onto the the northeast corner of the room to find a white door, enter it and in the room are two treasure chests: an ETHER and 500 GIL. Now head to the left and enter the ladder. In this next area you will see a door to the left which is a save room, go ahead and save your game and heal your wounds if neccessary. Now keep going and in the room below is a FENIXDWN, a X-POTION, and a HI-POTION. Now head out and continue onto the left past the bridge. Take the path in the middle and enter through the door. Here a treasure chest is straight above you - a FAIRY CLAW for Yang. Equip it and move onto the left. In this next room which is B4F, take the bridge to the left. When you reach an area with a bunch of candles take the right path across the bridge and you will be gievn yet another chance to save. Save your game and head out now head to the door, but make sure you go around and pick up an ETHERDRY. In this next room the music changes; it's the Crystal room and inside it is the DARK ELF. BOSS FIGHT: DARK ELF HP: 3000 Just lose this fight and save your energy. After the short scene, equip yourself with all your metallic gear. BOSS FIGHT: DARK ELF HP: 3000 Just keep pounding on this guy, until he is gone. After you hit him for about 1500 HP of damage he will change form. Tella's magic is basically useless, but Cecil using his LEGEND sword will do about 700+ damage against him. Try too keep your party's HP above 250 and have Tella be your healer. Afterwards the DARK ELF dies, so take the Crystal of Earth and return to Toroia. To make a short cut have Tella use his DEJON magic once he is outside the Crystal Room. Now head back to the center of the Castle of Toroia where the Clerics are. Inside, the Clerics greet you, then suddenly Cain tells you to take the Crystal to his airship and he will show him where Rosa is. Before you leave, go to the room where the lady was guarding the treasure earlier, now the treasure of Toroia is now yours! Inside are twenty treasure chests which contain a HI-POTION, MEDICINE, ETHER, ETHERDRY, ELIXIR, 1000 GIL, a GREAT BOW, 10 FIRE ARROWS, another set of 10 FIRE ARROWS, a set of 10 LIT ARROWS, a set of 10 ICE ARROWS, another set of 10 ICE ARROWS, another stash of a 1000 GOLD, another ELIXIR, another ETHERDRY, another ETHER, another HEAL POTION, and another HI-POTION. Now head back to Gilbert's room, and a short scenario will take place. Now leave Toroia and head for your airship and make sure you save your game before you enter you airship. ROSA HERE WE COME! Now immediately when you board your airship Cain tells you to follow his airship after Cecil has shown him the Crystal of Earth. Note that you will never be able to enter this tower again, so make sure you collect everything you find. Watch for the monsters here, they can get pretty tough. Now make your way towards the top left corner of the room, collect the FLAME armor, and continue on to floor 2. In this next room is only one treasure chest which contains a FLAME sword. It is guarded by a FLAMEDOG, so make absolutely sure Cecil did not equip the FLAME ARMOR or he will get seriously burned. Try not to fight many battles here because enemies can get quite tough. After you have collected the FLAME sword continue onto the next floor. In this room the door to the next room is directly above you, so make your way around. There are no treasure chests in here. Now in this next room there are three doors in the middle and another door to the right. Take the first door to the right in the middle and pick up the PRIEST robe, equip it on Tella, but remember to de-equip it off of him later. In the middle of the middle rooms is an EARTH hammer for Cid; equip it on Cid and don't worry about the treasure chest above it. Now enter the next room to the left and to the right is the treasure chest above the one with the HAMMER. Inside you will find a HELLCLAW for Yang; equip it and continue on to the left. At the bottom here you will see a treasure chest; open it to pick up a FLAME shield for Cecil and then return back to the room you were in before (with the four doors). Now take the room all the way to the right. Enter the door and you will be back at the fifth floor again. Before you enter the room in the middle, make sure you save in the room before it, heal your wounds and continue on. Before you make it to the next room the Magus sisters will stop you. BOSS FIGHT: MAGUS SISTERS (RAG, MAG, DOG) HP: 2500(Rag - short), 2000(Mag - fat), 1400(Dog - tall) This fight is fairly easy. First attack Mag. They will use their DELTA attack which is a pretty lame attack. Dog will use RFLCT on Mag, while Rag will use either FIRE2, BLIZD2, or THND2 to reflect off of Mag. Have Tella attack either one with BIO besides Mag because she has RFLCT on. Have Cid use his EARTH hammer as an item repeatedly to do about 240 damage to all three sisters (don't worry you can use this over and over again), and have Yang and Cecil attack as normal. Continue onto the next room after defeating the sisters, but not before de- equipping Tella. A rather long scenario occurs. BOSS FIGHT: VALVALICIA HP: 6000 This boss fight is pretty hard and will drain alot out of your party. When she turns into a whirlwind, have Cain jump to stop her spin. Also she will use TORNADO quite often and will use RAY directly after TORNADO as well, so make sure you heal your party quickly and cure them if need. Rosa is not equipped with any weapons, so equip her with a BOW and ARROW if you have them and have her attack when the party is still healthy. Have Cecil, Yang, and Cid constantly attack. Keep this up and you should be able to defeat her. You will have another scenario and end up in Baron Castle. Now you can visit back to where Palom and Porom were stoned; if you click the "A" button you will see your menu screen pop up, but THERE IS NO WAY TO CURE THEM. EVER. Now head outside and make it to your airship. Before you go start looking for the place, make sure to visit the Village of Mist again. REVISIT THE VILLAGE OF MIST* This is completely optional as it has nothing to do with the game. First make it to the house in the upper left hand corner. Here it might look like there's nothing, but if you walk into the fireplace you will go through and into a hidden room. Inside is a GOLD BAND helmet, CLOTH ROBE, and a RUBYRING. Here you can also buy a POET robe for Cid, if he still has the CONVICT robe. Now leave your airship and head for the destroyed castle of EBLANAA which is southwest of Baron. RUINS OF EBLANA* This place is completely optional and does not effect the outcome of the game at all. Now head straight up and into a room with an open treasure chest. In the top right corner of this room is a treasure chest that looks like it's beyond reach, but just walk right into the treasure and pick up a HI-POTION. Here in this next room you will see three treasure chests to the right and two treasure chests to the left. Right now they are inaccessible, but continue onto the King's room. In the top right corner is a secret passage leading to a staircase; enter the staircase and you will enter the place where there were three inaccesible treasure chests. They contain a FENIXDWN, a HI-POTION, and a COTTAGE. To reach the COTTAGE just walk under the treasure chests. Now return to the King's room and take the secret passage to the top left corner to reach the other room with previously inaccessible treasures. There are only two treasure chests here which contain a MEDICINE and a HI-POTION. Now return to the courtyard and take the tower to the right. In this room you will see two treasure chests. To take the treasure chest to the left, go towards the top-lefthand corner of the room and go through the walls to pick up 600 GIL. Ignore the treasure chest on the right and enter the next room which is an ETHER and a HI-POTION. Check the pots above for a FENIXDWN and this time go through the wall to the right of the pots and open a treasure chest to initiate a fight. In this treasure chest are two CUARs and one LAMIA. This fight is pretty tough and watch out for the CUARs' BLASTER attack which will either paralyze or wound your party member. Afterwards you pick up the BLOOD spear. Now pick up the COTTAGE beneath the BLOOD spear and drop into the black hole. In this part of the room you will pick up 800 GIL. Now head down and you will be at the basement. Pick up the two treasure chests on the left first to collect two ETHERs. Now make sure you are fully healed before taking a look inside the treasure chest to the right. In this treasure chest is an ELIXIR, but you must kill three BSERK OGREs to get the item. This fight is pretty tough but with Yang's FAIRY claws this battle is a piece of cake. Now head out of the castle and head back in, but this time take the left tower. You will see a few treasure chests, but ignore them for now and continue on to the next floor. Check the pot in the top left hand corner for a HI-POTION and the pot at the bottom right hand corner for another HI-POTION. Now see that small gap to the left of the screen? Enter it to pick up an ETHER. Now head back and walk through the hidden path at the bottom right hand corner of the screen past the pot where you picked up a HI-POTION and you will pick up 10 MUTE ARROWs and 2000 GIL. Now head back to the entrance of the left tower. In the first room of the tower head to the door leading outside, but stop right in front of the door and head right and open the treasure chest to start a fight. Here you will be attacked by 4 SKULLs and one STALEMAN. Have Tella use Tornado, and equip Cecil with the Flame Sword and Yang with the Fire Claws to do maximum damage to the Skulls. You'll win the Slumber Sword. Now leave the castle. THE MINI TOWN OF MITHRIL* This place is completely optional and will not change the outcome of the game. Here there are many items scattered in the green grassy areas which are hidden from the normal eye's view. (You'll know they're there when you try walking through a space and are stopped.) So don't buy any weapons yet until you pick up a MITHRIL staff, a MITHRIL KNIFE, and 5000 GIL. Buy new weapons if you like, but its not recommended. Now go back to Baron; from Baron go south and land on an island with a small town and a huge mountain above it. WAY TO THE UNDERWORLD This place is Agalt, a peaceful nation that will talk alot about Dwarves. Here in this town a treasure chest is hidden in the green grassy area with a HI-POTION. You really do not need to buy weapons because most of the equipment you have is better than the stuff they sell. Now head towards the bottomless well near the centre of town and throw in the MAGMA rock, which will cause an earthquake that will split the mountain. Enter the mountain with your airship. YOUR NEXT JOURNEY BEGINS UNDERGROUND You'll watch another scenario; when you come to, save your game and enter the large castle nearby. WHAT PLOT IS GOLBEZE UP TO THIS TIME? Enter the castle and go directly to the middle. A scenario will begin. You'll have time to enter the menu screen and get ready before the next fight. BOSS FIGHT: CALCO & BRENA, CALCOBRENA HP: CALCO(800) BRENA(400) CALCOBRENA(3000) This boss fight is pretty tough so don't be surprised that you find yourselves losing early on. First have Cecil attack the CALCOs, have Cain JUMP the CALCOs, have Yang perform his KICK, and have Rosa AIM at the BRENAs. Continue to do this until they are all gone. However if by any chance you leave one of them standing they can still form into CALCOBRENA, whose attacks are very powerful and has alot of HP. If this happens hit CALCOBRENA with your best attacks, also if you do not destroy CALCOBRENA in time before she forms back into the 6 dolls, that means you will have to face the 6 dolls all over again despite the fact that you may have destroy 5 out of the 6 dolls earlier. Just keep blasting away and hope! Another short scene, then... BOSS FIGHT: GOLBEZE and BLACK DRAGON HP: 800(BLACK DRAGON) 2800(GOLBEZE) Don't waste MP or items on this boss, just sit back and watch. Before you go anywhere, make sure you explore this castle! It's pretty big and has some nifty items. Cool point: Right after the King finishes talking to you, have Rydia Warp and you will be in the Crystal room, even though you saw Golbez take the crystal the crystal is still there for some strange reason. EXPLORATION OF THE DWARF CASTLE Exit out of the King's room and take the left staircase; you will be at the inn. Check the pot next to the counter to recieve 1000 GIL. From here take the left staircase and you will be in a room with a door at the bottom and a staircase in the middle. Take the staircase and you will see a room full of pots and a Dwarf at the top. He will let you take the treasures in the tower. There is nothing in the pots, so continue on. In this room take the left side and a treasure chest will give you a HI-POTION. Now there is a hidden passage leading to the treasure chest at the bottom of the HI-POTION, go through that way to collect a BL.BELT robe. Now go around and to the right to pick up an ETHER. Also a Namingway is here in case you hate the names of your party members. To the right of the Namingway is yet another hidden passage that leads to the top treasure chest which is an ELIXIR. Now head back to the entrance of the left tower and this time go outside. You will see a few Dwarves outside, talk to them if you like and continue on to the right tower. In here you will see two staircases. First take the treasure chest which is a DWARF AXE, and then take the staircase in the middle. In this next room the guard will allow you to take the other treasures; there are a bunch of pots, and there is absolutely nothing in these pots. In this next room take the treasure chest to the top and open it to recieve the POWER ring. Now to the right of the treasure chest is another hidden passage: go through it and take the treasure chest to the right to pick up an ETHERDRY. Now pick up the treasure chest at the bottom which is an ELIXIR and pick up the final treasure chest which is an ETHER. Now return to the entrance of the tower. Take the right staircase and you will be in the Weapons and Armor shop. For a very cute scene, go in between the two shops to reach the Lali-Ho pub. Look for a secret passage near the right side of the room. Go down the staircase to reach the suite where the game programmers are staying! Talk to all of them, check all the pots for treasure and check all the bookcases and shelves. One of the bookcases contains a PORNOMAG. This item is useless; just use it as soon as you get it. Now return to the shops. Buy three RUNE rings for Rosa, Yang, and Rydia, and a PRIEST hat for Rydia. Don't bother to buy any Fire equipment here because they won't help much in the underworld. Now you can go to the stairs in the top left hand corner if you want to dump off some of your items to the Chubby Chocobo. Also if you don't have any veggies there are three of them to the right of the Chubby Chocobo in the pots. Also in this room talk to the Dwarf in front of the Liquor Shelf and he will open the door for you to the bottom half of the castle. Now you will be in the basement. To the right side of the basement is a COTTAGE, a COTTAGE, and yet another COTTAGE. Now go to the left. In this room is the Dwarf base, to the very left is a Recovery Pot, so you can heal your wounds. Now leave the castle and save your game. RAID ON THE TOWER OF BABIL >From outside here go all the way northwest and you will find tanks shooting at the Tower of Babil, so while they distract the Tower enter through. When you enter, take the left and recieve 10 ICE ARROWs and another set of ICE ARROWs. Now take the right path of the room, pick up an ETHER and enter the middle of the room. In this next room pick up the GR.BERET to the left and continue down. Take the very next door you see: inside is a treasure chest. Inside is an EYES, each time you attack it when a monster is not present it will call another monster. After you defeat it, equip the BLIZZARD SPEAR and continue on. Now take the right door and inside is another treasure chest, and also another battle with an EYES. After you win the battle you will recieve a ICE BRAND sword; equip it and move on. In this next room take the treasure chest to the left and pick up a CATCLAW for Yang. From here to the right is a HI-POTION. After you have picked that up, go to the right door in the room and pick up the FENIXDWN. In this room is another FENIXDWN and a KILLER BOW; equip the Bow and head back into the room. Now head to the left door. In this room go to the left and enter a save point, save your game and continue on to the right side of this room. Now enter the room to the bottom. You will have to fight an EYES here, but win the battle to pick up an ICE SHIELD. The room to the right has nothing inside, so go to the room at the top to fight another EYES. This time if you win you recieve an ICE ARMOR. Equip both ICE equipment on and continue through to the top left. In this next room go get the treasure chest to the right contains 2,000 GIL. Now continue to the right, but ignore the room in the middle because it's locked. Pick up a HI-POTION on the way and continue upwards into the next room. Here just go to the door on the left. In this next room take the right side and into a door to find a SAVE POINT, save your game and continue on. Also pick up an ETHERDRY right before the next room. Here just continue on and make it to the left side of the room. After a short scene, you will have a boss battle. BOSS FIGHT: LUGEIE, BLANABA HP: 3000(LUGEIE) 2700(BALNABA) Here in this battle start things off with everyone targeting LUGEIE: Cecil attacking, Cain Jumping, Rosa Aiming, and Yang attacking. Have Rydia use RAMUH. Keep pounding on LUGEIE until he is gone so that he doesn't constantly heal BALNABA. At first BALNABA will attack LUGEIE, but then he will attack you so his hit is actually a freebie. This fight isn't too tough, but if you do not kill BALNABA in time before he explodes, then most likely one of your characters will die because the EXPLODE takes off loads of damage. The amount of HP he has left will dictate how much damage he will inflict. After this battle LUGEIE still stands, but this time he has a trick up his sleeve. BOSS FIGHT: LUGEIE HP: 5000 This fight is a little tougher than the last so take some extra precautions. First take a few swings at him before he turns into a skeleton. Have Rosa AIM and heal if neccessary. Have Rydia cast RAMUH or IFRIT, have Cain JUMP and have both Yang and Cecil attack. Watch out for the LASER attack: it'll most likely kill off one of your party members, so revive them. Also watch out for the GAS: it will paralyze your party member, but you can wait and have LUGEIE heal you or heal the party member yourself. Afterwards you should be able to win and collect the TOWER key. After the battle head back to the middle room that was locked earlier. When you enter this room three DARK IMPs attack. BOSS FIGHT: Three DARK IMPs HP: 180 each This fight is basically a joke, yet they give you a lofty amount of experience points. After the scene, exit out of the Tower. You'll see another scenario. ONWARD TOWARDS BARON! Head back to Baron Castle. Make your way to the right side of the castle and you will see two people standing outside below the right tower. Talk to them and Cid's crew has already been informed to attach a hook to the Enterprise. After the crew is done now that party can hook and attach the Hovercraft. To attach the Hovercraft, simply go over it and press the "A" button. The crew tells you that you can reach the Cave of Eblana near the Tower of Babil. So remember where you last left your Hovercraft? Yes you got it, near Mt. Hobs directly northeast of Baron. Now go southwest of Baron, land your Hovercraft and go to the Cave of Eblana just south of the Tower of Babil. WHAT LIES AHEAD IN THESE CAVES? >From here go to the right and pick up a SHURIKEN dart. Go to the right and pick up a MEDICINE, then continue on to the bottom of the cave. To the bottom right of the cave is 1200 GIL. After that go to the next room. In this area monsters will not attack you, and the people of Eblana are now living in the caves, take a look around and buy some new equipment. You can buy an extra ICE armor and also an extra ICE shield for Cain if you like, but since he is jumping most of the time I don't think that would be neccessary. Also I would consider buying a BLACK gown for Rydia because it suits her better than her current equipment. The weapons shop is a complete waste of time because you already have the equipment they are selling. So continue on to the bottom left room. Talk to the folks and check the pots at the end of the nursing room to pick up a POTION, as well as the pot near the entrance of the nursing room to pick up another POTION. After that's all done, head out and on to the next area. This next area is the Pass to Babil. To the right is an ETHER. After that, go to the top to find a TENT and a wounded guard: he will tell you that the Prince has went alone. Below the guard is a HI-POTION and above is a X-POTION. Continue on to the next room and you will find another downed guard. To the right of this room is another SHURIKEN dart. Continue and in this room through the hidden passage are two treasure chests containing two ELIXIRs. The other treasure chests contain a COTTAGE, a HI-POTION, and another HI-POTION. Here in this room you will see another downed guard, to the bottom is 800 GIL and to the right are three treasure chests which contain a a FENIXDWN, another FENIXDWN, and 850 GIL. Continue onwards to the top and onto the next room. In this next room is a save point, you might want to save before collecting the treasure chest to the right. If you do decide to pick up the treasure chest, it contains a BLOOD sword for Cecil, but you must defeat two STALEMANs to obtain it. After you have saved your game, exit out of the save room and go to the top, but pick up the FENIXDWN to the left side first. When you reach the top you will see another scene. BOSS FIGHT: K.EBLANA, Q.EBLANA (King and Queen of Eblana) HP: 32,000(K.EBLANA) 30,000(Q.EBLANA) In this battle you don't have to do anything. Keep your party healed and the King and Queen of Eblana will "come to their senses". Another scene will occur. Before you fight Rubicante you can pick up the 82,000 GIL treasure chest to the left (you can get it after the battle if you want) and make sure you do NOT heal yourselves. Rubicante will automactically heal your wounds for you. When you are prepared, talk to Rubicante to start the fight. BOSS FIGHT: RUBICANTE HP: 24,000 This boss fight isn't too tough. Have Cain JUMP which causes almost 4,000 HP of damage with each hit and have Cecil attack which causes about 2,300 HP of damage each hit. If you want to use Ice spells or Shiva, make sure you time it right; if his cape is closed, it'll heal him instead! Have Rosa AIM with her ICE arrows and have Edge dart with his SHURIKENs, and also have Rydia use BIO. Now continue and keep pounding on him with the same pattern and he should be gone. Another scene occurs. When you enter the room above, you will fall into a pitfall dropping you to the floor below. In this next area, pick up a HI-POTION at the top and move on. In this next room just proceed to the top. Here you will be on the 6F. Continue down and to the right is a HI-POTION. In this next room another scene will occur. When you gain control again, head back to the Castle of Dwarves. WHAT HELP CAN THE KING OFFER THIS TIME? Proceed to the center of the castle. A scene will occur, then head to the nursing room to the left of the entrance to the Dwarves' Base and talk to the man in the bed. After another scene, head towards the Sealed Cave southwest of the Dwarf Castle (it looks like a square shape in the middle of rocks). DEFEND THE LAST CRYSTAL BEFORE GOLBEZE OBTAINS IT! >From here just unlock the door and proceed to the first floor. Proceed down, pick up a FENIXDWN and enter the door above; but watch out, every door in here is a battle with an ASSAULT DOOR. I think this one deserves a mini-boss strategy. MINI-BOSS: ASSAULT DOOR HP: 5000 When the battle starts he will IMMEDIATELY cast Target on one of your characters. VERY soon after that he will cast Dimensn9, which instantly kills that character. If Rosa's fast enough, have her cast RFLCT on the targeted character to instantly kill the ASSAULT DOOR. If not, give up the one character as lost and just keep pounding it with attacks (have Cain use Jump). If you see that he's too fast and kill of ANOTHER of your characters, you might want to use some Summon magic as well. You'll have to fight a LOT of these throughout the dungeon. Oh, and if its HP gets low and you don't kill it quickly enough, it'll morph into another monster with full HP! In this room (past the first ASSAULT DOOR), you will find an ETHER and a KOTETSU for Edge. Now get out of this room and proceed to the left. You will see another Door which is yet another ASSAULT DOOR. Defeat it and move on through. In this room pick up a HI-POTION and proceed to the 2nd door from the left, because the first door doesn't have anything. Make sure to pick up an ETHERDRY (or was it one?) in the treasure chest to the left. Now enter the door and defeat the ASSAULT DOOR; inside is absolutely nothing, but the ASSAULT DOOR did give you a lofty amount of experience right? Continue to the ladder below. In this next area proceed down through the rope walkway, pick up a FENIXDWN, and continue on to pick up another FENIXDWN. Now proceed to the second door from the right because the 1st door has absolutely nothing. In the second door defeat the ASSAULT DOOR. Inside is a LIGHT sword. Equip it on Cecil and continue on to the 3rd door. In this room is a HELLWIND dart, an ELIXIR, and 5,000 GIL. Ignore the 3rd door, unless you want to gain some levels, and go to the fourth door. Defeat the ASSAULT DOOR and proceed inside. There is a save point; save your game and heal your wounds and proceed to the fifth door. Defeat the ASSAULT DOOR and inside you will find gear for Edge which are a DARKHOOD and a KOTETSU. Afterwards proceed down and fight yet another ASSAULT DOOR. Defeat it and enter the room. In this room pick up an ETHER and continue on to the left ladder. In this next room is a HI-POTION and a FENIXDWN. Ignore the door to the left because there's nothing inside (unless you want to fight an ASSAULT DOOR for some high experience points). In this room go to the right, pick a FENIXDWN, and enter through the door if you want to earn some experience because there is nothing inside the room. Now continue to the middle of the room and take the rope ladder going down. From here go to the right, defeat the ASSAULT DOOR and enter through. This room contains an ETHERDRY and a X-POTION. Now head out, go towards the left, and take the ladder into the next room. In this room is a save point: save your game again and heal your wounds and proceed down. From here just ignore the rope ladders to the sides, make your way around to the middle, and proceed to the center room. You should be on B5F. Make your way to the center of the room and pick up the crystal. Now leave the crystal room and make your way outside. You will fight a boss battle before you are allowed to leave. BOSS FIGHT: DEMON WALL HP: 20,000 This will probably be the hardest fight so far, unless you've gained tons of levels somewhere. The DEMON WALL closes in at a fast pace, and when he gets close enough (which is WAY too soon) he will use CRUSHDWN attacks on single characters, killing them immediately. You don't have much time. Use all your best attacks. Have Rosa cast Haste on Rydia and have Rydia use Titan or Bio. Have Cecil attack and Cain Jump. Have Edge throw all his Shurikens and his Hellfire, then use regular attacks. If he already gets to the crushing mode, you're probably dead. Just in case, try to revive Rydia because Titan does the most damage; don't bother healing her, just keep her alive. It's mostly luck. After the battle have the party leave this floor. In the next floor have Rydia use DEJON and continue to DEJON until she reaches the entrance to the Sealed Cave. Before you leave there is another scene and Cain leaves the party; be sure to de-equip him first. For now there are three things you can do: a) Return to the Dwarf Castle b) Proceed to the Land of Phantom Beasts c) Proceed to the Sylph Cave It's your choice, and choice b and c are completely optional in the game. But if you are following this walkthrough. go to the Land of Phantom Beasts first. THE KING OF THE PHANTOM BEASTS AWAITS* >From the Sealed Cave go a little northwest and you will see a small island on the lava. Land you ship there and enter through. Before you move anywhere immediately cast FLOAT: this will allow you to escape any harm done by the "Lava Pot Holes" and also the Quake attacks the opponents use here. And each time you enter a staircase or room, you must cast FLOAT again so keep that in mind. Proceed to the top right corner and pick up a FENIXDWN. Walk to the left, pick up an ETHER, and continue on to the bottom. At the bottom right hand corner is a HI-POTION. Then proceed to the next room on the left. In this room once again cast FLOAT, continue to the bottom, and pick up a HI-POTION. Now go to the top left, pick up a COTTAGE, proceed to the right, and enter through the ladder. Now continue towards the bottom and pick up a FENIXDWN. Ignore the left side for now. Continue to the right and pick up a X-POTION. Now to the right is a hidden passage: go through and go down. To the left is a HI-POTION, a POISON axe, and a KIKUICHI. Now go back all the way to the right and go up. Before you enter the next room, go to the top and open a Treasure chest to start a fight against 5 WARRIORs. Have Rydia use TITAN in this battle and have the party attack as usual. After the battle you recieve a DEFENDER sword for Cecil. Now enter the next room. In here you will see a couple of mages. Now go down and pick up 3000 GIL, and continue on to pick up 2000 GIL. Continue around, ignoring the portal to the next room, and pick up another 2000 GIL. At the bottom is an ETHER. Now go all the way down to the bottom of the room; you will see a square of the floor that is slightly bordered in brown. Enter it and you will be in a hidden room which contains 10 YOICHI arrows, an ELIXIR, an ETHERDRY, and a YOICHI bow. Exit out of this room and proceed to the next room, but make sure to pick up the treasure chest which contains a RAT TAIL. In here are some weapons and armor shops. Continue to the top left corner; in here is a save spot and two treasure chests, which contain a FENIXDWN and a MEDICINE. Now save your game and heal your wounds if any. Go down and enter the house where a yellow chocobo is standing in front of (the library). In this room make your way through and talk to Ashura on the right. Rydia will ask for Queen Ashura's help, but she will need to test the group's worthiness first. If Rosa is at level 34 or above, select yes to battle: BOSS FIGHT: ASHURA HP: 22,000 This battle is hopeless without Rosa's RFLCT spell. As soon as the battle starts, cast RFLCT on ASHURA. If you don't do this, she'll heal herself way too fast for you to attack her. Once she's RFLCTed, just keep attacking her. Don't worry too much about healing, don't use any magic or arrows, and don't use any FENIXDWNS. You'll eventually just get healed and revived by her. When you win, you'll get the ASURA summon spell. After the battle head back to the save room and save your game. Now head back to the room that you fought Ashura in and talk to the man on the left. Select yes and a fight will start. BOSS FIGHT: LEVIATHAN HP: 35,000 This fight is not going to be easy. He will use his BIG WAVE attack often, draining about 600 HP from everybody. Make sure you do not have any ICE equipment on Cecil because his BLIZD2 attack will do about 1300 HP of damage. You might want to have Rosa cast RFLCT on Cecil so that the BLIZD2 spell reflects back on LEVIATHAN. Also, don't cast RFLCT on everybody so that Rosa can heal your party. Have Rydia use TITAN and ASURA when your party's HP gets low. Have Rosa AIM and heal if neccessary. Make sure to revive party members quickly. Have Cecil and Edge attack regularly. After the battle, Leviathan will lend you his power. After this tough fight have Rosa TELEP. Check if you have at least 20 FENIXDWNS, 20 APPRENTICEs, and 20 ECHOHERBS - you'll need them where you're going. Head to the cave northwest of the Phantom Beast cave, but heal your wounds and save your game first. WHO'S THE INJURED MAN HERE?* Immediately cast FLOAT on the entire party. Watch out for two types of enemies here: the MOLBOLs and the TOADLADYs. The MOLBOLs will cast BADBREATH on one character, giving him every status problem in the book! Remember that both Cecil and Rosa know Esuna, so have Cecil cast it after battle whenever possible (it's the only decent spell he can use anyway). If he got BADBREATHed, have Rosa cast Esuna. If they're both gone, use an ECHOHERB on Cecil so he can cast Esuna on himself and Rosa. For the TOADLADYs, don't ever bother using any items or healing during the battle. She can't even hurt you! And the toads will just as often heal you from being a frog. So just keep attacking the TOADLADY (the Toad Toads won't do anything at all when she's gone!) and THEN heal from Frog status. >From the start, go to the right and pick up a HI-POTION and a set of 10 ANGEL arrows. Now continue down. In this room is a staircase that leads to the top and one that leads to the bottom. Take the bottom staircase for now. Cast FLOAT again and you will see a save point. It shouldn't be neccessary to save here now. To the right is a ELVENBOW. To the left side is 1000 GIL and a COTTAGE. Now continue down on the left side to the staircase. Now head out of this room and take the staircase that is above you. In this next room go all the way to the top middle of the room through a hidden passage, and you will see a treasure chest. Inside it contains a MAGEMASH but you must defeat 6 TOAD TOADs and a TOADLADY to win it, which is not pretty hard. Now continue onto the next room IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM. In here go up and find a HI-POTION, an ETHER, a set of 10 LIT arows, a set of 10 ICE arrows, and a set of 10 FIRE arrows. Now head out and go up and enter the room above you. In this room to the left is an ELIXIR; after picking it up proceed down. Further along the way you will see a house of some sort. In here you will find a CATCLAW and a HELLCLAW that Yang was wearing earlier. Here you will see Yang, but he is unconsious right now, so have Rydia cast DEJON four times. You will see a staircase in the middle which you saw earlier, but this time take the top staircase you didn't take earlier. Once again don't forget to cast FLOAT. In this room go to the top where you will see three treasure chests: they are a HI-POTION, a MEDICINE, and a FAIRY rod. Now head to the right via the hidden passage and into the next room. In this room go right and down and pick up the four treasure chests which contain a HI-POTION, 3000 GIL, 2000 GIL, and a MEDICINE. After doing that, continue down. Here there are five unopened treasure chests which contain a X-POTION, HI-POTION, MEDICINE, another MEDICINE, and an ETHER. After that, drop into the hole to the right. Here go up and to the left and enter the portal to take you to a room with six treasure chests. The top left one contains an ELIXIR which you will have to fight 6 GHOSTs for. The bottom treasure chest contains an ENGETSU boomerang for Edge, but you will have to fight 2 DARKTREEs and two MOLBOLs for it. The next one on the top is another ELIXIR but you will have to fight 6 GHOSTs for it. The bottom second treasure chest contains an AVENGER sword which you will have to fight two MOLBOLs for. The next treasure chest on the top is an ELIXIR which you will have to fight six GHOSTs for. The treasure chest on the bottom contains a set of 10 MEDUSA arrows which you will need to fight 2 CENTIPEDEs for. After that head out of the cave. Now head back to the Dwarf Castle. YOU'VE HELPED TOO MUCH CID! Talk to Jiott to start another scene. Afterwards head out of the Dwarf Castle and onto your airship. Go to the small black hole in the upper right corner and press A; a new way will open for you. When you reach outside there are 4 things to do: a) Head for Mysidia like the King told you to. b) Head for the basement of Baron. c) Head to the island near Mithril Town. d) Go to the Castle of Fabul and talk to Yang's wife. It doesn't matter which area you go to, but if you are following this walkthrough go to the island near Mithril Town. First attach your Hovercraft to the Enterprise. GET THE ADAMANT ORE* Here just use your Hovercraft and go to the small cave. Inside you will see two mini people, talk to the one in the middle. He doesn't want to talk to you unless you have a Tail for him. Give him the Rat Tail and he will give you the Adamant Ore. From here just leave and head to Fabul which is directly north. HOW DO WE WAKE UP YANG?* Talk to Yang's wife. She will give you a Fry Pan. Now leave and back to the Sylph cave in the underworld. SNAP OUT OF IT!* Go back to where you saw Yang earlier. In the house where you saw Yang give him a good whack on the head with the Fry Pan. After a short scene you will get the SYPLH summon spell. Now exit out and head for Fabul. OUCH! WITH THIS WE CAN EASILY DEFEAT GOLBEZE!* Give Yang's wife back the frying pan and she give you the Cleaver, which is the strongest Dart in the game. Now head back to Baron. A FORMER KING WISHES TO HELP* Here save your game outside and go in. Make sure you duplicate your KIKUICHI and your DEFENDER (see the bottom of this walkthrough) before you proceed. Go to the basement of Baron and into the King's room. You will automatically start battle. BOSS FIGHT: ODIN HP: 19,000 Ouch! You have to beat this guy quick otherwise he will use his ODIN attack that will do about 4,000 HP to every party member. If you don't want to wait until your stats have risen exponentially, have Edge throw the Cleaver at Odin for 9999 damage points. With luck you should beat him. Otherwise, have Rosa use HOLY (she must be at level 55 to cast this) and have Rydia summon LEVIA, have Edge dart as many things as possible and have Cecil attack. After a while he will go down. After the battle you can now summon ODIN. Now return back to the underground. THE LEGENDARY SWORD CAN NOW BE MADE!* When you are in the underground go to the southeast part of the Underground and talk to the Blacksmith upstairs that is sleeping. Here hand him over the Adamant ore and also you must give him the LEGEND sword. Here he will tell you to come back later. So head towards Mysidia in the upper world. THE LEGEND THEY SPEAK OF IS TRUE! After the scenario, head back to your airship and toward the blacksmith's house. THE LEGENDARY SWORD IS NOW YOURS!!!* Talk to the Blacksmith now and you will recieve the EXCALIBUR. Equip it and watch your attack power make a tremendous jump! Now if you didn't defeat Odin earlier then make sure you duplicate a ton of EXCALIBURs and head back to Baron. But if you have already defeated ODIN or if you don't want to fight him for now then head back to the Magical Ship. A TRIP TO THE MOON When you're in the Magical Ship, talk to the Crystal and it will take you to the moon. Here you can take a look into outer space. When you are on the moon make a landing just northwest of the giant Crystal palace. You will have to walk your way to the Crystal palace. So take the cave to the left. When you are in this cave, go right and inside the treasure chest are 2 EUCARYOTEs and 2 PROCARYOTEs. Defeat them to obtain an ELIXIR. Now to the top right of this room is a HI-POTION and a MEDICINE. After you have picked that up, exit out through the top. Now when you are outside go southeast into another cave which is the LUNAR PATH. In here is basically nothing. When you reach outside again all you have to do is make your way to the cave right under the Crystal Palace. A SHOCKING TRUTH UNCOVERED In this palace and to the left is an HP and Status recovery spot and to the left is an MP recovery spot. Step on them if you are badly injured. Now head towards the center of the Crystal Palace. After the scene, I highly recommend that you go to Bahamut's cave. Also FuSoYa starts out at level 50 with 1900 HP, but his defense is very weak so keep him in the back. THE KING OF DRAGONS AWAITS When you're in the Magical Ship talk to the steering wheel at the top of the ship, don't talk to the crystal yet though otherwise you cannot obtain Bahamut until after you destroy the Giant of Babil. Also in here there is a room at the middle of the Magical Ship: you will never need TENTs or COTTAGEs any more unless you are inside a cave. In here are tiles like free inns: just simply go over them and the party will sleep automatically. Also at the bottom is a Chubby Chocobo for you to store your items. Now head to the circular ring around a giant rock to the east of the Crystal Palace (or to the West, it doesn't matter). Now enter the cave in the middle. Go to the bottom and pick up a GENJI guantlet for Cecil and proceed to the right. Take the hidden passage and pick up the GENJI shield for Cecil. Continue down and onto the next room. Now in this room go to the top left and take and equip the GENJI armor for Cecil; pick up the GENJI helmet for Cecil as well. Before you go any further make sure you are fully healed. Now proceed to the middle and face off against BEHEMOTH (the screen will blur as if it's a regular battle, but it's not!) BOSS FIGHT: BEHEMOTH HP: 16,000 This boss will almost never attack on his own - he just counterattacks. The easiest way to do this is to use Blink on at least three of your characters. That way, they can easily survive at least three attacks. Now just keep attacking him. Have Cecil and Edge attack as normal. Have FuSoYa use any level 3 elemental spell, have Rydia summon Leviatan and have Rosa be your healer. If you have Cain instead of FuSoYa, just let him Jump. After the tough fight heal your wounds and continue on towards the top and into the next room. Here just continue down but another unseen BEHEMOTH blocks your path. BOSS FIGHT: BEHEMOTH HP: 16,000 See above. After the battle heal your wounds. Now keep going; before you reach the middle of the cave another BEHEMOTH is there to slow you down. BOSS FIGHT: BEHEMOTH HP: 16,000 See above. After this battle, continue onto the middle of the room. Talk to the king to automatically begin the next fight. BOSS FIGHT: BAHAMUT HP: 40,000 This battle is easy to win: the question is how many people you want to win it with (how much experience to distribute). Casting a single RFLCT spell (or using one Light Curtain) will guarantee victory (his M. Flare attack will reflect back on him), but the more people who are protected with RFLCT, the more people will gain experience! After the RFLCT is in place, just keep hammering him with whatever you've got. After you win, you'll learn the BAHAM summon spell. Now leave the cave, go back to the Magical Ship, heal yourself, and then go back outside and save your game. Stock up at the lunar Humingway Cave now, you won't be able to once you reach Earth! Now head back to the Magical Ship and Earth. THE GIANT OF BABIL ACTIVATED? A scenario will play once you reach Earth. You'll automatically be dumped into the Babil Giant. DESTROY THE CORE FOR ALL LIVING THINGS ON EARTH! Proceed to the top to reach the Giant's neck. Then go to the Chest area. To the left is a SHURIKEN dart. Continue down and also pick up a HI-POTION along the way. Continue on and pick up an ETHER and also a set of 10 YOICHI arrows at the top and a COTTAGE. After that proceed to the stomach area; in here is a FENIXDWN and another FENIXDWN. Then continue on to the left. Here in the Passage, pick up the ELIXIR(it's guarded by a LAST ARM - watch out for its FISSION attack, so destroy it quick). Now proceed to the top which is a save point and heal your wounds if neccessary. Don't use Tents, just magic. Now you will be in the Lung part of the Giant. Inside here you will face off against the Four Emperors again, but this time they fight together. Rubicante will heal all of your wounds before battle. BOSS FIGHT: 4 EMPERORS HP: 104,000 In this boss fight you first face off against SCARMIGLIONE. (17,000 HP) He's a cinch - use all your protective magic NOW. I recommend casting Blink on Rosa and FuSoYa. Have FuSoYa cast FIRE3, have Rydia cast FIRE3 or (if she doesn't know it yet) IFRIT, have Edge cast Katon, and have Cecil attack. Next is RUBICANTE (39,000). He's a bit tougher - he'll cast continual Fire spells on the whole party. Starting from now, have Rose and FuSoYa cast Keal3 on the party EVERY TURN. The MP should last you through the fight, but if you get desperate cast Aspir or use Ethers. Cast BLIZD3 or SHIVA on RUBICANTE, and have Edge use SITON. Next up is CAIGNOZZIO (21,000). Now comes the tough part - all his regular attacks take off 600-1000 HP, plus his Big Wave takes off about 600 HP for every member. You may want to upgrade one of the Keal3 spells to a Keal4 spell if you need it. Use THND3 or RAMUH, and have Edge cast RAJIN. If Edge runs out of MP, just have him use regular attacks. The last boss is VALVALICIA (27,000). Use the same attack tactics, but watch out for her Maelstrom attack, which'll deplete all HP to 1 (like Kefka's Fallen One from FF6). Cast Keal4 when this happens and just keep pounding on her with lightning attacks. After the battle the four Emperors perish one by one. Now go back to your save point, heal your wounds and save. Now go back to the Lung and into the core. Here the alarm goes off. FuSoYa tells the party to destroy the Defensive system first otherwise all damage will be repaired. BOSS FIGHT: CONTROL SYS (Control System), DEFENSE SYS (Defense System), ATTACK SYS (Attack System) HP: 3000(DEFEND SYS, ATTACK SYS) 22,000(CONTROL SYS) This is a very brainless and easy battle. Don't even bother using any magic. Have EVERYONE just use regular attacks - first against the DEFENSE SYS (lower one) and then against the CONTROL SYS (big one). Don't touch the ATTACK SYS! The only attack that ever comes is a multi-laser which takes off 100-300 HP from the party. Just every two turns, have FuSoYa cast Keal3 on the party. That's it! Just keep attacking. You may want to de-equip FuSoYa during the fight - he leaves the party after the fight. After you beat the CONTROL SYS, a longish scenario will play. RESTOCK BEFORE YOUR JOURNEY TO THE MOON'S CORE Here in this cave is a small shop that sells supplies. After beating all those Behemoths in the Cave of Phantom God, you should have lots of money floating around. Make sure you have at least 50 FENIXDWNS, 20 COTTAGEs, and 99 YOICHI arrows (you can now buy them in the underworld, in the blacksmith's house.) Buy at least 2 Whistles in the Humingway Cave on the moon. If you have any money left over, buy Shurikens and HellWinds in the blacksmith's house, and Ethers in the Humingway Cave on the moon. Remember to sell Cecil's Diamond equipment (now that you have the Genji equipment you don't need it). THE FINAL BATTLE RESTS IN THE PARTY'S HANDS When you reach the crystal room you will get a chance to talk to the crystals. You will learn that there are eight crystals of Earth and eight crystals of the moon. When you're done, proceed to the middle and the crystals will automatically take you to the Lunar Underground. Also make note that there are many tough opponents inside the Lunar Underground and it will be quite a while before you reach your first save point in the Lunar Underground. The enemies here are so varied and difficult that I think a special section is appropriate. The Lunar Underground is more or less divided into four parts: PART 1 DARK WIZARDs, MOONGODESSs, SKULLDRAGNs, and DEMONSOLDRS Always go for the DARK WIZARDs first. Although their attacks are fairly weak, they're annoying. Always have Edge SNEAK from the MOONGODESSs; you can get Artemis arrows! Attack strategically; they have 2700 HP, so hit them until you only need one more hit to kill, then keep SNEAKing them. Be quick; if you wait too long, they'll cast a spell which completely heals one character but also turns him to stone! Then they'll run away. The SKULLDRAGNs are easy; Cecil's swords do major damage! Whenever you get a DEMONSOLDR, go for him even before the Dark Wizards. They have a LOT of HP. PART 2 SILVRDRAGONs, GOLD DRAGONS, ALLEMAGNEs, ZOMBIESAURs, BLUE DRAGONS, RILMARDERs. I hope you've got a lot of Artemis arrows from the MOONGODESSs! They are really great against all of these dragonish enemies. GOLD DRAGONS will counter with a paralysis attack all the time, but it misses often. Get the ALLEMAGNEs quickly; they'll put a Death Sentence on you! If you're lucky, it'll cast it on the same character twice, resetting the time! If you see that you're running out of time, just keep hitting A; if you're lucky, the character just won't die! If you see that you're not having any luck, just use Edge's KEMUR. The ZOMBIESAURs are also very susceptible to Cecil's swords. The RILMARDERs don't do anything at all besides cast RABUR on themselves; if you hit them with a Lightning spell, they'll wake up and cast THND3 on the party, so just keep attacking them for some easy EXP and Gil. The BLUE DRAGONs are really tough - they have a LOT of HP, their regular attacks are very strong, and their SNOWSTRM attack can be nasty as well. If you're lucky (I was) you'll get a DRAGON Whip after beating a lone BLUE DRAGON! This item makes dragon battles (even boss ones) MUCH easier! PART 2A: PUDPRINCES There's a single room on the right side of the 5th floor, which holds a COTTAGE. Fighting around in this room will put you up against Rilmarders (easy) or a pair of SlvrDragon and GoldDragon (sort of hard). Rarely you'll also get a Zombiesaur (easy). Keep fighting around (I'd recommend you save your game state after every fight) and eventually (after a LONG time) you'll come up against the PudPrinces. These pink dudes give you one round and then the Chocobo music will start and your characters will more or less be BERSKed. If you get a chance to heal, do it! There are 5 PudPrinces and each of them have 20,000 HP. If you win, you'll get over 270,000 Gil! (55,555 from each). Also, if you're VERY lucky, you'll get a PinkTail. TELEP out and give it to the man on Adamant Isle for the awesome Admanat Armor! If you don't want to spend the time, use the Alarm item (so THAT's what it's for!) to fight them immediately. If you run out, you can use the Game Genie Gunslinger code to get them (they're 4 items after Tent). PART 3 RED DRAGONs, BEHEMOTHs, PHASEs. RED DRAGONs are similar to BLUE DRAGONs, but their multi-attacks don't do as much damage (although they are more accurate). The BEHEMOTHs are a bit easier this time around because your stats are higher. Only have Cecil and Cain go at them while the rest of the party Defend and Rosa casts BLINK (Edge can cast Bushn). The PHASEs are really tough - they immediately cast RFLCT on everyone, meaning you can't use any healing spells, then casts spells like HOLY, FLARE, and BIO on the party. Just keep using your strongest attacks! You can cast black magic by aiming at one of your party members so it'll reflect onto the PHASE, but watch out - it doesn't tell you when the RFLCT wears off! PART 4 ZEMUS MIND, ZEMUSBRETH These two creatures only appear in the last screen before Zemus. They are both classified as bosses; they have boss explosion effects. ZEMUS MIND is extremely tough - he'll use both Protc and Shell on himself, making physical attacks harmless and magical attacks weak. He'll then proceed to cast Confu on the whole party! The experience you get when you're done just isn't worth it - just run away. The ZEMUSBRETH is the opposite - he doesn't do anything except Rabur most of the time. Sometimes he'll cast MindFlay. He should be easy. When you first enter the Moon's Core, go to the left through the hidden passage and onto the portal; here you should see a door in front. Enter it and go through. You will see a treasure chest to the top which is a SAGE staff, but you must win a tough batle against two DARK WIZARDs and two MOONGODESSs. After that, heal your wounds; proceed to the left and enter the portal. In this next room just go down and enter through the door. Here you will be on the 3rd floor of the Lunar Underground, and you will see a sword above you. Touch the sword and a boss fight will ensue. BOSS FIGHT: WH. DRAGON (White Dragon) HP: 26,000 This boss fight is rather tough to win. Make sure Rosa casts FLOAT on the party so the party can avoid the QUAKE attack and also she should be the healer. Have Rydia summon BAHAMUT, have Edge attack regularly as well as Cecil, and have Cain JUMP. The WH. DRAGON's attacks are awfully strong so make sure you heal quickly and bring back any members from wounded condition. After the tough battle heal your wounds. After the WH. DRAGON has been defeated you will recieve the MURASAME. Equip it on Edge and go back to the entrance of the Moon's Core. (If you wish, you can just have Rosa cast TELEP, then re-enter the castle and touch both plates to refill your HP and MP.) Back at the Moon's Core entrance, go to the top right and enter the hidden passage. Go around and you will find a treasure chest which contains a DARKGEAR robe for Edge. But you must first fight a very tough battle against two DEMONSOLDRs. Now go back around and down into the next room. In this room is a treasure chest to the left through a hidden passage which contains a FLAMEBUTE whip for Rydia; equip it and move on. To the top left is a DRAGON shield, equip it on Cain and move on. In this room you will see a door in the middle. First go into the bottom right to get a DRAGON helmet; equip it. Also to the right through a hidden passage is a DRAGON armor; proceed to the left to collect a DRAGON gauntlet. After that head to the middle door and continue through. In this next room go to the right and pick up a set of 10 ARTEMIS arrows. Now continue down to the left room; inside is a treasure chest which contains an ELIXIR. Now head out; go to the right and down and into the next room. Inside, go to the top right and pick up a W. FANG. Continue to the left; at the end is an X-POTION. After you have picked that up, go to the next room. To the left is a treasure chest with a STARDUST rod, but a BEHEMOTH guards it. Defeat him, collect the treasure and continue to the right and into the walkway. In this next room you will see a sword to the right, but you can't get it yet, and I wouldn't reccommend you trying either. To the bottom left is a treasure chest; make sure Rosa is equipped with the ARTEMIS arrows before you open it. Open it and a RED DRAGON and a BLUE DRAGON will appear. After this tough battle you will recieve a special reward which is a CRYSTAL shield. Equip it on Cecil and move on. In this next room go to the top right and you will see a treasure chest; pick it up to collect a DEFENSE ring. Equip it on anybody and continue on towards the bottom of the cave. In this area go to the right and pick up the CRYSTAL armor, but you must defeat a BEHEMOTH for it. Now go back into the room and go up. Here you will see a treasure chest to the right: pick it up to fight two RED DRAGONS for a CRYSTAL guantlet. After you have picked it up and defeated the RED DRAGONs, go to the left and into the next room. Here to the left is a WHITE gown for Rosa, equip it and move on. Out here to the left is a CRYSTAL helmet guarded by a DARK WIZARD and a SKULLDRAGON; after that go to the right. Inside the treasure chest is a RED-FANG; collect it and move on. In this next room to the left is a set of 10 ARTEMIS arrows and to the right is a HELLWING dart. After picking those two up, go down and continue to the bottom right path, but make sure you first pick up a COTTAGE to the left. In this next room to the left is a MENERVA gown guarded by three MOONGODESSs and one DARK WIZARD. Defeat them, collect and equip the MENERVA gown, and move onto the right. In this next room go down and enter the first door: here is your first save spot in the Moon's Core. Heal your wounds and save your game. Then continue onto the right. In here there is a lance in the middle; touch it and a fight will ensue. BOSS FIGHT: PLAGUE HP: 30,000 He will immediately begin the countdown timer on your entire party, so you really have to move quickly. Here Have Cecil and Edge attack normally, have Rydia summon BAHAMUT, have Rosa use HASTE on Cecil and Edge, and have Cain JUMP. Also when your timer reaches "0" keep pressing A so that you character won't die off. After the battle the party will win the HOLY lance; equip it on Cain. Now return to your save spot and save your game to restore any lost MP. Now go to the next room to the right. Here in this room before you can reach the two treasure chests, two LUNASAURUSs approach you. BOSS FIGHT: two LUNASAURUSs HP: 15,000(each) They'll use BIO on your party, which will be pretty nasty. Have Rosa continually heal the party, have Cecil and Edge (and Rydia, if you have the DRAGON whip) attack regularly, and have Cain jump. If you don't have the DRAGON whip, have Rydia cast BAHAM, but it won't do much good because they'll instantly heal most of the damage. Just keep at it and don't hold back - remember that there's a save point nearby. You'll win two RIBBONs after the fight; equip them on Rosa and Rydia. Return back to the save point, save your game, and heal your wounds. Before you go forward, remember the room with the COTTAGE to the left? Well, return back there and to the left of the previous COTTAGE is an invisible bridge. Go to the left and at the top through the middle of the wall block is a staircase. This room is the B6 floor; at the bottom is a GOLDEN apple. Continue to the right to find a portal. Here just continue up the stairway and into another portal. Here you will be at B5; just continue straight up to find a treasure chest which contains another PROTECT ring, but you must defeat a BEHEMOTH to obtain it. After the battle, heal your wounds and continue upwards and into another portal. In here is a save room; save your game and continue on. In this area you will see a sword that you saw earlier. Before you touch it, fight around a bit and duplicate a few EXCALIBURs. BOSS FIGHT: DK.BAHAMUT HP: 30,000 Ouch! He will most likely start the battle off with M. FLARE which will probably kill off a few of your characters. Then he will put a RFLCT on himself then just start casting endless barrages of FLARE spells. Have Edge dart the EXCALIBUR swords, have Cecil attack, Cain JUMP and have Rydia either attack (if she has the Dragon Whip), use Asura, or defend, and have Rosa heal the party or use HOLY if she has it. Also have her use ARISE on anybody that is down. Keep this up and you should win the battle even though it will be an extremely difficult fight. After battle, you will recieve the RAGNAROK; equip it and move on. Now go back to the B7 save point and save your game again. Also try to duplicate as many EXCALIBUR and RAGNAROK swords as you can (at least 5 of each). After that go up and in the next room you will be in the Moon's Core. Pick up a HELLWING dart along the way; at the bottom is yet another sword, the MASAMUNE, guarded by another boss. BOSS FIGHT: TIDARITHIAN HP: 32,000 EXP: 12,200 Ouch again! He will start off the battle with a double BIG WAVE attack that can shave off about 1,200 HP of damage to every party member. Also he will use the BIG WAVE attack frequently along the battle causing about 500 HP of damage to every character. So hopefully you did duplicate those EXCALIBUR swords. Have Edge Dart the EXCALIBUR swords, have Rydia summon BAHAMUT, have Rosa bring back any party member from wounded condition with ARISE; also have her heal the party continually. Have Cain JUMP and Cecil attack regularly. Keep this pattern up until he is gone. After the tough battle you might want to go back to the save point and heal your wounds and save your game. Then continue towards the next room past the room where you had defeated the TIDARITHIAN. In this room to the bottom right is an ELIXIR; collect it and continue downward. Down towards the bottom of this room is a WHISTLE; after that continue onwards to the next portal. In this room to the bottom right is a HELLWING dart, and to the left is another HELLWING dart. Now continue towards the bottom right hand corner of the room and into the next area. In this area there are no treasure chests; just continue onwards to the next room. Restore all of your MP with your Ethers and EtherDry's before walking up! BOSS FIGHT: ZEMUS HP: N/A This fight you cannot control. FINAL BATTLE: ZEROMUS HP: 120,000(yes this is extremely close) Defend until you reach Edge's turn, then have him SNEAK. You will get a DkMatter. Just having this item in your inventory will lessen the damage of Zeromus's Big Bang spell! Now have Cecil use the CRYSTAL; this will make ZEROMUS change forms. And he must use the CRYSTAL, otherwise all your attacks will miss. Then have Cecil attack normally, have Rosa cast KEAL4 EVERY round, have Rydia summon BAHAMUT, have Edge Dart the CLEAVER (if you have it), RAGNAROKs, EXCALIBURs, and the GUGNIR lance, then the HELLWINGs; finally have Cain JUMP. Don't bother using protective spells like SHELL or RFLCT because his BLACK HOLE attack destroys them. Rydia has the weakest attack, so if any character is wounded, have her use a FENIXDWN on him so that the next KEAL4 spell will heal him. Use any items you need! Now sit back and watch an excellent ending! ----------VI. Items---------- ---Healing Items Potion Restores a small amount of HP. Bought, found, stolen, and dropped everywhere. GAME GENIE CODES---------- These codes were all obtained from the Game Genie Code Creator's Club (http://www.videogamesource.com/genie/). ---CODES, PART 1 This section contains codes created by: Aerostar13@aol.com. Created by: Aerostar (Aerostar13@aol.com) Date: 8/10/98 These codes are for the JAPANESE version of FF4, "hard type". I used the ROM address conversion technique to compare the Japanese and American games and adjusted some of the codes to the new memory addresses: 00CF-A469 The Gunslinger Code (original by Gunslinger) Put an item you don't want in the upper-left corner of your item inventory. Now put a healing item like Potion in the one right below it. Now use the healing potion on the CENTER member of your party. The one above it will change! Use this to cycle through all the items in the game! 0CC3-0F64 Walk through walls (original by Café Eblana) E3A5-64D0 All characters can equip any weapon or any armor (original by aerostar13@aol.com) 31EE-646D Go into a town and talk to a person. You will get into a battle, and you will have two party members: Golbeze and FuSoYa!. Golbeze's battle menu is just "Fight", but you can change it using other codes (try giving him "Twin"!) (original by lasy@concentric.net) ---CODES, PART 2 Created by: Enef4 (enef4@aol.com) 6667-0DA2 "SECRET CHARACTER CODE" It makes Kain invinsible when he jumps to strike an enemy - makes him a secret character. But remember to turn on effects or if an enemy uses a spell the game will freeze. EE67-OD02 "ANYTHING THAT CASTS A SPELL DIES" 6667-ODO2 "CHANGE CECIL AND ROSA INTO DARK KNIGHTS" When they use a white magic spell they start flashing but turn off effects or game will freeze: Warning! Retreat and you will see two dark knights on the moon. E567-ODO2 "SPELL DEATH AND SECRET CHARACTER" A person in your party or an enemy dies when they use any form of magic. Also when Cecil uses magic to cure he disappears and becomes a dark knight on the screen, makes him secret character, and from there follow the instructions for making a secret character like turning off effects and all that. AA67-ODO2 "CECIL TURNS INTO A DARK KNIGHT" This code was very weird! Cecil uses magic and turns himself into a dark knight. Then he can do dummy and floats in the air, and then follow instructions for making secret character. CC67-ODO2 "CECIL TURNS INTO GILBERT AFTER USING MAGIC" 9967-ODO2 "MAKE CHARACTERS INVISIBLE" It makes Cecil, Rosa, Rydia, and Edge invinsible when walking and is just a tiny little dot on a battle, they can't do anything. ---CODES, PART 3: Character Change Codes The process for using each code is the same, unless noted otherwise. Here is what to do: 1. Go in a battle with the Game Genie's effects off, then turn them on after battle starts. 2. Have one character use an item or spell, and they will glitch. 3. Run from the battle, and go to your menu screen. 4. Heal any status ailments of the new charcter, cure them, and revive them if needed. 5. Test the new character! Make sure you turn the effects off before you test. Some important things to remember when using: 1. Do not save games with new characters over your prized saved game! Make a separate saved game slot for wierd saved games. 2. Don't replace Cecil. You need him to finish the game. 3. If a code doesn't work, don't fret. Try it on a different character and see. Or, you may need to complete more of the game first. If you havn't even met a person first, the code will almost definitly not work. I.E., the FuSoYa code won't work in the beginning of the game. You need to have had him in a battle first. That brings us to the next topic... When Codes Start Working This is when we THINK the codes start working. If you find that one of these doesn't work, e-mail either SirGarland@aol.com or Strato508@aol.com. Cecil: From the begining of the game Kain: First time he fights Rydia: When you are attacked by the Titan and herself Rosa: First time she fights Tellah: First time he fights Edward: After the fight against Tellah Yang: When Yang is fighting the MomBomb Palom: First time he fights Porom: First time she fights Cid: First time he fights Older Rydia: First time you see her? We're not sure about this. The game may think of Young Rydia and Older Rydia as 2 different charatcers, but it might not matter. Golbez: You must beat the game first Edge: When you see him fighting Rubinchant FuSoYa: First fight he is in. (NOTE: Some codes may not work because of different verisons of FF2, Game Genie, and the SNES control deck.) (Editor's note: MANY of these codes do not work on this patch! Maybe it has something to do with the patch; I dunno. *^_^*) THE CODES CREATED BY: CHAOS550@AOL.COM & AEROSTAR13@AOL.COM 4D67-0D02: Character Copy Code This changes whoever uses it into the person at the top of the list of people. CREATED BY: STRATO508@AOL.COM EE67-0D02: Erases a character permanently. There are MANY of these but this is one. FF67-0D02: FuSoYa Code! This code gives you FuSoYa, and that is a PERFECT FuSoYa. Almost NONE of these codes give you a perfect character. You may have to use his magic a few times before it starts working good. AA67-0D02: A Dark Knight named Rydia. You get a Dark Knight that is named Rydia, his attack in battle is Recall. 3367-0D02: Kain the Dark Knight. Uses the Dark Knight body and Kain's menu. 4467-0D02: Eraser/Invincibility Code. This code will Erase a character, however, it does not kill them or erase them right away!!! It will take away their Stats, but they are still alive for the ONE battle that they are in. How is this useful??? Well, do this little trick and you will see! Go into the final battle against Zeromus. Before you use the crystal, use this trick on everyone EXCEPT Cecil. You have to keep someone alive, or you will perish. Then, have Cecil use the crystal. Now, Zeromus can attack anyone and only do damage to Cecil! You have about a 5 times better chance to beat Zeromus now!!! D767-0D02: SECRET CHARACTER! This is definitly unusual. It has a Dk. Knight's stats, Rosa's commands, equipped with all DesertLites, and it looks like Anna in battle and a pig on the map! Try this one out! D267-0D02: Gives you Palom but with only one battle command which doesn't seem to do much. 1267-0D02: Kain the Dark Knight! You can get the Dark Knight Cecil in your party with this code. He will be named Kain and he has Kain's menu. You can see Cecil Jump!!! 1367-0D02: Kain the Dark Knight 2! This is the same as above, only the Dark Knight has better stats. 2F67-0D02: Dark Knight Cid! This allows the Dark Knight to be named Cid and use Cid's commands (Peep, Fight, Item) The stats for the Dark Knight are: 14 STR, 0 AGIL, 14 VIT, 0 WIS, 14 WILL, 3 ATTACK, 24 DEFENSE, 148 MAG DEFENSE. 4D67-0D02: Perfect Copy of Rosa! This code will allow you to obtain a Carbon Copy of what Rosa is at your point in the game. This can be used to configure your own party to fight Zeromus. 4F67-0D02: Perfect Copy of Kain! This code will allow you to obtain a Carbon Copy of what Kain is at your point in the game. This can be used to configure your own party to fight Zeromus. 5267-0D02: Weird Kain This will give you Kain with the stats of 1 HP, 1 MP, Level 0, STR 0, AGIL 56, VIT 1, WIS 0, WILL 0, ATTACK 0, DEFENSE 0, MAG DEFENSE 8, Equipped with: Right Hand: 4 Head: Dummy Commands: Fight (Normal), Second Command is the command that was 2nd in the one you changed (Does a VERY weird thing. Sometimes it will glitch however so be careful. It seems to erase a whole row of enemies and then revive a whole row.) Third Command is the 3rd command in the person who you changed (Casts ICE 1 on anything), Fourth Command is OUR (This will glitch every time, I think it was taken out of the game.), and the Fifth Command is Fight (Normal Fighting). Use the second command on yourself to kill most of the enemies. 6167-0D02: Yang the Dark Knight! Stats: Str 1, AGIL 76, VIT 0 (Not sure if it is 0, my notes aren't very clear for this code.), WIS 99, WILL 1, ATTACK 43, DEFENSE 65, MAGIC DEFENSE 12, Equipped with Right Hand: Fire Claw75, Left Hand 2, Head: Wooden Hammer, Arms, Crystal Ring. Commands Fight Kick (Try this one out!!!!!!!!!!! It is like the Dark Wave attack that the clone uses in the stance he has, except, Cecil is air Borne!!!!) and item. 6767-0D02: Kain with Imp Call. Get a Kain with the Imp Call spell equipped for head. Unequip it and then change the character back with a "Perfect" code and you have the Imp Call spell. The Kain isn't really that great any way. 6867-0D02: Young Rydia Code! This code gives you Young Rydia!!!!!!!!!! The game will recognize her as Rydia. However, has the commands for Golbeze (OUR, Fight, Fight, Fight, Fight) so you can't have a good Young Rydia and an old Rydia in your party..... yet. 6A67-0D02: Erase? This code seems to erase a character from your party, however, the character still appears in battle and in the status screen. However, you can not use the character in battle, and the cursor in the status screen skips over the guy. You can use this guy as a Human Shield if you want the guy to absorb attacks. 6B67-0D02: Dark Knight with Crystal Sword! Get a Dark Knight equipped with a Ragnarok. You can use this at the beginning of the game. Unequip him and you can equip your paladin with the Ragnarok when you first get him. Change the guy back who you took it from and you will have a normal party again. DD67-0D02: Tella Code! This code allows you to get Tella. This Tellah is HARDLY perfect, but at least you can now play him after he died. Stats are: 0 STR, 3AGIL, 0WIS, 0 WILL, p52 HP, 1280 MP, 0 ATTACK, 100 DEFENSE, 0 MDEF, HEAD Charm Claw, Body Rune Axe, either character Garbage or Tella for the name in battle. Because of his low Agility, he almost never comes up in battle. Stats look like Gilbert. He is VERY Glitchy. CREATED BY: ANDREWGGW@AOL.COM A067-0D02: Dark Knight/Paladin! On menu and in battle and on map, name is Cecil, and has all the commands of a Paladin. He's not perfect, but pretty cool to see defend others as a D.Knight. A567-0D02 A Bard named Kain. Commands are Kains, get to see Gilbert Jump. He's equiped with Trash Cans on Head and Arms...LEAVE THE ONE ON HIS ARMS EQUIPED, IT'S EXTREMELY GOOD. A667-0D02- A D.Knight named Palom. Commands are Fight, Black, Twin, Item. He has no Black spells but he may gain some later . If you use Twin, he and Cecil will cast a twin spell and they will be in Cecil's stance for Dark Wave. He is also equiped with Trash Cans, again LEAVE THE ONE ON HIS ARMS EQUIPED. A967-0D02: A D.Knight named Tella. Commands are Fight, White, Black, Item. He has no spells but he may learn some later . Again, leave the Trash Can on his arms because it's very powerfull. BD67-0D02: A Bard named Palom. Commands are Fight, Black, Twin, Item. He has no Black spells but he may gain some later . If you use Twin, he and Cecil will cast a Twin spell; Cecil will be in his D. Wave stance and Gilbert will be in his Heal stance. Also, he's got a Crystal on his head and Diamond armor. D867-0D02: A young caller named Rydia. Commands are Fight, Black, White, Call, and Item. Rydia is an exact copy of Rydia at that point. She's equiped with 2 Shadow armors, 1 power armor, 1 Heroine armor, and a Black glove...good stuff. (EDITOR'S NOTE: This code may only work with some versions or only if you currently have young Rydia in your party. When I used with an older Rydia, I had strange results. A Dark Knight named Anna, who had a Pig map picture, had Porom's name in the battle screen, and looked like the previous Anna code. FB67-0D02: Rydia as a Bard! Commands are that of a Bard. Equipped with alot of good stuff. ED67-0D02: A Green Pig the size of a normal character, in battle, and his name is Golbeze. Commands are Fight, Dart, Sneak, Ninja, and Item. Un-equip the Dummy he's wearing, and use 1 of them its got a really cool effect. CREATED BY SIRGARLAND@AOL.COM: FD67-0D02: Perfect Edge DA67-0D02: A Better Golbeze! This code is better than the other Golbeze code. In this, Golbeze has a Fight and Item command, can use Black and White magic (Not in battle, only on menu. He doesn't have any White Magic, but maybe he can learn some.) Under his Black Magic screen he has a couple normal spells, a couple weird ones, but he also has Cure 4 and Life 2, which you CAN use. He comes at level 45, and it equipped with a spear, so it actually looks like he is fighting, not just fists. F467-0D02: Dr. Lugeie? This code is wierd. You get a guy who is a "Fight It", at level 0, is L/R both equippable, has Black; White; and Call magic (although he knows no spells), and looks like Dr. Lugeie on the map screen! CREATED BY: AEROSTAR13@AOL.COM: NOTE: These codes affect the person underneath the person who uses the potion or spell. AA67-0DA2: Lots of different varieties of Cecil (Don't ask - it's weird -use repeatedly with differnent guys) AE67-0DA2: Turns the character into a Dark Knight 867-0DA2: Turns the character into a Dragoon COPYRIGHT NOTICE: ALL Material in this section is (C) Copyright 1996, Game Genie Code Creators Club, All rights reserved. The Game Genie codes are by: Game Genie Code Creators Club http://www.videogamesource.com/genie/ --- Several documents were of invaluable help to me: The FF2 Cheat Sheet by Ben Siron (bensiron@cco.caltech.edu) helped immensely with the weapon/armor lists, as well as status problems and enemy species. Ian Kelley's (ikelley@mail.sas.upenn.edu) FF2/FF4 Changes FAQ helped a lot in pinpointing which items belonged where. Wizard 201's FF2 FAQ gave me the locations of weapons and armor which I hadn't come across. Finally, Zero Five's (Zero_5@juno.com) original FF4 FAQ was an excellent starting point for the FAQ.
