0 Introduction

0.1 A word from the author

Star Trek:Klingon is one of those "click your own adventure"
games that Paramount/Viacom loved to put out. They have good
writing, all the production values of regular Star Trek episodes,
but they are just too SHORT!

This is a FAQ, NOT a manual. You won't learn how to play the game
with this document, and I'm NOT about to add it to ease the life
of software pirates.

This USG only covers the North American PC version since that's
the only version that I have.

Some of you may recognize my name as the editor for the XCOM and
XCOM2: TFTD FAQ's, among others.

There is no warranty for this unofficial strategy guide. After
all, it depends on YOU the player. All I can do is offer some
advice.

you find an question about this game that is not covered in the
USG, e-mail it to me at ksc1@aol.com. I'll try to answer it and
include it in the next update.

0.5 The Author

I am just a game player who decided to write my own FAQs when the
ones I find don't cover what I want to see. Lots of people like
what I did, so I kept doing it.

Previously, I've written Unofficial Strategy Guides (USGs) for
XCOM, XCOM2:TFTD, Wing Commander, Wing Commander 3, Wing
Commander 4, Fade to Black, Spycraft, 688(I) Hunter/Killer.
Mechwarrior 3, MW3 Expansion Pack, Need for Speed: Porsche
Unleashed, Mechwarrior 4, and a few others.

You can find some of them on my KC Game Nexus website at
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Alley/6275

If you need to write me, send e-mail to ksc1@aol.com. Be warned
that if you don't include at least the game title in your message
I would have NO IDEA what you're talking about.

1 Game Information

1.1 What is Star Trek: Klingon

Star Trek: Klingon is a very simple adventure game based on the
Klingons of Star Trek, mainly TNG/DS9 era. It is essentially a
holodeck adventure starring you, playing a young Klingon Pok, and
Gowron, who will offer you a lot of assistance.

The adventure is played out with a series of video clips with
occasional decision points where you must click somewhere on the
screen to make a choice (or not, it's your decision).

1.2 Game Requirements

From the box:

  * Windows 3.1, Windows 95, or higher operating system.
  *    486/66 or better processor.
  *    2x CD-ROM drive or faster.
  *    Color SVGA Monitor
  * 100% Sound Blaster compatible sound card
  * Optional voice recognition requires 100% SB16 compatible
       sound card and microphone

The optional voice recognition is for the language lab, not the
"holodeck" Immersion Study (i.e. the adventure game)

1.3 Good things about the game

Excellent production value, everything is authentic Klingon

Several chances to retry the decision points

Very simple interface (just point and click)

1.4 Bad things about the game

Graphics are grainy, as this was designed to run on 486/66

Extremely short, you can finish the game in an hour

Just make a few decisions here and there, little challenge

One really dumb puzzle with almost no clues

1.5 Related Games

Star Trek: Klingon was followed by Star Trek: Borg, where you
play a Starfleet cadet given a chance by Q to go back in time and
save your parents at the battle of Wolf 359, with somewhat more
complex gameplay.

1.6 Author's Note

Remember what Gowron said: "Act and you shall have dinner,
hesitate and you shall BE dinner." You only have maybe 3 seconds
to make your decision.

If you want to FULL story, you can always buy the novel. Check
the official website of Star Trek books.

2 Game Walkthrough

So, you want to be a Klingon... Or at least pretend to be one.
You are Pok, House of SepIch (pronounced se-pish). Your father is
Torghn (pronounced tor-gan). Your family is about to celebrate
your "rites of ascension".

Decision point 1: Gowron arrives with gifts for your house.

Your choices: click on gifts to accept (correct), or do nothing.

Reason: To refuse a gift is to insult the giver, esp. when the
giver is Gowron, leader of Klingon High Council!

Your neighbor, Vok, ancient enemy of your house, then arrives.
Your mother, K'Tar, was not very happy about it, but Vok did
mention the ancient rights of hospitality.

Decision point 2: Your mother wants you to do something about
Vok.

Your choices: click on Vok to push him out, or do nothing
(correct)

Reason: Vok is right, hospitality must be observed.

After a bit of running back and forth, your father told you to
get some gaGh from the table.

Decision point 3: you're at the table and there are four types of
food to pick from.

Your choices: click on one of the four bowls on the table.
(Choose lower right, the worm-looking stuff)

Reason: In case you didn't read the Klingon culture reference,
gaGh is live worms, a Klingon delicacy.

After a bit of Klingon opera, you get to open the gifts. First
gift is pretty, so is the second gift... Then a strange rod rose
out of the box... A Romulan assassin probe! It's seeking...
seeking... Gowron already yelled "no one move!"

Decision point 4: Do you try to grab the assassin probe or divert
it somehow?

Your choices: click on the probe, or do nothing (correct)

Reason: Gowron did state no one moves. The probe will kill you if
you do.

The probe aimed for Gowron, but Torghn took the probe instead...
Your father... dead... And he did not even see the eyes of his
killer... It is NOT the Klingon way to die... But it is up to you
to administer final rites...

Decision point 5: do you know what to do?

Your choices: click on the dead man's eyes (correct), do nothing

Reason: the "Klingon Death Scream" is a ritual, warning the
heavens that a warrior is coming. Read your Klingon lore!

Gowron swears blood oath to find the killer of Torghn, and
he needs a family member to go with him.

Decision point 6: do you join him?

Your choices: click on the DakTagh (correct), do nothing

Reason: as son of Torghn, it is your duty to avenge your father

You will join Gowron on the quest, but first you must complete
your rites of ascension... The chamber is prepared, and the group
has gathered...

Decision point 7: do you go forward?

Your choices: click in the middle of the group of warriors
(correct), or do nothing

Reason: Without rites of ascension, you are not a man...

Your last chance to quit is here. Do you join Gowron on his
quest? Or stay home with your mother?

Decision point 8: Go or no go?

Your choices: click on Gowron's right hand (correct), or his left
hand

Reason: you already swore the blood oath!

Now that you're on the Bird of Prey's bridge, Gowron tell you to
"stay here".

Decision point 9: Another bridge officer told you to help him
with something.

Your choices: click on the board to help, or do nothing (correct)

Reason: Gowron told you to stay still!

Gowron instruct you to take a station on the bridge. You have
already watched another officer take the station from the old
Klingon.

Decision point 10: Who do you go after?

Your choices: click on one of the officers on the bridge, or the
old Klingon moving past Gowron (correct)

Reason: you know he can be beat.

In the mess hall, the Klingons are playing dice... And you're
invited.

Decision point 11: The dice has been thrown. Which hand?

Your choices: his right hand (correct), or his left hand

Reason: you're watched him play, he ALWAYS use right hand.

Now you'll get some food... You observed the old guy retreat, but
another guy takes stuff straight from your plate.

Decision point 12: Retaliate? Or be a wimp?

Your choices: click on the Klingon to punch him (correct), or do
nothing

Reason: Klingons value strength and competence. If you aren't
going to defend your own food, what good are you?

So you lost the fight, but gained respect, which is not bad.

Now it's time to visit the bar. NOTE: PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION TO
THE KLINGON OPERA. It was sung at the beginning, it was sung
here, so it must have some meaning later on.

It's time for "Klingon appreciation"... Choose an item to break,
and pay for it.

Decision point 13: Which one do you choose?

Your choices: cup, chair (correct)

Reason: cup was too cheap

Gowron explains the three different drinks he got, one of them is
really nasty... Poisonous to non-Klingons. When Gowron figures
that the bartender is the guy... It's time to interrogate, and
the interrogator needs a weapon.

Decision point 14: Which weapon for interrogation?

Your choices: the cup of that poisonous stuff (correct), DakTagH

Reason: the drink is more frightening

The bartender gives you a hint... Chase down a Pakled vessel.

NOTE: Did you see which guard was close to the female musician?

NOTE: Save the game now, as this next sequence is difficult.

You have watched the previous guy "raise shields, disengage
cloak, and engage tractor beam". You found the Pakled vessel and
after a bit of humorous exchange between Gowron and the Pakled
captain, you get to take over a station.

You need to drop the shields and disengage tractor beam.

Decision Point 15: Do you remember which is which?

Choices: the entire panel (proper sequence is lower left, then
upper mid-right (the panel JUST LEFT the upper right panel)

Reason: I'll just show you the whole board... (use courier font
to make this chart line up correctly!)

------------------------------
\ CLOAK \ general /TRAC/DISR/
 \-------\ /---------/
  \SHIELDS\ / /
   +-------+---+---------+

TRAC = tractor beam, DISR = disruptors

You have to quickly click on shields, then tractor beam. If you
clicked slightly off, you will FAIL.

You figured out the bartender tricked you, and there's a traitor
in your midst.

Decision point 16: who's the traitor?

Choices: the three guards (click on the one on the left)

Reason: you did notice before that he was a bit chummy with the
musician, right?

So Gowron found the traitor... And Mesca, the bartender send you
all on a wild goose chase. Mesca must pay!

After being tricked again, Mesca and Allira are dead, and you
have a bomb onboard. Do you know the sequence?

Decision point 17: punch in the disarm code

Choices: you have five buttons to punch. Punch the wrong one and
it goes poof. (correct sequence is GREEN [leftmost], BLUE, BLUE,
BLUE, YELLOW)

Reason: the five notes are the beginning of that Klingon opera
you've been hearing over and over

Now you've come home... Allira said who contracted them came from
Tanganika, and is an ancient house... Do you know who ordered
your father's death yet?

Decision point 18: who do you suspect?

Choices: Your uncle Qua'lon (correct), your mother K'tar,
Gowron... etc.

Reason: he's the one who stood to gain the most by your father's
death... If you also die.

You have made your accusation, and he has replied with the
challenge of denial. You must decide the outcome by combat...

Decision point 19: what weapon will you choose?

Choices: Bat'leth (correct), or DakTagH

Reason: come on... How do you fight a Bat'leth with a little
dagger like DakTagH?

You have defeated your uncle, the traitor to family, and killed
him. You have passed the test. Gowron is pleased. Enjoy the
ending!

You can go back to try the different choices, or try the language
lab to see if you really want to learn to SPEAK Klingon.
