INTRODUCTION
=====================================================

Q: What's Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey-Bu?
A: Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey-Bu was a hockey game developed by the now-defunct
Technos Japan Corp. The game starred characters from the Kunio-kun series.
There are two mode of play: Scenario Mode and Taisen Mode. In Scenario Mode,
Kunio, the captain of t
Dodge Ball Club, takes the leadership of Nekketsu High's Hockey Club away from
Youichi due to the team's poor performance under his leadership. Now, under
Kunio's command, the Nekketsu Hockey Club must win an Inter-School tournament.
Taisen Mode is th
game's main Versus Mode, where you and another player gets to choose between
eight of the game's eleven teams to see who's the best player. A third and
fourth players can join in as goalkeepers (same thing with Scenario Mode).

Q: What's Crash 'n the Boys Ice Challenge?
A: Ice Challenge was an intended Americanized version of Nekketsu Hockey-bu.
This game was advertised in Crash 'n the Boys: Street Challenge as a spin-off
to that game. It was also previewed in several gaming magazines such as
Nintendo Power, Electroni
Gaming Monthly and Game Players. Sadly, Ice Challenge was never released.

Q: Wait, this game sounds familiar!
A: ROM sites have been calling this game under the inaccurate title of Technos
Ice Hockey, which is the same game.

Q: Isn't there already an FAQ to this game?
A: Yes, but it's based on a rather inaccurate translation of the game. My FAQ
is based on the official Japanese version and has all the correct names for
teams and players. My FAQ also features passwords and secret codes and it's
more up to date.

Q: What differences were their supposed to be in Crash n' the Boys: Ice
Challenge?
A: All the characters got their name changed obviously. The Dodge Ball team you
control at the beginning of the game seems to be the same in the American
version, but the main Hockey team seem to have different players. For example,
Youichi, the captain
is replaced by Cheese (AKA Sugata) from Street Challenge. I don't remember much
else, because the only magazine that featured a proper preview of the game was
the April 93 issue of EGM and I lost that issue of the magazine.

Q: Why did American Technos canceled Crash 'n the Boys: Ice Challenge? Is there
a prototype?
A: I have no idea. I guess it has something to do with the poor sales of
Crash's Street Challenge or maybe it was Nintendo Power`s bad review of the
game (which was kinda stupid, since Nekketsu Hockey-bu is one of the better
NES/Famicom games out there)
American Technos actually had plans to release a whole lineup of Kunio-kun
games under the Crash 'n the Boys series. The series would also included other
games like Soccer Challenge for the NES (AKA Kunio-kun no Nekektsu Soccer
League), Street Dodge Bal
(Nekketsu Koukou Dodge Ball-bu: Kyouteki! Toukyuu Senshi no Maki) and Street
Challenge (Bikkuri! Nekketsu Shinkiroku: Dokodemo Kin Medal) for Game Boy and
Super Dodge Ball 2 (Kunio-kun no Dodge Ball dayo Zenin Shuugou) for the SNES.
None of these games
re ever released in America, which is sad considering their qualities.

A prototype of Crash 'n the Boys: Ice Challenge was seen around the
Classicgaming Expo of 1999. The proto was said to be 40% English and 60% still
in Japanese.

Q: What does the Japanese title mean?
A: Go Go! Nekketsu Hockey Club: Multi-Sport Riot. The name Nekketsu means
Hot-Blood, so why did I left it untranslated? Because Nekketsu sounds better.
The Multi-Sport in the game’s subtitle refers to the various non-hockey teams
in the game such as the
aseball team and the Kendo team to name a few.

Q: Why aren't the Dodge Ball team, Banba and Shitenouji not playable in the
game's Vs. Mode?
A: The Hockey team is the same as the Dodge Ball team, except it has variable
power shot. Banba and Shitenouji are just stronger versions of the Shirogane
team.

MAIN MENU
At the main menu, you can choose which mode you want to play by moving the
cursor with the D-Pad. Press A or Start to confirm your choice. The game modes
are as followed:

Scenario (1P)
The main story mode. You will take command of the Nekketsu High School Hockey
Club as they enter in a national Hockey tournament. As you'll progress through
the Scenario Mode, you will get to wear your defeated opponent’s uniforms,
which gives you new
ilities.

Scenario (2P)
Same as above, except the 2nd player gets to play as the team's goalkeeper.

Taisen (2P)
Player 1 & 2 fight against each other in this Versus mode. You get to play as
one of the following teams:
Nekketsu Hockey-club (regular uniform), Kendo Club, Baseball club, Yurigaoka,
Hanazono, Tanibana, Shirogane and Daizetsudan.

Taisen (4P)
 Same as above, only it's Player 1 & 2 against Player 3 & 4. Player 2 & 4 are
the goalkeepers.

Password
After choosing Scenario Mode, you will be asked to enter a four-digit
password. You can choose the digit you want to change by moving the D-Pad left
or right and change the desired digit by moving the D-pad up (for a higher
digit) or down (for a lower
e). Any incorrect password will take you to the first match. For a list
passwords, go to the Secrets section of the FAQ.

MENU CONTROLS:
D-Pad: Select choices.
B: Cancel
A: Confirm choice
Start: Same as A, but during the Player Select screen, it will automatically
choose all the players for you.

GAMEPLAY
The goal to every match is to score more points than the other team. Each
match has three periods that last three long minutes. Before each session, each
team gets to choose its players (see Menu Controls above), which will consist
of three main player
and one goalkeeper. On the bottom left or right, you can see your player's
status, which consist of (from up to down): Power, Speed and Omosa (Weight).

After your players are set, the match will begin. The rule is just like real
hockey; shoot the puck on the opposing player's net to earn one point. Here are
the controls:

SKATING: You use the D-Pad to navigate the player throughout the ice field by
moving it up, down, left and right. Tap left or right twice to dash and while
dashing, tap up or down twice to change directions. Press the D-pad on the
opposite direction to
op dashing.

START: Press it to Pause and Un-pause the game during gameplay.

OFFENSE: Press the A button to throw the puck on the air. Press the B button to
make a simple shoot. For a flip pass, hold the A button and you will
automatically throw the puck to the nearest teamate. For a Slap Shoot, do
either:

A) Throw the puck in the air and when the puck is in the highest position, jump
and press either: A or B.
B) Press and hold the B button and then release it.

DEFENSE: Press the A button for a Tripping Up stick attack. Press B for a
shoulder tackle. For a long stick attack, jump (A+B) and then press A. For an
air punch, press B after a jump. Press the A button during a dash for a
rotating stick attack. For th
Jumping Machine Swing, do a dash, then jump and press the A button.

GOALKEEPER CONTROLS: Use the D-pad to move up, down, back and forth in front of
the goal. Press B for high catch and A for a low one. Keep in mind that
goalkeepers CAN catch powershots as long as they pick the one of the correct
height.

SECRET SHOTS
This are done the same way as the Slap Shoot, but they require more timing and
more energy. They can be done by one of the following ways.

Push and hold the B button while holding the puck until you start running out
of energy, This one is the easiest, but it's also the most life-consuming.

* Throw the puck to the air and do a machine swing. This requires seamless
timing and it's a bit tricky to pull off.

* Throw the puck to the air and then hold the D-pad and press any button. This
is more or less the same as above.

* After you pass the puck to another player, when you assume control of that
player, press the A button to swing the stick. This is the most difficult way
to do a power shots.

COSTUMES
Each team has it's own trademarked costumes, which can be use and selected
during the game's scenario mode between matches. Check out the costume section
for status and moves.

PASSWORDS
While I already explained how to input a password, I will now explain when you
get one as well. Between each match. After every match, the school paper will
be shown and issue number is essentially the password. Password can also be
obtained after a g
e over. Since the first team you fight against is very easy and no password is
ever given that takes you to the second match, here is one that will:
2437
Also keep in mind that no new passwords are given after Banba. If you need
passwords that will take you to Shitenouji or Daizetsuzan, check out the
password list at the Secrets section.

PENALTY
If you become too aggressive against the opposing team, one of players will be
throw away to the Penalty Box until the opposing team gets points or when the
period is over.

POWER BAR
The power bar is the bar that is used to do Secret Shots and other kind of
special attacks. Keep in mind that you can lose energy by getting hit by the
opposing team.

ANGER MODE
If a character gets hit several times by the opposing team, he will become
angry as you can see by his pupil-less eyes and spiky hair. When this happen,
the character will be able to do more damage by using his fists and feets to
attack.

=====================================================
COSTUMES DATA
=====================================================

During the course of the Scenario Mode, your team will be able to change it's
default Hockey outfit into one of the defeated team's outfits at the beginning
of each match. Each suit has two status. Kougeki (Attack, the damage delivered
to other teams)
d Shubi (Defense, the damage received from other opponents). Here's a rundown
of all the uniforms.

1. Hockey:
Attack: 16
Defense: 25
Data: Nothing special about this one, but it's the only thing you got at the
beginning. This suit is also used by the Dodge Ball team.

2. Kendou (Fencing)
Attack: 28
Defense: 38
Data: More powerful than the regular hockey suit. Press the B button after a
jump to do the Shock Wave attack, which will sent members of the opposing team
flying. Keep in mind that the Shock Wave attack cost energy. Used by the
Nekketsu High School Ken
u Club.

3. Yakyuu (Baseball)
Attack: 24
Defense: 12
Data: Slightly more powerful in attacking power than the Hockey suit, but more
fragile. The Baseball allows the goalkeeper to counterattack enemy's shots and
the suit's baseball bat allows for better range. Not bad, despite it's low
status. Used by the
kketsu High School Baseball Club.

4. Special 1 (Girls)
Attack: 28
Defense: 63
Data: Yurigaoka's uniform. Other than turning Kunio and the boys into
cross-dressers, this suit also has high defense. A good and cute suit. :)

5. Amefuto (American Football)
Attack: 32
Defense: 50
Data: Hanazono's uniform. In defense mode, you can do headbutts by pressing the
B button and do suplex by pushing the d-pad and pressing the A button at the
opposing player's back. This suit has high attacking power.

6. Roller
Attack: 48
Defense: 19
Data: One of my favorite suit. While it has low defenses, when you're charging
a secret shots, your character will do a rotating stick attack that will make
him invulnerable to enemy's attacks. Used by Tanibana.

7. Special 2
Attack: 30
Defense: 80
Data: The generic hockey suit on steroids. Doesn't have any special attacks,
but has high defense. Won after defeating Shirogane.

8. Special 3
Attack: 45
Defense: 72
Data: Power hockey suit worn by several teams (Shirogane, Banba and
Shitenouji). Has higher attacking power and slightly less defense. More
balanced than the Special 2. Won after defeating Banba.

team) will become this team's new captain and when you control this team, it's
not that bad. Each member has his own Secret Shots that is unique to him and
you'll get to change
e team's uniforms as you progresses. Later in the game, two new members will
join this team: Toyoichi and Hide, who are only playable in Scenario Mode. In
Taisen mode, this team will only get to wear their default uniform.

SECRET SHOTS TYPES
=====================================================
While I already explained how to do one in the Gameplay section of the FAQ,
here I will explain all types of secret shots used by each of the game's
players.

NUT SHOT: Kunio's trademarked move. A straightforward shot that turns the puck
into a fast flying disc that penetrates through the other players.

POWER SHOT: Used by members of the Dodgeball Team. Basically a generic slap
shot that does damage.

DEJECTED SHOT: Used by Youichi. A secret shot that goes into distance and spins
slowly in the ground. If anyone touches this, they will go flying high into the
air.

COMPRESSED SHOT: Used by Hideki. A small and slow secret shot that is capable
of knocking out almost anyone in it's path. Also used by members of Shirogane.

ROTATING SHOT: Used Tsuyoshi. It spins around the goal several times before
flying back and going into the goal. Also used by Tarutani of Daizetsuzan.

ONE-CUSHION SHOT: Used by Masashi. This shot will bounce of the farthest wall
and it will go soaring through the goal.

WARP SHOT: Used by the Baseball team. The puck will go forward, only to
teleport in front of the goalie.

TEDDY BEAR SHOT: Used by the Yurigaoka team. It will turn the puck into a
bouncing teddy bear that will move forward to the goal and knocks the
goalkeeper away with a jump.

UPPER SHOT: Used by Hanazono. A shot that will go flying into the sky only to
be dropped on top of the goalkeeper. It will then fly into the goal.

UPPER SHOT II: Used by Toyoichi (of Nekketsu) and Hanaoka (of Daizetsuzan).
Basically a more effective version of Hanazono's secret shot.

SPINNING SHOT: Used by Tanibana. A fast and powerful secret shot that spins
sideway.

LOW SPIN SHOT: Used by members of Shirogane. Same as Tanibana's secret shot,
only it spins upway instead of sideway.

PENYA PENYA SHOT: Used by Sakurai and Gorou of Banba. Turns the puck into a
giant hawk.

BIG CURVE SHOT: A deceiving secret shot used by Hide (of Nekketsu), Miwa (of
Banba) and Sera (of Daizetsuzan). It looks like a regular slap shot until gets
near the goal, when it turns into a power shot.

REBOUND SHOT: Used by Azume and Aridome of Shitenouji and Akai of Daizetsuzan.
A secret shot that rebounds of the walls several times.

UPPER SHOT III: The most powerful version of the Upper Shot used by Hanazono,
Toyoichi and Hanaoka. Used by Okumura of Shitenouji.

HURRICANE SHOT: A very powerful shot that revolves like a Hurricane. Used by
Tobiyama of Daizetsuzan.
