0 Introduction

0.1 A word from the author

A quick browse through the gamefaq.com shows that there is no FAQ
available for this arcade racer, so here's my version.

This is a FAQ, NOT a manual. You won't learn how to play the game
with this document, and I'm NOT about to add it to ease the life
of software pirates.

This USG only covers the PC version since that's the only version
that I have.

Some of you may recognize my name as the editor for the XCOM and
XCOM2: TFTD FAQ's, among others.

0.3 Voluntary Contribution

Gamers who read this guide are under NO obligation to send me ANY
compensation.

However, a VOLUNTARY contribution of one (1) US Dollar would be
very appreciated.

If you choose to do so, please make your US$1.00 check or $1.00

For the record, out of ALL the FAQs I wrote (45 at least count),
I've received exactly 14 dollars, and 3 sets of stamps, as of
latest release of this guide. So I'm NOT making any money off
these guides, folks.

0.4 How and when to contact me

PLEASE let me know if there's a confusing or missing remark,
mistakes, and thereof... If you find a question about this game
that is not covered in the USG, e-mail it to me at the address
specified below. I'll try to answer it and include it in the
next update.

Please do NOT write me for technical support. I do NOT work for a
game company and thus I do NOT provide support.

Please do NOT ask me to send you a list of controls, the manual,
etc. If you borrowed the game without borrowing the manual, curse
at your own stupidity. If you bought the game without a manual,
please blame your own stupidity as well. If you copied the game
without copying the manual, you're scum in my book.

Please do NOT ask me to answer questions that had already been
answered in this guide. It makes you look REALLY idiotic.

I will NOT answer stupid questions like the ones above unless I'm
in a really good mood. If you send questions like that, do NOT
expect a reply.

The address below is spelled out phonetically so spammers can't
use spambots on it:

Kilo-Sierra-Charlie-Hotel-Alpha-November-Golf-Seven-Seven AT
Yankee-Alpha-Hotel-Oscar-Oscar DOT Charlie-Oscar-Mike

To decipher this, simply read the first letter off each word
except for the numbers and the punctuation. This is "military
phonetics" or "aeronautical phonetics" in case you're wondering.

This document was produced on Microsoft Word 97. Some editing was
done with Editpad (editpadclassic.com).

XCOM, XCOM2:TFTD, Wing Commander, Wing Commander 2, Wing
Commander 3, Wing Commander 4, Privateer, Spycraft, 688(I)

1 Game Information

This section contains the general game information.

1.1 Game Information

Boss Rally is an arcade racer where you race various courses
against various AI opponents in various conditions with various
cars... Ba-humbug. It supports LAN play, but no Internet play.

It has a total of six courses, each can be raced mirrored, for 12
courses.

Each course can be raced in multiple conditions, including sunny,
rain, fog, snow, and night.

As you win, you unlock better cars, and you'll need them as the
AI gets tougher.

Only quick race is available in multiplayer

1.4 Author's review of the title

Boss Rally is a pretty lousy racer, even when you take into
account that it's a 1999 title.

First of all, initially only two cars are available, and both are
lousy. You can't unlock any more unless you beat at least one
season of the championship, and there are plenty more to go.

Second, the cars don't seem to go straight. While sliding around
corners is fun, you get tired after a while with all that wrist
bending.

Third, the championship is a joke. What happens is you are left
at 20th place. In 3 laps, pass as many cars as you can. If you
make it all the way to first place, you get 9 pts. 2nd place 6
pts, and so on. When you get to 6th place, you get no pts. and
there on down. To pass the first championship, you must score at
least 10 pts. For the second championship, 15 pts, and so on.
This is NOT racing!

Fourth, the AI cheats like crazy. In Quick race, if you left the
AI behind by a big margin, it will suddenly start driving like
superman. For example, if you managed to get 7 seconds ahead of
it, it will suddenly drive extremely fast and makes NO mistakes.
So when you reach the next checkpoint, the margin is suddenly
down to 2 seconds, then 5 seconds later it overtakes you, then it
slows down and you can pass it again. This is NOT funny!

Fifth, when the AI doesn't cheat, it STILL acts of it's cheating.
AI cars can take corners MUCH faster than you're able to. While
you slide to the outside, the AI cars will do PERFECT turns,
while speeding AWAY from you!

Sixth, while most cars in championship mode are just there to be
passed, there are some cars that just will fight you tooth and
nail!

Seventh, all the interesting cars and tracks are locked at
beginning, making progression nearly impossible!

I've played a TON of driving games, and this ranks near the
bottom. It's nearly impossible, there's no difficulty rating, and
you get NO information about the cars or the course.

If you want a rating, I'd give this one a 2 (out of 10).

2 The Cars

Here is a list of all the cars (including the "cheat" cars)

4WD ES Ford Escort RS?

4WD LD Lada?

4WD IP Subaru Impreza?

4WD CE Toyota Celica?

4WD RS Mitsubishi Lancer Evo?

4WD NS Skoda?

RWD M3 BMW M3?

RWD SP ??? (racer with GT wing?)

RWD HM Helmet Car?

RWD MT Ice Cream Truck?

RWD CU Cube?

RWD BB Beach Balls?

4WD PJ Mitsubishi Pajero?

RWD TR Ford F-150 Racing Truck?

FWD MN Mini Cooper?

3 Courses

Here's a list of the courses

3.1 Coastline

This course is all tarmac, quite fast, one shortcut, one
alternate path.

When you approach the first tunnel, take the road to the right
instead. You can take that faster and beat the cars in the
tunnel.

There's a shortcut when you come to the beach. Cut straight
across the beach should gain you a couple seconds.

3.2 Jungle

The jungle course is either dry mud or wet mud. There's a
shortcut near the beginning. As you make a left, there's a tunnel
to your right. If you make it inside, you should gain several
seconds on your opponents.

Do NOT cut across the water in the final S-turns. That slows you
down to 55 mph compared to 80-90 mph on the mud path.

3.3 Desert

This course is mostly sand and dirt, with occasional bits of
asphalt, and lots of jumps.

No shortcut was found yet.

3.4 Mountain

This course is mainly asphalt

No shortcut was found yet.

3.5 Strip Mine

The strip mine has sand, dirt, and asphalt, and road is quite
narrow.

No shortcut was found yet

3.6 Raceway

Raceway is all asphalt with sand on the side, and a LOT of sharp
turns.

No shortcut was found yet.

4 Championship

The championship is separated over multiple "seasons". The points
are given as follows:

First place: 9 pts

Second place: 6 pts

Third place: 4? pts

Fourth place 2 pts

Fifth place: 1 pt

Sixth and lower: nothing

4.1 First season

You must score 10 points over 2 races

Race 1: Coastline / normal / normal

Race 2: Jungle / normal / normal

If you win first season, you unlock 4WD IP, and 4WD CE, as well
as the Desert course.

4.2 Second Season

You must score 15 points over 3 races

Race 1: Desert / normal / normal

Race 2: Coastline / normal / normal

Race 3: Jungle / normal / rain

If you win second season, you unlock ??????

4.3 Third Season??

You must score 20? points over 4? races?

??

I can't win second season no matter what. And it wasn't from lack
of trying.

5 Cheats

There are no known cheats for this game.

There is a file you can download from about.com's Video Game
section for this game. Installing that file will give you access
to all tracks and all vehicles. You will have to reconfigure the
controls and other options though.
