Story ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- This is the story for Castlevania (64) but remember it really doesn't have much connection to Symphony of the Night. Actually it doesn't have much a connection to any of the Castlevania games. In earlier times, peace and prosperity reigned across the land, and no- one thought to question their good fortune or fear for the future. Then, In the middle of the 19th century, a dark shadow spread of Wallachia, Transylvania, home to many a vampire legend. The spirits of the depraved and corrupt had roused the king of evil from his enforced sleep of 100 years. Shapeshfting into a bat, wolf or coils of mist, he stalked the land, Seeking the dark and shunning the light, he cursed the gods as he hunted. Dammed to eternal life, he sucked the blood of one young maiden after another. Count Dracula, Lord of Darkness and Master of the Castle of Death, had risen again. The peace and prosperity of the people utterly destroyed, a black cloud of despair spread over the land. Evil beings roamed through the towns, and those who refused to pledge allegiance to Dracula died horrible deaths. It was then that two warriors came forth, called by fate to hunt down the Lord of Darkness and deliver the people from his evil. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 3.a) Characters - Reinhardt Schneider ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- He is the only male ancestor of the holy vampire killers of the Belmont Clan. He has come to destroy Dracula with the weapon of all Belmonts, the Holy Whip. "Heir to the ancient Belmont clan of vampire hunters, hi blood dooms him to oppose the might of Count Dracula. Wielding the holy whip of his ancestors, the young vampire killer begins his quest." Each character has two weapons: Main Weapon - The Holy Whip Secondary Weapon - Sword Also Reinhardt has some differences to the female character Carrie. Strengths - He is Stronger so he does more damage. Reinhardt also is stronger enabling him to take more hits and live. His sword does more damage than carry and also his whip usually does more damage than her balls ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 3.b) Characters - Carrie Fernandez ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- She is a so called "Witch" in her town because she and her parents have special "powers" she has gotten into trouble and was made to see her mothers death because she was hung by the towns people. "A young girl with great magical powers. Sensing Dracula's return, she sets off alone to the dark castle. Now she must wield her inherited power in the fight against evil." Each character has two weapons: Main Weapon - Energy Balls Secondary Weapon - Rings Strengths - She is quicker and can jump further that Reinhardt. Also she has long distance main weapon so she can stand far from her enemies and not be hit. Also she can avoid attacks because she's smaller than Reinhardt and wont be as easy of a target. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 4.a) Controls - a-type ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- These are the default controls for the game: A - Jump B - Use main weapon Z - Duck or slide R - Look at enemy or get behind character L - Nothing C-Down - Use extra weapon (ie. Normal Skeleton ? Thrower Skeleton ? Bomb Skeleton ? Bats ? Weretiger ? Werewolf ? Giant Skeleton ? Motorcycle Skeletons This is the first level in the game. When you start you'll be introduced to the game with a cut-scene just rotating around your character. Now after it's finished you'll be in control. Now start to run forward. When you get close to the first tree bolt of lightning will strike and hit the tree. This will cause it to split and fall. Run to it then either go around or jump over. Now keep going and it will happen again to the next tree. Once there both burning on the ground (wouldn't the rain put it out?) keep going straight. You'll see that there are 3 torches that are burning. There are 2 on the ground. Go and slash at them 2 with your secondary weapon. After you destroy them an item will come from it. You will get a Knife Extra weapon and a Large Red Jewel. No to get the third one on the tall pillar you have to jump to the broken one that's on the right. Once up there you have to do a running jump to the other one. In this you'll get your first healing item which is a Roast Chicken. Now jump down and head down the path that leads on. You'll soon come to a part where there is a skeleton on the ground and a bit further there is a dead human body. Once you get close to the human you'll get a cool cut-scene. After that you'll have to kill the 3 skeleton guys. Just whip at them once or twice each and they should die. Also remember if you only hit them and knock them from the torso they will keep crawling on the ground toward you. So if they do that hit them again. Now once all three of them are dead you can move on. Go to the big gate thing. There is a big plate on it so jump and hit it a couple of times with your secondary weapons. Once the plate falls you'll have to fight a mini-boss and he isn't to simple. Mini Boss - GIANT SKELETON This is the first boss in the game he isn't that easy when you first play him. To kill him first stand back as he comes through the gate. After he in a standing position just get in close so your aimer is on him then whip or shoot at him. After you do this a couple of times and he has already released about 6 skeletons on you, he will start to run from you. He'll just run through the now open gate and down a bit further. Once he stops he will start unleashing more and more skeletons. If you have to kill them but don't unless they're killing you. Keep slashing at the Giant Skeleton. Soon he will either run back to the first spot of move on to the edge of the cliff. If he goes to the edge of the cliff hit him 2 or 3 more times and he should stop and jump of the cliff. Once you have made the Giant Skeleton run from you two platforms will rise from the ground in the cliff. You have to get to the other side so make a running jump from the side your on and then to the other platform and then finally to the other side. Now that your in a new area you will see a couple new enemies. Not hard ones but they can do a bit of damage. Start heading up and you should see come to a sign that points to the upper left of your spot. Instead of following it because it only leads to a shit gate go the other way. If you need to save though follow it and use the save point. Now head down the right path. You'll come to a overhanging part that seems like a gate was there. Inside you should see that there are 2 buildings. There is one of them straight ahead of you. There's also a taller one to the right. Go into both of the buildings and inside each there is a torch and In the small one a Moon Card and in the larger one there is a Sun Card. From here go toward the smaller one that had the Moon Card. To the side of it there is a little stair thing sticking out from the ground. If you go to them and run up then jump from the top of them you should be able to make it to the top of the smaller building. Once up you can get the Large Red Jewel. On the smaller building you can then make a running jump from the very edge to the other building. This might take a few tries but the Food is worth it. Once you make it in the torch is a Roast Chicken. From this building jump of and go straight. You should come to another cliff. From here you have jump to the platforms in the middle and then to the other side. Once on the other side hit the torch and get what's inside. Also watch out for the 2 bats that will attack you when you get near the torch. Kill them with your sword or rings. Now look at the back of the little square shaped pole in the middle. There is a switch you can pull that is on the back (toward the torch). After you pull it you'll see a gate somewhere else open. Now skeletons will pop up and also another Mini Boss! Mini Boss - WERETIGER This guy is simple all you have to do is run around the middle and when you're behind him or far ahead turn and hit him with your whip or ball. Whatever you do, do not get near him. He'll go for a punch and grab you. Then he'll throw you and it does major damage. It should only take about 3 fully charged Magic balls, or 5-6 cracks with the whip. Also watch out for the skeletons that are about to `cause they will kill you. After you have killed the Weretiger turn around then jump back to the other side of the cliff using the same platforms as before. Once back to the other side run past the tree and back to the two buildings that had the Sun and Moon cards. Now go left and head back out of the area. You'll soon come back to a sign you would have seen earlier. This time follow the arrow up toward the now open gate. Make sure you save before entering just in case. Before heading in you'll have to kill a bone- throwing skeleton so watch out. After you make it through you'll be in a part, which has a and a torch on top in the middle. Go up to it and if you read the little plate on the right side you will get a chicken. Once you are ready you have to head down the path that is on the right because there is nothing on the left only a wall. Once you start going you will soon come up to another pole with signs but this time there are 2 of them. You have to head straight, or down the right path. After you head down that direction for a while you will come to yet another cliff. This one though has the 2 platforms and some parts sticking out of the wall. So jump to the first platform in the middle then to the second one then to the other side of the cliff. Now this time in the torch is a Roast Beef. Grab it then hit the switch on the back of the square pole. This time though you won't have to fight a Weretiger. Turn around and go toward the cliff but this time the 2 platforms that were hanging in the middle have now fallen. What you must do is jump down the out sticking part on the side of the cliff. Once you make to the bottom after doing about 10-15 parts you will be at the bottom. Whatever you do, do not go into the water because it's automatic death! Now you should see that to the 2 platforms that were up in the air are now down here. (Why cant there ever be an non-broken bridge?) So jump to the first one then to the second. This next jump is a bit tricky. You have to make it from the part your on to the part sticking out that's pretty far. To do it get a big run up then jump also make sure to hold the jump button once you take off because you have to grab on and pull up. If you make it you can just jump up the platforms that shouldn't be a hassle. Once you make it back to the top of the cliff start going. Once you make it back to the sign head right and there should be a newly open gate. Head down and threw it. You'll soon come to a new part that has 3 buildings in it. If you go into one of the buildings you'll see that it has some caskets and 2 stories. To blow the caskets ether slide at them of duck and slash with your secondary weapon. Inside them there might be an item. To get to the upper part just jump out and toward the upper area. You'll grab on and then pull yourself up. Once you go into all 3 buildings, one doesn't have any caskets, you can move on. Head toward the edge of the cliff, which is to the left of the part you came in from. Once there kill the guy standing on the first platform with a throwing item. (Knife or axe) Once he's gone jump to the platform once here you can find the first SECRET ITEM in the game. To get it you'll see that there is a floating platform to one side. To get there head straight on and make a running jump. You wont make it but you'll land on an invisible platform from which you can run to the torch. Blow it and you'll get the green item. Now make a running jump back and jump to the other side of the cliff. BTW the item is access to the HARD mode after you have completed the game! Now in a new area move on up and you'll come to a new area that has an arch above you when you enter. Now this part can be tough because you have to fight a new enemy, The Werewolf, and he is actually pretty tough. He's on the left of the statue ad the small brick wall surrounding it. So when he charges at you make sure your ready to dodge that hit him. Keep doing this and make sure when he jumps you move around fast because that move takes out the most. Once he's dead run up the statue and read the little plat. You'll receive another Roast Beef. Now head left because to the right is a locked gate the leads to the end of the level and also the BOSS. Once you go for awhile there will be a left turn then you'll eventually come to the end of this part and there is a cliff. If you look to the other side you can see that it is a place you've been before. Now down here hit the switch that's behind the small square shaped pole. This will open a gate back toward the three rooms with caskets. Head back there and once you get there the gate that you might have noticed before is now open. If you go through you'll see the same pole with the switch and the two torches by it. After you hit it make sure you get the Roast Beef that is to the side of it. After you have gotten the food head back to the part with the three houses with caskets. Now go to the edge of the cliff that you came from just then and jump back across. Once here go through the gate then go right. You'll come to a newly open gate and a save point. Save first then head through the gate and make sure you have close to full health. Once you head in and get close to the actual castle the Giant Skeleton will rise from the cliff. Level Boss - GIANT SKELETON Once you start he'll run to one side of the area. What you need to do is kill the Motorcycle Skeletons. Just jump far from the skeleton and look for them. Now just hit them a couple of times. They should fly off of the bike and it will crash and burn. Now once you do it to both of the guy's head for the skeleton and start hitting him. He will bring up hordes of normal skeletons but don't kill them until you hit the boss to start and run to his next position. Keep doing this and he shouldn't take to long. He will first lose and arm, after that and you hit him more he will lose his legs. Don't think you're done `cause he can still crawl and whack you with his bone. A few more hit's and he'll be gone! Now to finish the level run to the cliff next to the Castle Wall! You'll get a cut-scene (what's up with Reihnhardts shoes?) You'll enter the next level the CASTLE WALL. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 5.b) Level Guides - Castle Wall ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Enemies ? Normal Skeleton ? Bomb Skeleton ? Fire Breathing Skeleton Heads ? Electric Balls ? Bats ? Snake Heads When you first start this level make sure you go and save at the save point. Once you do if you look up further there's a door. This is the one you can go in `cause the other one is locked. (for now) Ok go through the door and you'll be in a small but tall room. You'll see yourself so run toward the screen and to the right (his left) and go around the lit torch statues you'll soon come to a set of stairs that circles the room. Start to head up them and you will some come to a missing part that has a Dragon Head on a pole. He'll shoot at you so you better be quick and hit it a couple of times and it'll break like in the SOTN. Now wait `till the moving platform comes close enough so that you can jump to it. Once it is do it and if it's about in the middle of both side jump to the other side. Now climb up some more stairs and watch out for bats that might attack you. Once you get to the next missing part watch out for the dropping blade at the edge. This time though the platform doesn't come all the way. So jump when you know you can make it. If you do head up some more also looking out for electric balls on the way up. When you get to the next space watch out. Not only is there a blade on both side of it but the platform comes only half way to you. So you have to jump at the right time or you'll plummet and die. If you make it to the other side run up a little set and watch for the three bats that are on the roof at the top. Once you're their head through the door at the end. Mini Boss - Snake Heads This is actually one of the hardest bosses in the game for Reinhardt but it's not as hard for Carrie. To kill them just at the first one just either shoot (for Carrie) or throw axes (if your Reinhardt) After a while the first one will burn up and it will just be a skeleton. It's still not dead though! Keep throwing or shooting until it shoots a big burst of blue fire that is almost impossible to evade. Once this one is dead move on and do the other one this one is a bit easier because you get a better view of it. Once it is dead it's over. Now go and jump up the little part that's up on the side. There's a torch that has a Roast Chicken in it. Now go and pull the switch that's by the first head. It'll move the cogs and lower the gate on the right. Now run and jump down it. You'll probably land on a platform that has a save point on it. Save your game (you won't want to climb the stairs or kill the boss again) Soon skeletons will start rising from the ground. If you move around the edge there's a torch that has a card in it. Now jump down to the next platform and to the next. Now you'll now be in a small room that has a small part with a power up. Grab it then in the back on the left there is a little drop that you have to fall through. Also watch out for all the skeletons `cause the can do a lot of damage. Once your own at the bottom you'll be back in the hall with the save point that you started in. Now that the roller gate is down you can head through. In the middle of the room there is a torch and it has a key to open the other door in the hall. Also there is a torch on each side that has an Axe in one and a Knife in the other. Once you're ready to move on head through the other door that's on the other side of the hall from the save point. Unlock the door with the key then head through the now unlocked door. In this part you'll already be up high. Now head up toward the going around the part. You' soon come to a part with the floor that will fall down when you step on them. So when it starts to fall jump far ahead that won't fall. Now start running up the stairs and you'll come up to the first hole in the ground. So you just have to make a leaping jump to the little platform. Also make sure you don't land in the spike on the spinning turquoise spinning part. If you make it to the next part of the stairs you'll have to run up some more. Watch out for the electric balls that will appear in front of you and try to hit you. Once you get to the next gap there are four of those spinning platforms. This part you can do two different ways. 1) You can wait for the second platforms to spin around an then jump the second they do and only fall onto the second and fourth. 2) Or you can quickly jump to the first and third one because they will spin when you land on it. Once you make it to the other side. Now just run up to the next part and your at the op. Kill the bats that are up at the top. Now you'll be at a door that will NOT open unless it is night time so either wait or use a moon card. Once you get through the door you'll be in the same sort of room with the two heads. But there aren't any bosses this time. Just run up to the switch and pull it. This will cause a cut-scene. It's pretty cool and it gives a bit of info on some other things. Once it's done just run to the lowered gate. This room is almost identical to the other side. Make your way down to the bottom and on your way you can pick up a few items in the torches scattered around. Once you make it back down to the bottom where you first started you just have to head through the second open gate that has now been lifted. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 6. Items ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- In this game there are tons of items to help you on your quest. Some are the same as past games but a bunch are new or changed. ======================================================================= == Roast Chicken ======================================================================= == This is a healing item and you can find a lot of them. This will heal you 50% so you'll probably use this healing item the most. ======================================================================= == Roast Beef ======================================================================= == This is another healing item. This one is more powerful and will heal you 80%. Only use this one when you're almost dead or out of Chicken. ======================================================================= == Medical Kit ======================================================================= == This is the most powerful healing item in the game. I've only found one but you can buy them. These ones will heal you 100% no matter what. ======================================================================= == Red Jewel ======================================================================= == This is what a heart was in all of the other Castlevania games. This will enable you to use your extra weapons. You can only hold 100 but make sure you always have a good supply. ======================================================================= == White Jewel ======================================================================= == This is a save point. You'll find them all over. Make sure you use them, a lot. It will only save to a controller pak to the file you started with. ======================================================================= == Cure Amples ======================================================================= == This is a great item to have. It will heal you of a poison effect. If you get poisoned make sure you use one right away. ======================================================================= == Purifying Crystal ======================================================================= == This item is like the Cure Ample because this one cures the Vamp. Effect. Use this if want to be able to heal and use your main weapon. ======================================================================= == Sun Card and Moon Card ======================================================================= == These are the equivalent as to the Sun Song in Zelda. A Sun Card will make it 6:00 a.m. A Moon Card will call the night. It will make it 6:00 p.m. Be sure you don't use to many of either of these items because you will have to fight Vincent and you will get the bad ending. ======================================================================= == Gold ======================================================================= == This is just money, you can get it in different amounts. If you're playing on the EASY setting you can't get any because you have a never ending amount of it. ======================================================================= == Powerup ======================================================================= == This will make your main weapon stronger. You can only pick up certain ones up though. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 7.a) Extra Weapon - Knife ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- Red Jewels Needed - 1 The dagger is just like it is in the other Castelvania Games. You can throw it in a straight line toward your enemy. It can only hit 1 enemy at a time and it doesn't do much damage. Once you throw the dagger it gets to your target pretty fast. Also the dagger is a great weapon just to kill enemies from far back because if your Schneider your whip might not go as far as you might want so just throw a knife or two at the enemy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------7.b) Extra Weapon - Axe ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------Red Jewels Needed - 2 The Axe is stronger that the Dagger and is sometimes better in every aspect. It's a bit harder to usr because it "arcs" in the air when thrown. It also can be thrown different distances, which is a plus. You can throw it short or you can throw it far. This axe is much more powerful too but it also takes more red jewels. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------7.c) Extra Weapon - Holy Water ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------Red Jewels Needed - 3 This is another extra weapon. It is actually very good if you can get the enemies into it. It doesn't work on many bosses but it helps to wipe out the enemies that help them. It does though take a bit of Red Jewels so you have to watch out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------7.d) Extra Weapon - Cross ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------Red Jewels Needed - 5 This is the strongest of the extra weapons and it isn't all that great. It helps on some bosses but it doesn't go far enough and it take way to many Red Jewels. If you have to get it do but use the Axe if you can it's the best out of them all. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 8. Enemies ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- In this Castlevania there are tons of different enemies and they each have there own strengths and weaknesses. Here they are and before each level guide there's a list of all the bad guys found in that level. ======================================================================= == Normal Skeleton ======================================================================= == This is you basic enemy in this game. They're in most levels and do minimal damage. They can be tough sometimes because they rise from the ground usually in groups from 2 - 5 and that can get tough. They're easy to kill. I think it's easier with Reinhardt because he's more powerful and his hit's are faster. Strengths - They attack in groups and they all beat on you at once. Weaknesses - They're weak and can't handle to much. The aren't that fast so you can run from them if you want. ======================================================================= ==Bone Thrower (skeleton) ======================================================================= == These are like your basic skeleton except they usually don't rise from the ground and they stay in one place and throw bones at you. There usually aren't to many and I've never really seen them in groups. They can be easily defeated with one or two hits with your extra weapon or a quick couple of hits up close. Strengths - They can throw bones at you that do a bit of damage. Also they can throw them pretty quickly and have a never ending supply. Weaknesses - They are usually on they're own and are in one spot. They can't handle much just like the normal skeleton. ======================================================================= == Bomb Skeleton (blue) ======================================================================= == These are the toughest of the skeletons and luckily they aren't in to many places. When they are near you though you must be cautious and always listing for the sound it makes when they come up and get near you. You can kill them in one hit with anything because they explode. Also they can help you by hurting their own guys. Strengths - They can blow you and take out tons of health. Weaknesses - They're slow and not very smart. They also can be destroyed in one hit with anything. ======================================================================= == Werewolf ======================================================================= == This is something right out of a horror movie. . er wait it all is. Anyway they are pretty tough to kill especially because they're about 10 times faster than you are and can jump way higher than you. The only thing you got over them is strength and brains. You shouldn't have a killing them once you see there attack pattern. Strengths -They are super fast and can jump super high. Weaknesses - Usually use the same attack pattern. They are also not very strong and don't do that much damage. ======================================================================= == Weretiger ======================================================================= == This is usually a mini-boss in a couple of level but he's not in many levels. They are one of the easiest enemies though because there are big, dumb, and really slow. They can do massive amounts of damage if they grab you but you can actually run circles around them. T kill them just jump behind him and hit him a few times. Strengths - There huge and super strong. Weaknesses - They're dumb and will follow you around. There really slow and take a long time to turn around in a circle. ======================================================================= == Motorcycle Skeletons ======================================================================= == These guys don't make much sense considering the date and when the motorcycle was invented. Anywho there actually one of the hardest enemies because they're fast and when they hit you, you are down for a while. To kill them easily try to get to an open space and just get them to stop and turn and then hit them a few times. Strengths - There fast, do a lot of damage, and hit you to the floor for a while. Weaknesses - They can't turn very well and they can level you for a wide open target. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 9. Secrets ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- In this Castlevania as in all of the others there are tons of secrets and here are the ones I've found so far if you find more or there one that isn't exactly right e-mail me and tell me. ======================================================================= == Level 1 - Forest of Silence ======================================================================= == Secret 1 This one is right at the beginning. After you past the two trees you'll see that there are two torches in between two pillars. There's also one on the tall pillar. You can get to it by jump to the small one then make a jump to the big one. You'll get some food for doing it! Secret 2 This one is a big secret that let's you choose the HARD setting after you beat the game. To get it once you reach the part where the Thrower Skeleton is kill him and jump to the pillar in the middle. If you look to one side you'll notice that there is a torch there and it's to far to jump. So just walk, make sure your straight on with it and you can just walk across an invisible part. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- 9.
