HISTORY OF THE FAQ

Version 0.4
While GameFAQs.com had a link to Secrets of the Sega Sages cheat to Cyber
Cycles, there were no FAQ files on the site whatsoever!  I was shocked to hear
this.  In appreciation to this, I have written an FAQ regarding about Cyber
Cycles.

Version 0.65 (July 5, 1998)
My website has been recently registered with the InterNIC!  Also, please note
that my e-mail and URL is now carrying the new Verasnaship.NET domain name.
There could be some changes possible because IMO there may have been some bugs
on the first version of this FAQ.

BASICS

Handling:  Handling in Cyber Cycles is determined by the size and the weight
of your machine.  You need to time your drifts correctly or you minus well
go out of the track for no reason.  There are some times when you need to
take out a turn ahead of time because you need some time to slow down.  The
bike is willing to slow down for you but you must determine if you have to
release the throttle or to grip the brake or not.  Knowing the depth of the
turns is crucial to your success in Cyber Cycles.

Braking:  Braking is accomplished by gripping the rightmost lever in the
bike.  Braking isn't always the solution to take down the turns in the game.
There are some instances that you have to avoid using the brake (i.e. this
applies to the Anthias).  Braking can help ONLY when you learn how to do
it ahead of time.  Try to brake a little and drift as you complete braking
for enhanced control.  Be careful not to go too fast, though.

Throttle:  This is the accelerator that increases your speed, but at times,
would help you reduce your speed for better control.  However, releasing the
throttle is a lot slower than braking, as it's really easy to be thrown off
the course if you do it too late.  I would try to do a combination of both
braking and throttling because at certain turns, you need to go slower for
better control.  Knowing when to brake, or release the throttle, or both is
the key to efficient riding.

Drones and Hazards:  Definitely make sure that you are not bound to drive out
of the course, and definitely stay away from the drones.  If you go outside of
the course, then you will lose precious speed as well as risking your chance
for the top.  Hitting the drones poses more of a threat because in the world
of Motorcycle Racing, a spectacular collision with a drone could REALLY ruin
your day.  The clock isn't your worst enemy in the game at all.  It's better
to run out of the course rather than hit the drone at speeds of up to 249kmh.
In order to sit for the top spot in the game, you should try not to hit the
drones neither get out of the track for any reason.

WARNING:  THE DRONES HAVE A BAD HABIT OF CHEATING.  IF THEY CRASH AND IF YOU
ARE WAY AHEAD OF THEM, BE PREPARED TO HAVE THEM CATCH UP WITH YOU.  AFTER-
WARDS, IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CATCH UP WITH THEM.  DON'T RACE DIRTY OR
YOU WILL PISS THE CPU OFF!

VIEWPOINTS

Cyber Cycles features three viewpoints that you can look at.  These views
include right in the biker's view, just close to your biker, and the Suzuka
view (That is, the view that you only had in Suzuka 8 Hours).  I would prefer
the Suzuka view for many reasons because then you have a much better view of
the action.  The default view is the view just close to the bike.

THE MACHINES

Cyber Cycles features three state-of-the-art, futuristic machines that can
variate the difficulty of the two courses that you will be racing in.  Even
though most people like Suzuka 8 Hours 2 (because of the amount of tracks),
or Motorcross Go! better than this game, I would say that this game has the
top honors because the choice of the machines is where the game's high point
lies at.

ANTHIAS
Skill:  Beginner
Rider:  Jennifer Lutzenkirchen, VSSE
Best feature:  Handling
Worst Feature:  Speed
Maximum Top Speed (Normal): 290kmh
Ideal Use: Green Hill

The Anthias is a good beginner's machine.  Since handling is a piece of cake,
it can take on the toughest corners with ease, but sadly it falls short of
speed because there are times when these darn green drones will try to "cheat"
on you.  I would definitely use the Anthias for a first couple of games just
to get used to the courses.  I would just play a few games of Suzuka 8 Hours
before you even try Cyber Cycles because this game is slightly harder than
its pre-System 22 counterpart.  For a Suzuka Convert, I think this should suit
you well.  However, once you mastered Neo Yokohama, then there's something
better for you.  The Anthias can get you the fastest lap on Green Hill, but not
on Neo Yokohama.

The reason why I am going to mention a lot about Jennifer Lutzenkirchen in this
guide is because not only she is a special operation agent for the VSSE (like
Richard, Keith, and Robert), but she's also a motorcycle and race-car driver.
If you want to bitch-slap me, then why don't you choose the Anthias as your
motorcycle before doing so.  Also, play Ridge Racer Revolution, and once you
earn the right to drive as the White Angel, save the Angel on your Memory Card
and play a few games as the White Angel.  Trust me.  Jennifer only chooses the
best motorcycles and race cars for each race.  Her car in the Ridge Racer races
is the White Angel.  Look for the Angel at the hood if you don't believe me.

I'm just gonna go back to Cyber Cycles Business.

NVR 750R
Skill:  Intermediate
Rider:  Morizuya Tachibana, Suzuka Racing Committee (Fictional)
Best Feature:  Speed
Worst Feature:  A little too hard for beginners to handle
Maximum Top Speed (Normal):  332kmh
Ideal Use:  Neo Yokohama

This is definitely the machine to master in order to get the fastest lap time
at Neo Yokohama.  A good balance of speed and handling helps the NVR excel in
certain areas but be aware that this machine is quite prone to certain sharp
turns because of its high curb weight.  Despite the weight problem, the NVR
won't be a problem for an expert player.  Just learn how to slow down ahead of
time and by learning how to release the throttle whenever necessary.  Once you
get the feel of the throttle and brake, this would be your machine for Neo
Yokohama.

WILD HOG
Skill:  Advanced
Rider:  Paul Phoenix of Tekken 3
Best Feature:  Powersliding allows for fast, powerful cornering
Worst Feature:  Powersliding can be hard for a beginner to handle, this bike
has the highest curb weight meaning that this is the most difficult bike to
master.
Maximum Top Speed (Normal): 324kmh
Ideal Use:  Neo Yokohama

The Wild Hog is everything what an American Bike should be:  High Torque,
powersliding for powerful cornering, and high torque for quick acceleration.
Sadly, since this bike has the highest curb weight of the three, you need to
allow lots of time to take down the corners or you minus well call that error
your last.  Always make sure that you negotiate your reaction to the turn by
slowing down ahead of time and bank to the desired direction.  Make sure that
you recover by the time you are finished taking out the turn.  Never, ever,
ever hit any drones while sliding--or you're in deep trouble.

Even though you should be familiar with Green Hill (from Suzuka 2), you will
need to be aware that the High-Speed Ess has been sharpened to give the track
an incredible challenge.  Use of the Anthias is preferred, but the NVR may or
may not be good depending on your needs.  Without any major accidents, you
should never have to worry about braking with the Anthias.  In order to sit
for the top spot using either the NVR or the Wild Hog, you will need to be
careful of the Corkscrew Curve and the High-Speed Ess since these two turns
are rather dangerous.

Corkscrew Curve
---------------
Anthias Players:  Start the turn from the outside, and then levitate to the
inside of the turn.  Although you don't have tremendous top speed as with the
NVR or the Wild Hog, the light weight should allow you to take this turn
without the need to grip the brake or release the throttle.  All it takes for
this turn is to start the turn as you are "touching" the turn caution sign.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  You may or may not be at 300+kmh when you are
about to take this turn.  Since these bikes are heavier than the Anthias, you
may have to cut down your speed to 215kmh (just before you take the turn), and
start from the outside.  Try not to slow down too late or you may have to deal
with the grass, something you don't want to touch anyway.  Try to land no
greater than 215 by the time you are about to touch the turn caution sign.

Seaside Curves
--------------
Anthias Players:  Check your position as you take the next three turns.  Drift
the bike to the direction the turn is facing ahead of time, and if you are a
careful rider, then you may not need the throttle or brake at all.  If you have
done the out-and-in from the Corkscrew, then you should be fine here.  If not,
then be prepared to use the brake.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  You need to be going no faster than 235kmh and be
taking each and every of the turns using the outside and inside to avoid grass
contact.  Always check your position by the time you are taking the turn, and
be sure that you start the turn ahead of time, or you may touch the grass.
The two turns near the checkpoint is a killer since you may be in an improper
lane as you are recovering from the second turn since the Corkscrew.

Dangerous Corridor, High-Speed Ess, and the Misty Curve
-------------------------------------------------------
Anthias Players:  You may or may not be in the extreme right after you pass
the time extension.  If this is the case, then you may have to lean right
immediately afterwards (but don't touch the areas outside of the track).
With regards of the High Speed Ess, lean the bike a little bit so you just
miss the out of track portion of the High Speed Ess.  The lower you are in
the Misty Curve, the faster you will go.  Remember, you should have good
handling when riding Jennifer Lutzenkirchen's motorcycle, so when taking
out corners, try to stay as low as you can.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  It may be necessary to do some slight braking
at the right turn right after the time extension.  You will need to start
the turn ahead of time in order to avoid going off the track at the left.
You may have to release the throttle a bit in order to avoid the edge of
the track at the High-Speed Ess Curve.  I found the High Speed Ess very
dangerous for NVR and Wild Hog Players because it's sharper than how it
was back in Suzuka 8 Hours.  At the Misty Curve, NVR players should be going
no more than 240kmh but with the Wild Hog, it's more effort because you have
to skid throughout the turn.

Mirage Curve
------------
All Players:  Move from the Outside into the Inside.  You don't need to brake
or release the throttle here because this turn is nice to you.  Without any
major accidents, your lap time should be at the 42"000 mark.  Anything below
that should be good.  BTW you must be at around the 2'07"000 mark for any bike
to take home first place.

Neo Yokohama is a course that has many weird sharps, many twists, blind turns,
and lots of areas that places our audience in extreme suspense.  Players race
around the futuristic setting that looks like future day Japan indeed.  You
will need to be a real bike diva in order to place in the top spot.

Kanzaki Tunnel
--------------
All Players:  Begin the race here.  Your first turn is a sharp right.  Move
from the outside, and as you pass the turn sign, go to the inside.  Timing of
the drift is important here.

After the first lap for Anthias Players:  It's noticeable why Jennifer of the
VSSE chooses only the best vehicles on any race.  Go to the farthest lane, and
when you are about to touch the turn right sign, then begin banking right.  If
done correctly, then you shouldn't have to worry about having to scrape the
edge.

After the first lap for NVR and Wild Hog Players:  My estimate for either of
these bikes is that you need to be starting the Kanzaki Turn at no more than
233kmh.  Make sure that you brake as soon as you hit the sign, and when you
touch the sign, lean to the right.  If your timing is tight enough, then you
shoudn't have to worry about hitting the edge.

Tangvik
-------
All Players:  Tangvik is an Ess that is so blind, many people screw up here.
You need to be standing just right of the center and as you see the sign, try
to gradually bank to the left.  When you touch the ess sign, now is the time
to do the gradual banking.  Too poor of a timing could result in a spectacular
crash that causes you precious seconds.  Be careful of any NVRs who try to
interfere with your timing in this point.

Starblade Curves
----------------
Anthias Players:  If you have timed the Tangvik correctly, congradulations.
Now move from the left side to the right side (but avoid contact with any NVRs)
and stay low for as much as you can for speed.  Some parts of the Starblade
Curves may be sharp so you may need to take some precautions.  When the SC
transforms into an easy left, bank left ahead of time, and as with the right,
stay low for as much as you can for speed.  If you time these curves correctly,
then you don't have to hit the edge at all.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  For the right turn, you need to be leaning right
just before the turn starts and be aware that an easy right can turn into a
medium right, so you may have to bank right, but the medium right could turn
into an easy left so be sure that you are banking left as soon as the left
starts.  To avoid hitting the edge, make sure that you are starting each of
these turns ahead of time.

Grobda Chicanes
---------------
Everybody assumes that the Grobda Chicanes are easy turns.  Wrong.  The Grobda
Chicanes are actually a sharp right to a sharp left, and a sharp left into two
more sharp right turns--just about enough to ruin your day at the arcade (and
begging the arcade operator for a refund).  To avoid any fradulent refunds,
please follow these steps:

Anthias Players:  Brake as soon as you see the sign, make sure that you are at
the outside of the turn, and as soon as you touch the sign, then you should
bank to the right to cut the apex.  For the two sharp left turns, watch your
position, and if you are thrifty during the chicanes, then you shouldn't have
to worry about taking the final two sharps at all.  You need to be going no
faster than 200kmh at this point, and take each part of the Grobda from the
out-and-in (and turning ahead of time) in order to avoid scrapping the edge.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  As soon as you hit the check point, start reducing
your speed, then as soon as you are about to touch the turn sign, begin to
bank throughout the Grobda Chicanes.  You need to watch your position here as
it's easy to scrape the edge here.  More importantly, you need to time the
right-to-left portion of the Grobda to avoid hitting the edge at the left-to-
right portion of the Grobda.  Be sure that you bank right to avoid scrapping
the left edge during the final right of the Grobda Chicane.  My estimate is
about 197kmh for these two bikes during the Grobda Chicane, but this depends
if you have watched your position and banks throughout the Grobda.

Xevious Ess
-----------
Anthias Players:  As soon as you see the sign, it's about time that you start
banking to the right.  When you take on the medium left of the Xevious, then
bank to the left immediately to avoid scrapping the right.  Repeat for the next
right-to-left turns.  The final turn of the Xevious Left is an easy left, and
just don't bother banking the bike (unless you think you are about to hit the
NVR) because the Anthias should go very fast during gentle turns like the final
easy left ending the Xevious Ess.  I mean stay low in the final turn of the
Xevious Ess for speed, but use out-and-in and ahead of time for the first three
turns.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  It's important to brake just as you are about to
touch the sign.  Start the turn from the outside and as you are about to touch
the sign, bank to the right for the first part of the Ess, then when you get
to the second medium left at the Xevious Ess, bank to the left as early as you
can to avoid scrapping the wall, and bank right ahead of time for the third
right.  I have no clue on how fast you will go on the fourth and final gentle
left since these bikes weren't made to stay really low on the easy turns as
with Jennifer's bike.  My estimates for the first three turns would be at
around 220kmh with the NVR.  You may be going too slow on the fourth turn
with the Wild Hog because all Paul loves to do is powerslide through turns!

Druaga Sharps
-------------
Anthias Players:  Make sure that you are at the extreme left before taking
this turn.  Brake just before you touch the sign, and as you touch the sign,
bank to the right.  You should be at the left right after the first Sharp,
but as you take the final part of the Druaga, release the pedal, and do the
same out-and-in (but make sure that you throttle as you take the second turn).
If done correctly, then you should maintain speeds in average of 205kmh.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  You MUST brake ahead of time or you may minus well
wind up scrapping the edge.  Make sure that you are not exceeding 198kmh by
the time you are about to touch the sign.  Definitely use the out-and-in
routine with the NVR.  For the second turn, release the throttle, and as you
use out-and-in, throttle to the max.  If you done this correctly, then you
should average about 203kmh with the NVR.  With the Wild Hog, all it takes
is precise out-and-in, braking, and throttling, and you should be averaging
about 204kmh if you can do this turn correctly.  Just watch out for other
NVRs as you undertake these turns.

Galaxian Triangle
-----------------
I found the Galaxian Triangle a lot more dangerous than the Casio Chicanes
at the Suzuka Circuit in Suzuka 8 Hours.  Entering this turn, I'm assuming
that you know how to undertake the Casio Chicane in Suzuka 8 Hours.  Learn how
to undertake dangerous chicanes like this one first at the Casio Chicane in
Suzuka 8 Hours.  Once you get comfy with this Suzuka's Casio Chicane, then
you should lessen the severity of this turn.

Anthias Players:  You need to start the turn from the outside of the triangle.
You need to be going no faster than 190kmh right here.  Brake to no faster
than 190 as you touch the sign, then begin to bank as you touch the sign.  You
may need to apply just little brake in order to avoid scrapping the edge but
that depends if you can turn ahead of time for each of the three sharp turns.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  I found this turn to be such a pain in the ass
because there are railings on both sides of the track.  As soon as you touch
the pedestrian crossing paint on the road, brake, and try to start the turn
as early as possible and use the out-and-in.  During the turn, it may be
necessary to apply little brake to avoid scrapping the edges.  Don't apply
too much brake during the turns as slowing down too much is bad.  You need
to stay under 186kmh during this turn.

Override
--------
All Players:  Long Easy Left.  Move from the outside and into the inside and
stay low on the Override for some speed.  Don't get too confident with the
turn or you will go onto the edge, something that you don't want to do.  Just
stay low just right that you won't go inside the edges of the track.  You
shouldn't be going any faster than 245kmh here.  Then at the straight, keep
the bike floored on a straight line for speed.  With the Wild Hog, be sure
to recover the normal stance as you finish the Override.

Stanhope Curve
--------------
All Players:  Take the turn from the out-to-in.  Start banking as soon as you
are near the turn sign.  You need to start the turn from the left and start
banking as you touch the sign to avoid a possible edge-scrape.

Aensland Curve (after the fourth time extention)
------------------------------------------------
Anthias Players:  This turn is a pest, but Jennifer Lutzenkirchen should have
no problems with this turn.  As soon as you pass the Stanhope Curve, lean a
little bit to your left and when you are about to hit the sign, then bank to
your right as hard as you can immediately.  You should be thrown into the left
of the track when you are finished with the Stanhope Curve.  If you bank hard
during all of the turn, then you should be OK.

NVR and Wild Hog Players.  You may need to brake as soon as you are about to
touch the sign.  You need to start banking hard to the right as soon as you
touch the sign.  Although Aensland Curve shoudn't be that bad, you need to
be taking the turn from out-and-in, banking ahead of time, and going no faster
than 220kmh to avoid any intercourse with the track edges.

Michelin Circle
---------------
Anthias Players:  When you are about to touch the sign, bank the bike as hard
as you can to the left.  It's OK to start the turn from the outside but you
need to check your position as you take this turn.  Be careful of any NVRs on
your way, though.  Make sure that you keep your bike floored straight before
the Michelin.  Though Jennifer can't achieve speeds of over 300kmh on the
straightaways (Jennifer of the VSSE drives the White Angel during street car
races), she can laugh on this turn without too much effort.

NVR and Wild Hog Players:  It may be possible that you need to brake as you
are about to touch the sign!  You can brake as you undertake the turn, but
it's rather dangerous to do so.  You may wish to take the turn from the inside,
but I can't recommend it.  Anyway, you need to be going no faster than 214kmh
throughout this turn and watch your position as you take this turn because
you're bound to face stiff resistance from those darn NVRs on the way.

Aftermath
---------
All Players:  You need to take the Michelin Circle according to your own
experience.  Once you are about to take on a medium right, then now is a good
time to bank right to avoid scrapping the left side.

To finish Neo Yokohama, you need to achieve a Lap 1 time of under 1'59"000
and a Lap 2 Time of under 1'57"000.  To bid for first place, you need to spend
no more than 1'55"000 on either laps.  A first lap achievement of around
1'54"000 and a second lap achievement at around 1'52"000 should be good.
