CREDITS AND GREETINGS -------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- 1. CHARACTERS -------------------------------- 1.1 DESCRIPTIONS -------------------------------- There are a total of 12 characters in the game. You start with 4 of them, later you find the others. Here are the descriptions: _Tenchi_ Young man, fights with wooden sword. He'll be in you party from begining till end, and you'll likely use him most often (after all, this game is called Tenchi Muyo, right? :) He is very strong, has a good defense, moves 3 spaces and does lots of damage, especially in the begining. He doesn't move very often though, and lacks moves that have long range. Still very very useful. _Aeka_ Girl with purple hair in kimono. She's also there from the beginning till the end. She's very useful in the begining, as she gets a healing move at level 2. She has average attack and defense values, moves 3 spaces and does medium damage. She moves rather often (at least in the begining) and has nice range, but since she'll be healing mostly, so she'll take a while to level up. _Ryoko_ Girl with grey spiky hair. Another starter, most useful in the begining. She teleports when she moves, and she floats, meaning you can put her most anywhere on the field. She has some of the best attacks and is also quite strong, but she has a low defense. She moves 3 spaces, 4 when powered up. She moves averagely often. _Mihoshi_ Last of the starters, Mihoshi is a girl with yellow hair. She is the only character whose attacks can miss, but they are powerful and she gets lots of critical hits. She is strong, but like Ryoko she is poor in defense. Her attacks all have huge range, but she moves only 2 spaces, and not very often. She can be extremely effective or not at all, depending on how lucky you are. _Ryo-ohki_ Half cat, half rabbit. He starts very weak, but becomes very strong later. He has a poor defense but attacks well. He moves 4 spaces and jumps, which is the same as teleport. Moves very often. Nice if you manage to level him a few times. _Youkinojou_ A pink robot. Definetly the worst character in the game. Has low hits and defense, moves only 1 space, and his lowest attack takes 4 power points. On the up side, he moves very often, and his attacks do decent damage, but he (or is it she, i'm not sure on this one) still sucks. _Grandpa_ Old man with glasses and mustache. He has the best attack and defense in the game, but you won't be using him much if you're like me. His attacks have very short range, usually only 1 space, and he moves very slowly. He moves 2 spaces. Too bad he moves so slowly, or he'd have been the best character in the game (his power fill move is nice). _Azaka_ Looks like a wooden block with blue markings. Nice, since the attacks do lots of damage, and his defense is high. Moves often too. Moves only 1 space though. Still nice, but you should have better guys (or more likely girls) at hand. _Kimidake_ Same as Azaka, but with red markings. Stats are also much the same, but he does healing moves mostly. Good if you need a healer, otherwise Azaka is a lot better. _Sasami_ Girl with blue hair. Sasami makes a nice support character. She heals well and moves often, unfortunately only 2 spaces (3 when powered up). She is poor in attack, defense and hits though, so be careful. _Washu_ Girl with red hair. Washu is the best support character in my opinion. She can heal, raise attack, she teleports, and has strong attack and defense. She moves 2 spaces (3 when powered up), but not too often. Really nice to have along, but you'll get her rather late in the game. _Mizuki_ Green haired girl. You'll be fighting her for much of the game. She's also great, with huge attack and defense numbers, teleporting 4 spaces and moving often. She'll be the last one you get, and it will take a long time to level her up decently, but it might be worth it. ------------------------------ 1.2 WHERE TO FIND THEM ------------------------------ Here are detailed instructions on how to find the characters in the game. _Tenchi, Aeka, Ryoko, Mihoshi_ They'll be with you from the begining. No need to look (get it? :) _Ryo-ohki_ You'll find him in the garden, fighting some carrots. Never let your mom tell you carrots are good for you again :))) _Youkinojou_ You'll find him the second time you go see Mihoshi's spaceship. _Grandpa_ You find him on the lower left, fighting some monsters. _Azaka, Kimidake_ You'll find them if you go to the spaceship by the upper path. They'll join after the battle. They join you at level 2. (NOTE: I've received a lot of emails from people saying they can't get them. It seems that you have to set a flag somewhere in the game to get them to join. If someone knows exactly what this flag is, let me know. I suggest going to every location on earth before going to the spaceship, this should do it) _Sasami_ You can either go to the spaceship by the lower path and rescue her there (she joins at level 3), or inside the spaceship in the jail (she joins at level 4). _Washu_ Find her on the spaceship, upper right area. She'll join you before the fight (at level 4). _Mitzuki_ She joins after the boss fight in the spaceship. Starts at level 1 :((( ------------------------------- 1.3 MOVES AND EFFECTS OF MOVES ------------------------------- First some notes. There are 4 basic attack moves that determine who can or can't be hit. Here is a description. - (in the game a straight arrow from left to right) these are projectile attacks. They only hit if both the character and the targer are on the ground, and there is no obstacle between them. They do a lot of damage \ (in the game a curved arrow going up then down) these are arc attacks. They also hit only in a straight line, but ignore any obstacles. | (in the game a filled arroy pointing down) these are area attacks. They can hit enemies who are not in a straight line from you. ALL (in the game ALL) these attacks hit all enemies within the radius. This includes diagonals. Also, attacks collored green are healing or status raising moves, and don't damage enemies. There are 4 different green attacks. HEAL - these attacks heal hitpoints. Amount healed depends on level and attack power. P-UP - these attacks raise attack power by half + 1 point of the current attack power. Very effective at high levels. ?-UP - these are attacks that Sasami uses. I'm not sure what exactly they do, but I think they either raise speed od cause less damage from enemies. Not very useful either way. FULL - this is an attack by Grandpa. If he uses it he fills his power to the max (8 power points). Can't use it on others :( Finaly, you will gain an attack for each level you gain. Maximum level for all characters is 8. Youkinojou, Azaka and Kimidake only have a total of 3 attacks, as they can't power up, so they gain their final attack at level 4. Mitzuki also can't power up, but since she is no machine she gets 4 normal attacks, the final at level 6. The power up attacks are gained at levels 3 (first level when you can actually power up), 5, 7 and 8. In the powered up state, you do not restore power points each round. Ok, so now finaly, the moves. If you want to know what the signs mean, look a little higher in this faq. Oh yeah, first number is range, second is power points used to do the attack. Also, Washu's level 3 attack drains hits from enemies, so it also heals Washu. -------------------------------------------------------------------------| Lv. GAME COMMANDS ------------------------------ 2.1 GAME SCREEN ------------------------------ The game screen is where you move around different locations and save your game. A little Aeka will appear at your location, and Kimidake will be in locations you can move to. The first command will let you save your game, the second is used to move on without saving. After that, you choose where you want to go next. ------------------------------ 2.2 SELECT SCREEN ------------------------------ The select screen is where you choose who will fight in the next battle. You can select up to 4 characters. Depending on the order you put them in they will appear on the battle screen. I suggest you put characters who can teleport in the back, so they can move past other characters if they are blocking them. If you want to fight with less then 4 characters, press A again when over the picture of the person you selected last. This is nice since you will mostly use only a few characters, since they gain levels quicker this way as they get more kills. Nevertheless use at least 2 characters in battle and I would suggest that at least one of them can heal. ------------------------------ 2.3 BATTLE WINDOW ------------------------------ The battle window is where you'll be spending most of the time in the game as the story also develops there. Since the game is simple and most of the things are easy to figure out just a few notes. In the upper right you'll see the stats for the character you currenty control, namely attack power, defense power and hitpoints. If you want a more detailed description, go to the status screen by pressing SELECT when a character can move. If you press A, you will find the command menu on the left. Here you select what you want the character to do. If you want to undo your selection just push B. After you finish giving orders to a character (either by having them attack or doing nothing) you can no longer undo and will move to the next character. In the first round your characters will move in the order you placed them in the select screen, then they move depending on their speed. Every round characters gain 2 power points unless they are powered up. When powered up they gain no power points. ------------------------------ 2.4 COMMANDS ------------------------------ These are the commands you can use on the battle screen: -------------- -------------- -------------- | MOVE | | MOVE | | ATTACK | | ATTACK | | ATTACK | | BACK | | DO NOTHING | | POWER U/D | | DO NOTHING | | | | DO NOTHING | | | -------------- -------------- -------------- normal commands when you have 8 PP after moving before moving (if you can P-UP) or are powered up MOVE - you can move a character as many spaces as he can. Some can only move 1 space, while others can move as many as 5. ATTACK - use one of the characters attacks. If you have too few P. points, some attacks will be grayed out. Also, to use the attack the enemy or ally must be in the line of attack for that move. DO NOTHING - ends the turn for the character. BACK - moves the character back to before moving. You can choose again from the begining. POWER U/D - if a character can power up, and has all 8 power points, you can power him or her up. When powered up they no longer gain any power points, they get different attacks, their attack and defense are raised slighlty and some gain more movement. When you use up all 8 power points you revert to normal, or you can use the command again. When powering up or down, you will loose one turn, but not if you run out of power points. You can only power up or down at the begining of the turn. If you move you cannot power up that turn. ----------------------------------- 3. WALKTHROUGH ----------------------------------- I won't be going into the story in this walkthrough, just point out the basic direction you ought to be heading in. Just a quick word on leveling. In this game you gain levels by getting kills. The number of kills gets higher for each level. To get to the next level, you need as many kills as the number of the next level; to get from level 1 to 2, you need 2 kills, from 2 to 3 you need 3, from 3 to 4 you need 4 and so on and so on... So be sure to finish the enemies with the character you wish to level. As you gain a level you will get full hitpoints, so keep this in mind. If you wait in battles, more enemies will appear. They only appear once you have killed at least one of the enemies, since there will never be more than 4 of them on the screen at once. This is actually nice, since you will get more kills this way in a shorter time. Enemies generaly respawn about every two turns. Also enemies seem to generally attack your strongest character, so you want to keep someone with healing nearby. OK, now let's get to the walkthrough! ----------------------------------- 3.1 MAZAKI HOUSE ----------------------------------- The first battle isn't tough, so you should use it to level Aeka, since she will get a healing move at level 2, which you will need badly early on. For the other character, you should level Mihoshi or/and Ryoko. Tenchi can wait since he is very strong already. Next comes another battle. You can win easily by simply hitting Mizuki once or you can gain some more levels, which I recomend. Level up the rest to 2, and if possible raise Ryoko or Mihoshi to 3, to gain defense. Once you hit Mizuki you can explore outside. Next you can choose 3 paths, all of which will gain you another character. Going up to the garden will get you Ryo-ohki, going down will get you Grandpa, and going to the middle twice will get you Yokinojou (if you even want that piece of junk). Anyway, collect whom you want. The carots seem easiest since they have low hp, but they move fast and attack from 3 spaces away, so you should level up your weaker guys in the middle at Mihoshi's spaceship. The red guys there pack a punch, but move very slowly, so they aren't much of a problem. The bottom offeres blue guys, who will be your hardest opponents so far. They don't move at all, but can attack 2 spaces away, do quite some damage, plus projectile attacks don't work on them. I would suggest leveling all the guys you want to use to at least level 3 here, preferably to level 4, but it might become tedius. Ok, next, you get to choose which way you will take to the spaceship. If you want Azaka and Kimidake go up (READ THE SECTION ON HOW TO GET THE CHARACTERS!) It's shorter and the enemies are easier (except the final battle which can be a pain if you're not at least level 4 by now). If not, go down. Some funny scenes here, but it is longer and the enemies are tougher. You get Sasami sooner this way, but miss Azaka and Kimidake. If you want some advice, go up, as Azaka and Kimidake are nice in this part of the game (plus you REALLY want to gather all the characters, right? :))) The enemies for this part are mostly birds. The grey ones are harmless, but the red ones pack a mean punch, so beware. The final upper battle features red birds and golden yeti-type creatures, neither of which are easy. Still, if you're at least at level 4 you shouldn't have much of a problem (besides, if you haven't figured it out by now, the battles are extremely easy, at least for now). The final bottom battle features two kinds of robots, both not too tough. Well, time to explore the spaceship. ----------------------------------- 3.2 SPACESHIP ----------------------------------- Ok, so you're in now. The enemies here are a bit tougher, but you're not in serious problems if you're reasonably leveled. Here you'll want to find Washu and Sasami, who will be your best support characters for the rest of the game. You can preety much forget Aeka for healing now, those two do it a lot better. Washu is in the upper right jail. The enemies there are quite tough actually. Get rid of the flying buggers first, as they pack a mean punch. The scorpions are incredibly armored, but their attack is almost nonexistent. Did someone say "Level up"? :) Just a quick note, if you come back here later, Washu won't fight in the battle. It still is a nice place to gain some levels. Sasami is being kept in the other jail (dark place, in the middle of the screen. Well, by now you should have encoutered those green robots, right? They are about the toughest opponents at this stage, so once you can beat them with 2 punches easily, you are ready to go on. Or, if you like a challenge, go on as soon as you get those two. You'll want to go to the upper right. There, Mizaki challenges Ryoko, and they'll fight one on one. Should be an easy one, as Ryoko is at least level 5 by now. Once you win Mizaki runs away, only to be beaten up by her boss, Kusumi. Kusumi kidnaps Ryoko, then you get your first boss fight. This part is tricky if you don't know what you're doing, as she's much tougher than anything you've seen so far. To win you need to defeat the middle section. If you go at her with an all out attack, you'll loose fast. The sides throw fire at you if you are in front of them, and he middle will throw a ball that hits anywhere if close enough. There are two ways of beating her. First the easy way; level up until you are at a high level. Then wait before charging her untill you have full power points. You will need to hit her a few ALL attacks, to defeat her, so you'll need Sasami and Ryo-ohki at level 7 and 5 at least. When ready, rush her, pull off your attacks when in range and heal any who got hurt. At your high levels, you won't be hurting much anyway. She'll go down after 2 or 3 attacks. Ok, now the hard way. Obviusly, if you go at her all at once you'll get killed. So first, wait untill you have full power and if Washu is there raise the attack of your attackers. In this fight you'll need someone with high hits, attack and defense, two people who can heal and one guy that can attack from at least 3 spaces away. I would suggest Tenchi or Grandpa, Washu, Aeka or Sasami (whoever is at a higher level), and Mihoshi. Now you will make a line and attack, first in line Tenchi or Grandpa, who will get in close and attack the middle (Grandpa might be better if he is at a high level, since he can refill his power quickly), next in line a healer (Aeka or Sasami), next Mihoshi and finaly Washu, who'll be worn out after raising attack. You need to raise the first and third guy in the row, since they will do most of the attacking. What you do is, you attack with the first guy, heal with the second (or attack if possible, but I doubt it you'll have the time), attack with the third guy by range and have the last as a backup healer. Since you are standind in a line, you'll only be attacked once per turn, so you should be able to heal the damage. Don't move left of right as you'll get fried by the flames. It will be a long fight but you should make it. After the fight Mizuki joins you. She's a great character, but starts at level 1. Anyway, you now need to follow Kusumi to her base on the moon. You will be using Ryo-ohki to get there, so you can't use him in the next part. ---------------------------------- 3.3 RYO-OHKI ---------------------------------- Not much going on in this part except battles. First you'll need to split your guys into two groups of 4 (or less). You'll fight several battles and you can't change characters between battles, so choose wisely. If you want to level up Mizuki, put her in the first group, since the fights are a bit easier there. You should be able to level her to level 6 if you let her get all the kills, at which point she should be really strong. Anyway, be sure that you have at least one person who can heal in each group, and level only the guys you are planing on using in the final parts. I'd use Tenchi, Washu, Mihoshi and Sasami, but it really depends only on your preferences. Anyway, after some lenghty battles you arrive on the moon. One final fight and this part is finished. By now you should have picked out your main characters, since the final monsters are tough if you are not at level 6 at least. --------------------------------- 3.4 MOON --------------------------------- Another short part in the story. You have only 3 places you can go, so just go to the far right. You meet Kusumi again, and you have to fight her again only this time she is a bit tougher. Use the same strategy against her as the first time you fought her, and you should win easily. Next you find Ryoko, but she attacks you and is joined by clones of Ryoko. This is a tricky fight, since you may not hit the real Ryoko and the clones are quite tough. The real Ryoko is the one in pink. Still, watch your targeting. She joins you after the fight. Kusumi gets pissed and transports you. You are now in the final part of the game. -------------------------------- 3.5 FINAL -------------------------------- Now is the time to use your best characters, preferably the ones who can attack multiple enemies. The best ones would be Ryoko and Ryo-ohki, but they may not be at high enough levels at this time, since you couldn't use them for a while. As a rule, anyone you use here should be at least level 6 as the monsters are really tough. You fight several fights (at least this time you can switch between fights), then you fight Kusumi again. This time she is a lot tougher, since it is harder to use the row tactic, as she can fire a beam that hits everyone in the row close enough. At this point you are strong enough to spread your guys around and use strong attacks that damage all. Again, after you defeat the middle part you win. Ok, so now you have to fight her again. This is the final and toughest fight in the game. You fight Kusumi and 3 clones of Mizuki. Luckily Kusumi doesn't move around since she hits for huge damage and has huge range. If you want to live a while longer, wait for the Mizuki clones to advance and kill them off. Now heal and power up. Then rush Kusumi hitting her with the strongest attacks. After a few solid hits she is defeated and you have won the game. Easy, wasn't it? ------------------------------- 4. MINOR NOTES ------------------------------- I haven't bothered finding out all the secrets of the game, but you might want to try the following things to see what happens. Besides, the game is so easy you might like a challenge. - Go to the spaceship without picking up Ryo-ohki - Get any of your characters killed in the last battle - Go to the boss fight in the spaceship without picking up Washu or Sasami - Find out exactly what that darn move Sasami does really does - Try to level up past level 8 :) If you want to see the bad ending, simply loose any of the battles or hit the real Ryoko in the battle with the clones. ------------------------------ 5. CREDITS AND GREETINGS ------------------------------ Not many thanks really, only thanks to sailor mimic for not bothering to finish that FAQ so long I actually had to make my own :) That's it. You're done. So go play.
